QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Pregnancy is personal, not political. The Women of Wyoming are capable of making their own healthcare decisions without government overreach.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Neutral

Pregnancy is personal, not political. The Women of Wyoming can make their own healthcare decisions without government overreach. Chemical abortions are routinely used to terminate planned pregnancies that have failed to miscarry on their own. Efforts to ban these medical options harm women and put their health at risk. Furthermore, the only thing that could make a pregnancy loss like this worse would be having to report it to the government.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Choose not to answer

The Hyde Amendment has prohibited federal funds from being used for elective abortions for almost 50 years.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Neutral

End-of-life decisions are incredibly complicated.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Hardworking families deserve livable wages.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

I can think of no circumstances when a government should close churches. That would be an insult to the foundations of our freedoms.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

If a business seeks to serve the public, it should not exclude the public. If an entity wishes to exclude portions of the public, it can do so by organizing as a church-based non-profit entity and doing as it wishes.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

Reasonable access to healthcare is vital to a community's economic and social stability. Private healthcare options are essential to the equation, but those who wish to purchase a plan through the government marketplace should be able to do so, and subsidies for those with lower incomes are appropriate because it ensures hardworking families have reasonable access to healthcare.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

While such mandates raise interesting questions about civil liberties, vaccine requirements have been held up by courts since the early 1900s. I believe that the process for exclusions for those with deeply held beliefs or medical reasons suffices.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Choose not to answer

I am not an expert in foreign affairs or national security, nor do I seek office with powers over these issues. I will give it my fullest attention if and when such problems intersect with the Wyoming state government.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

The United States' relationship with Israel is important. I am not seeking an office with powers of international affairs.

IMMIGRATION

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

People who seek a better life should be allowed to immigrate to the US.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Disagree

Parents already have the freedom to educate their children as they see fit. Taxpayer funding of private education is problematic and will have unintended consequences. Public education is foundational to the American experience and must educate a diverse community. If a parent does not want their child educated in a diverse community, they have other options. Those options should be privately funded.

VALUES

Children have the right to be protected from sexually explicit materials in publicly funded libraries, including school libraries.

Neutral

Children are already protected from sexually explicit materials in libraries. Educators and librarians are professionals who curate age-appropriate materials for a diverse community. Material with age-appropriate sexual content has always been present in literature, non-fiction, and reference materials. Dishonest political groups use misleading information about the nature of books to vilify educators and public education.

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from harm, including from gender ideology and bodily mutilation.

Neutral

Children are indeed members of society who will turn into adults who can pursue their happiness freely. Bodily mutilation is being used as a political device to spread misinformation about the nature of medical treatment for children. In Wyoming, no surgical procedures are happening to address gender issues in minors. I ask that all decent people remind themselves that political discussions about the genitals of children are not appropriate.

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.

Agree

Parents already have the right to make decisions for their minor children. As the parent of three minor children, my husband and I make decisions on their behalf daily.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Choose not to answer

The pursuit of happiness applies to all Americans, even those pursuits we do not fully understand.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Disagree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred, and legal union of one man and one woman if that is what one believes. Not all faiths define marriage so narrowly. Separately, marriage is a legal contract between two individuals. The government can define legal concepts as needed. The government can not determine how a particular faith permits marriages to occur within that faith.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a descendant of the pilgrim Robert Cushman, who arranged for the Mayflower to deliver his fellow pilgrims from exile in the Netherlands to a land where they could practice their faith without government oversight. In 1621, Cushman delivered the first recorded sermon at Plymouth Colony. My beliefs and values are rooted in this DNA and belong to me, an American with religious freedom.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

Obtaining an ID requires time and resources that many do not have. If proponents of voter ID were willing to address these barriers, I would be more agreeable. As it stands now, it feels as though this requirement is designed to suppress, not protect, the vote. Our ballots are legal affidavits, and submitting a fraudulent ballot is a crime. Our County Clerks do an excellent job ensuring each voter is eligible and adequately registered during the election process.

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

Agree

Giving the compact a general overview, I am inclined to say I agree with it. Our current system incentivizes presidential campaigns to focus only on a handful of states. Along with many, I find it frustrating that candidates can lose the popular vote by a large number and still win elections. I would want to consider possible negative consequences as well, especially in light of Wyoming's low population and rural nature.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Racism is a threat to decency and the American value of equality.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Neutral

Critical Race Theory is an academic theory that has been co-opted and redefined to pursue political power. Racism has existed in our history and continues to exist in our. Society today, Ignoring or discrediting this reality serves no one.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Neutral

This argument speaks so poorly of males in society. Being a woman in society is no picnic. Women experience violence at higher rates, are paid less, and are considered inadequate in a variety of ways in a patriarchal society. The notion that males are so devious and sinister that they would identify as women to win at sports or to harm women in bathrooms seems a stretch to me. I think men deserve more respect and believe a trans woman's (in this case arduous) pursuit of happiness is her own

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

Wyoming can and should always be a leader in energy production. We must protect these high-paying jobs for hardworking families. We can preserve our legacy industries while also building a sustainable future with renewable energy products that meet the demands of the free market.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

As a citizen of Wyoming, I believe our state should always be a leader in energy production. If elected, I look forward to learning everything I can about the many options our economy is pursuing.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

I have not.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

I have not.

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

In Wyoming, we want the government to be as close to the people as possible, and we do not want the state to tell us how to pursue our happiness. I believe the general purpose of government is to provide the tools and framework for local control and to defend the small government values that have made Wyoming the best place to build a life for generations.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

Wyoming Democrats are a particular group of folks with generational ties to Wyoming. I am particularly proud to stand on the Laramie County Party platform, which has been carefully written by multi-generational Wyomingites.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Neutral

I would need more specifics to answer this question correctly. However, I do believe we ask far too much of law enforcement in addressing the mental health needs of our communities. I would be supportive of programs to aid law enforcement in their efforts, but I do not support de-funding them.

2ND AMENDMENT

Please express your views on the 2nd Amendment.

I believe responsible gun ownership is foundational to the American experience.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Neutral

I believe legalization has pros and cons, and I think it is worth considering. My hesitation to fully agree is based on a desire to ensure our state has adequate laws to minimize impaired driving for recreational users of marijuana. Those who recall driving in Colorado shortly after their state legalized it can attest that the state did not adequately prepare for that.
