QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Parents should partner with the school to make decisions that affect the students.

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

This is what separates us from other countries.

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Strongly Disagree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Local funding should support our schools starting at k-5.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

It's a right given to us by our Creator and spelled out in the Constitution.

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

The function of the local school board is to represent the constituents that voted the Trustee into office. They are the "gatekeepers" to what the schools are allowed to do and how taxpayer money is spent. The superintendent reports to the Trustees and if he or she is not representing the values of the community with decisions he makes then it's the trustee's responsibility to keep him in check or find a superintendent who will.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The Trustees should hire people who represent the values of the community in administration and therefore they will choose curriculum that mirrors the community.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents should be an important part of the education process of their children. They should partner with the school district to educate their children which includes having the freedom to speak at school board meetings. They should NEVER be restricted to speak at a school board meeting.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

The first group that should be a priority is: Mathematics, Science, American History, Language Arts and Physical Fitness. The second group of priority subjects should be: Foreign Language, Art & Music, Personal Finance, Information Technology and Vocational Learning. The last group should not be included in any school curriculum: Social Emotional Learning, Political Activism, Gender Identity, and Critical Race Theory.

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

LIberty and Equality. LIberty however is not the ability to have the freedom to do whatever one wants. There is responsibility with Liberty. Equality is not actually being fair. Not everyone needs the same things but equaltiy says they do.

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

Equality simply means everyone is treated the same exact way, regardless of need or any other individual difference. Equity on the other hand means everyone is provided with what they need to succeed. A child in one part of the country may need different education protocols than a child somewhere else.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Strongly Agree

This is a family subject and just because your family may not discuss this doesn't mean the families that are should be discriminated against and their views taken away.

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

ABSOLUTELY !

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Strongly Agree

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

No

That's called PORN!

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I believe Jesus died on the Cross and rose again on the third day and the only way to salvation is to believe in this. No amount of good works can award you salvation, only the grace of Our Lord.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

This is insanity!

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

God gave those children to the parents to be responsible for and raise, not the school!

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

The parents are responsible and it's different with every child. It's not a onetime discussion, it's an ongoing disucssion while they are being raised.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

I don't believe it should be taught in school.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

YES!

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

You can't go to the dr, board a plane, cash a check, get paid for recycling, and the list goes on. You should have to show a picture ID to do the most sacred of practices, VOTING!

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

NO

A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Agree

Future decisions are based on past actions.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Facebook-BJ Nelson for VISD District 3 Trustee

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Humility and Service are at the heart of any candidate worth anything! I pray every morning when my feet hit the floor that I will exemplify these qualities and that my service will not be about me but the people I represent and how I can provide a better quality of life for them and for their families!

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Agree

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

There are vaccinations that are the dead vaccine and that have helped eradicate diseases throughout our world. When vaccines became about making money and not taking care of patients that's when trouble began.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.

Strongly Agree

All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.
