QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Abortion is one of the most difficult decisions a person can make, and the government should not arbitrarily make it for them. Reproductive decisions between women, their doctor, their family and their faith should not be overridden by politicians or the government. The government should not restrict abortion healthcare access until viability or when the health or life of the mother is in danger.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Agree

As long as the reporting does not include personal identification information.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Disagree

Women's health clinics provide access to affordable OB-GYN services beyond abortion including screening for cancer and other diseases and providing access to contraception that make abortions unnecessary. Women's overall health should not be compromised because of just one of the legal services provided.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Agree

Everyone should have the freedom to make their own end-of-life decisions without being forced by the government to follow someone else's beliefs.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

In fact, the right balance of social programs protects our economic system. When too many people can't make it in our economy, that's when the threat of socialist revolution on the left and fascist revolution on the right become real threats. It's essential that everyone has the opportunity to fully participate in our economy by having access to quality public education, housing security, food security, access to healthcare and childcare services, as a minimum.

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I believe there should be a minimum wage, but that it be tied to the cost of living in individual counties. We need to make sure that a good job is enough to provide for yourself and your family, but this is not the same in all areas.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

Yes

Investment decisions should consider ESG ratings to ensure we are supporting companies that have ethical business practices, are socially responsible & meet or exceed environmental standards and regulations without violations or lawsuits.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

The government should never be allowed to close churches unless some illegal activity, such as drugs, human trafficking or money laundering, is found to be operating on its premises.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

Private individuals and businesses should not be required to provide services they don't want to, but they should be required to prominently post what they deny so the public can make decisions on where to seek services. Individuals that work for public institutions, companies and the government need to follow the policies and laws of those entities. If an individual does not want to follow those policies, they should find employment elsewhere.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. I do believe that people should pay into their healthcare service, even if provided by the government, based on ability to pay. However, we have to find ways to control healthcare costs so that government provided options can be self-sustaining. I do not believe that anyone should be denied healthcare because they can't afford it.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Vaccinations have been very effective in controlling diseases like polio and smallpox, COVID, RSV and flu. The Constitution mandates that the government promote the general Welfare. Private employers should be able to make their own policies.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

I think there's broad agreement on this.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Yes, it's important. Israel is the only stable democracy in the region, and as an ally, they provide valuable intel that keeps the US safer from terrorist organizations that seek to harm us.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

We should pass the bi-partisan border bill that conservative Senator James Lankford helped to write. We should not be allowing more immigrants to cross illegally because some politicians want to use it as a campaign issue.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Disagree

Parents have always had a choice of schools. By this logic, people without school-age children shouldn't have to pay school taxes and that would have widespread damage to our economy. Public education is about living in an educated society, fighting generational poverty, and providing equal access to good jobs & careers, reducing the need for social programs. The US is strongest economy in the world because of educational opportunities provided to all our youth with public education.

VALUES

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

Child abuse, bodily mutilation & sexual assault are already illegal, as it should be! Children should also be protected from teaching that the LGBTQ community is an ideological movement that should be judged and discriminated against. It is irresponsible to do so and contributes to the youth mental health crisis in this country.

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.

Strongly Agree

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their own minor children, but not for other people's children. There should be an option for children to seek intervention if their parents make decisions such as denying cancer treatments.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Neutral

Depends on the situation. Healthcare decisions should be between a person, their doctor, their faith and their family without government interference.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Neutral

Any religion can define marriage for their followers independent of the government. Marriage when defined as a civil legal status is independent of any specific religious belief. There are many religious people that accept same sex-marriage as valid and accepted within their religious beliefs. The United States government is based on the principle of separation of church and state and should not define any legal status consistent with any specific religious belief.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in being a good neighbor in my community and a good steward of the earth. I believe we should treat others as we would want to be treated if we were in their shoes. I believe that everyone should have the freedom to believe as they choose, and not be forced to follow other people's beliefs.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

Voting laws are up to each individual state. Currently Florida requires photo identification when voting in person and I do not intend to change that.

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

Neutral

Voting laws are up to each individual state. I believe in increasing democratic participation in these types of decisions, so I believe Floridians should vote whether to join the compact.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Yes, all forms of discrimination are threats to domestic security.   We've seen a lot of violence in the history of our country from hate groups promoting discrimination and from targeted groups fighting for equal rights.  Until we get to a place where we are all treated as human beings and equally respected regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or religion, this threat of violence will continue and potentially get worse.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Neutral

There is no question that we have had policies within institutions that have been racist. In fact, opponents of Affirmative Action assert those policies are fundamentally racist. I believe that policies that are perceived to be racist should be adjudicated on a case-by-case basis.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Neutral

Transgender people are such a small percentage (~0.6%) of the population and each case is so individual that I don't believe a one-size-fits-all policy should be forced on every institution and situation. If and when an issue arises, it should be handled on a case-by-case basis by the specific institutions or organizations involved in accordance with their policy based on objective criteria.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action. Regardless of the cause, the increasing severity of our weather is undeniable and is costing lives and billions of dollars. I believe we can find a balance of using technology to transition to cleaner energy sources where it makes sense and as technology evolves without disrupting our economy. I think the progress we've made in the past decade is proof of that and I don't understand why this is politically controversial.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

I believe different needs are best served by different energy sources. The most reliable approach is to have a mix of energy sources, incorporate new technology and cleaner approaches where possible and economically feasible.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No!

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No!

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To protect the country from foreign & domestic adversaries, protect our rights & freedoms under the Constitution, enforce the laws without political interference. To promote a stable economy by providing the right level of social services for equal opportunity to the American dream & protects us from extremist uprising of socialism or fascism. To ensure veterans, seniors & the disabled have needed services. To provide regulations to protect the environment, and access to clean air & water.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

I believe there are good ideas on all sides to ensure we have a sustainable, resilient and inclusive economy. I believe that in the United States, everyone should have the freedom to believe as they choose, live their lives as they choose and be free from others trying to force them to act in accordance with other people's beliefs.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Neutral

I believe local counties and municipalities should have the freedom to make decisions that are right for their communities.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

People should not be allowed to carry concealed weapons without a permit that requires background checks and training as is currently allowed in Florida. We should all have the freedom to go to the grocery store, park, library, restaurants, or anywhere without wondering who is carrying a weapon and could be provoked to use it at any moment. I believe in gun registration, red flag laws, background checks, and bans on automatic assault weapons and any weapon that out-guns police officers.

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

No

No. A good person with a gun is only effective against a bad person with a gun after someone has already been hurt, or worse, killed. More guns in our schools will result in more gun violence incidents in our schools. I believe children, teachers and all school workers should have the freedom to go to school without being afraid of not going home.
