QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When pregnancy would end the life of the mother. Look forward to the day when abortion does not end the development of the fetus.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Abolish as is and have a flat tax rate. Will increase compliance and decrease complexity and political games.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Reduce defense spending, eliminate Department of Education, don't guarantee student loans.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Agree
Agree in theory for in demand professional training but first need to dramatically reduce the cost. Otherwise this would be a huge potential abuse of public money like guaranteeing student loans is today.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Agree
Religious beliefs trump ones desire to have a service performed by a member of a community. Especially in an age when services can usually be performed by many other businesses.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Only if they are harboring and encouraging criminal activity at which point in time they cease to be churches.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
B. I believe in universal health insurance but not government provided health care(Think that would be a disaster). Business don't insure high risk/cost patients or they lose money and since every person is valued you an non business entity to provide health coverage high risk people. The most efficient way to do that is to provide universal coverage to pool expenses across healthy and non healthy populations,
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
If the alternative is widespread infection and death of a significant percentage of the population.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Identify groups that are threats and work with those countries where those threats exist to encourage them to teach that the US is not their enemy. That they should focus on building up their own nations instead of holding grievances against others for past actions. The bigger external threat is China. China is the pacing challenge as is mentioned in DoD talks the area in which I work. The everyday citizen can weaken China by not purchasing goods manufactured in China. Nationally we need to shift manufacturing to other nations and keep a strong military presence in the South Pacific.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Choose not to answer
I am not familiar with this movement. Clearly want peace in the middle east and that won't be achieved by compulsory means.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Would good is a permeable border? Theoretical?
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Those who have needed skills and are willing to obey the laws of the country.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
Agree to the concept of choice but because I agree with a flat tax I disagree with tax credits and voucher programs incentivizing people to make a choice. Government can either run the school or pay for someone to run their own school but shouldn't be picking winners and losers and handing out checks for private schools.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
Judeo-Christian values is the best basis for a moral society. Maybe there is something out there that can be equally effective but current frameworks are contributing to an increase in the size of government and laws to offset circumstances where the golden rule is not followed and neighbors are not treated as brothers and sisters.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Gender is not self identified, your orientation or interests may be. These laws while perhaps being well intended would protect an ambiguous concept which would lead to confusion.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Agree
I think government should not be defining marriage.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Not all institutions in the country have a racist past or reason for existence. This seems like a very myopic understanding of history.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a child of God as is everyone else making us brothers and sisters. We chose to come to earth. We should love God because he first loved us and gave us this opportunity to live. We should love our neighbors. We show our love for God by obedience to him and loving our neighbors. I believe that all people will stand accountable before God for the actions committed and not committed(those that reasonably could have been done) while on earth. I believe we will all live again someday and that we will have much more harmony in the world than what we presently experience.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Agree
You can vote without voter id but you need voter idea to register to vote. Registration should require a photo ID definitely.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
New practices for voting all candidates fill out one standard survey. Voters can see survey results and take the same survey. Voters can compare their responses to candidates. Candidates may present a candidate profile and must disclose voting record. Voters can rank candidates in order of those that best represent and least represent them using Rank Choice Voting methods.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Possibly if people make it a big deal. Otherwise I would handle racism on a case by case basis. A lot of generalizations or broad brushes toward groups as victims and perpetrators is not constructive.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Way to opened ended without direction causation. Wrong in so many ways as well as completely impractical. Why should tax payers or worse yet tax payers of a particular race pay money to people of a different race without evidence they have done something wrong? Tying back to the slave trade is more ludicrous since no one alive on either side was alive over 150 years ago.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A is closer to my view point but some laws and regulations are worth the cost and a complete environmental compliance could bankrupt the country. A bankrupt manufacturer for example creates no pollution and also no jobs and no products. We need sensible laws and compliance with those laws. We all want a clean planet, agreeing on how we can be good stewards for the earth and live, work, manufacture on it is an important group decision.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Agree
As long as it is not destroying the environment or causing earthquakes I don't have a problem with fracking.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To provide the right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and other unalienable rights to its citizens under the consent of its citizens.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Choose not to answer
I think this survey is supposed to answer this question. I think I am rather conservative on most issues but I am not very happy with the positions that many self called "conservatives" have taken lately. IE Increasing the federal deficit, denying election results, treating immigrants poorly,
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Anyone who knows me knows I am a compassionate conservative. I put people first. I believe in being fiscally conservative(I am a CPA and have worked in finance for 25 years). I believe in conserving resources that have been given to us both in terms of environmental resources and financial. We should be thankful not wasteful. Conservatives should be the least wasteful people in my definition of the word. I think it a mistake to call capitalists(who would exploit the environment for gain) necessarily a conservative. I believe in small government and following the constitution as outlined by the founding fathers. I think many in power abuse the authority given them and they do not follow the separation of powers described for their offices. Furthermore they over tax people often to please the people who support their campaigns. We need to love and respect others and converse civilly so that we can balance the needs of many parties and search out solutions where most parties are satisfied. We need to emphasis the common good in each of us and deemphasize issues and extremists that would separate us.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
Never done such things.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
5 steps to improving government by eliminating primaries/caucuses, eliminating campaigning, rank choice voting, term limits, and prosecuting conflict of interest actions. Those steps would reduce the influence of money in campaigning and while serving, would increase transparency, and allow for more candidates with less incentives to compromise on their integrity. As for other issues I'm concerned about the drought in our state(Utah) and our slow reaction to limiting our water usage/waste. Also concerned about housing availability and the constant push for growth when unemployment is 2%.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
You can't prosecute someone for doing their job. If they have done something wrong in that case then go after those who defined their job incorrectly.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Agree
That is fine as long as we have sufficient police officers to support the community. The treatment of many police officers lately is discouraging potential recruits from entering the police force. Need to be safe from immediate danger first and then work on long term support measures like supporting mental health and community programs.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I don't want 8 year olds carrying loaded automatic weapons to show and tell. So we need an age limit to possessing a gun. We need more thorough background checks on people purchasing guns. Fine to know of someone's terribly threatening Facebook/Instagram posts after they have gone on a shooting spree. Would be far better if the search engines that include all these threats are referenced during back ground checks so the applicant does not get a gun in the first place.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Disagree
Sue the people that fired the shots. Dealers and manufactures should only be sued for false advertising, knowing harming the environment, or making something that does not perform to specifications.
