QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Choose not to answer

As a Trustee, this question does not fall decisions I would be need to make. Personally, I am adopted and am grateful the choice that was made to give me up to the most incredible parents that raised me!

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

As a Trustee, this is not an issue that falls within the responsibilities or decisions of a school board. I believe these are deeply personal issues that are best addressed outside of my role as a Trustee. Personally, I am adopted, and I am grateful for the choice my biological mother made to give me up for adoption and for the incredible parents who raised me.

ECONOMY

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Choose not to answer

I understand the concern that student loan forgiveness can shift costs to taxpayers who may not have student debt. At the same time, I believe higher education is an important investment in our communities and economy. As a school board trustee, however, student loan policy is not an issue I would be responsible for deciding. My focus is on preparing students for success, whether they choose college, career, or another path.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I strongly support government funding of public education from Pre-K through college. A strong public education system benefits students, families, communities, and our economy. Every student should have access to a high-quality education regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. As a school board trustee, my focus is on ensuring our public schools have the resources needed to help every student succeed.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

To me, separation of church and state means public schools should be welcoming and safe places for every student, regardless of their religious beliefs or whether they practice a religion at all. Schools should respect and protect the rights of all students while ensuring that no particular religion is promoted or imposed. Every child deserves to feel included, respected, and safe at school.

IMMIGRATION

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.

Choose not to answer

Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, not one that falls within the duties of a school board Trustee. I believe our schools should be safe, welcoming places where every student can learn without fear. My responsibility as a Trustee is to support the safety, education, and well-being of every student in our district.

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Choose not to answer

I believe decisions regarding abortion and gender-affirming care are private family matters and should be made by parents in consultation with their children and their healthcare providers. These are not services a school district provides nor decisions that should be directed by a school board. My focus as a Trustee is ensuring students have a safe, supportive school environment where they can learn and thrive.

Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Agree

I believe safe and orderly schools are essential for student learning. At the same time, all behavior is a form of communication, and discipline should be fairly and consistently administered with learning and growth at the center. Consequences do not have to be punitive. They should help students understand the impact of their choices, learn from them, and develop the skills needed to make better choices moving forward.

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Agree

I believe students should receive a thorough education about America’s founding documents, history, and the principles upon which our government was established. Students should be encouraged to understand both our nation’s accomplishments and its challenges. I also believe education should inform and encourage thoughtful civic engagement, allowing students to develop their own understanding, not dictate what students should believe.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

The U.S. Department of Education plays an important role in protecting students’ rights and ensuring programs such as those under IDEA are implemented and monitored. States and local communities have important responsibilities, but federal oversight helps ensure protections are consistent for students with disabilities. I support identifying and reducing waste and inefficiency, but not eliminating the department and the important safeguards under their wing.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

I support age-appropriate, medically accurate instruction on human anatomy, reproductive health, abstinence, consent, contraception, pregnancy and fetal development, and the physical and emotional aspects of relationships. Parents should have a meaningful role in these conversations. Instruction should be factual and respectful, without promoting particular beliefs or behaviors, and should help students make informed, responsible decisions.

It is discriminatory for a school district to cause academically eligible students to forfeit participation in U.I.L. competition when the student opts for instruction outside of the public school system.

Strongly Disagree

I disagree. When a student is not enrolled in a school district, the district does not receive funding associated with that student, yet UIL participation requires district resources such as coaches, facilities, uniforms, and trainers. It is also difficult to ensure academic eligibility is applied fairly when students are enrolled in two different education systems. This is about resources and fairness, not discrimination.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

This is an impossible task. Who gets to decide which subjects are more important for each student? This list is exactly why public education spans 12 years: to expose students to a wide variety of subjects and opportunities while allowing them to discover their interests, strengths, and passions. Our goal should be to give students a strong foundation and the opportunity to find the path that is right for them.

Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.

Neutral

I disagree with the statement as written. I absolutely believe schools should prioritize academic achievement and character development, but for many reasons- not simply to preserve American traditions. Schools should help students develop critical thinking, responsibility, resilience, empathy, and the skills they need to succeed in life. Students should also learn about our history, government, and civic responsibilities while being prepared to contribute to an ever-changing world.

School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.

Disagree

I am not opposed to competition, but it does not guarantee public schools will improve. I believe the competition should be equal. If a private school receives taxpayer funds, it should be held to the same financial and academic accountability standards as public schools. Those receiving public dollars should also be subject to the same open records requirements so taxpayers can see how their money is being spent. Public funding should come with public accountability.

VALUES

Biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Disagree

I disagree with the statement as written. However, the broader issues listed here are not decisions that fall within the role of a school board Trustee. Regarding school athletics, UIL establishes the rules that school districts must follow for participation. As a Trustee, my responsibility is to ensure our district follows applicable laws and UIL rules while providing a safe, respectful environment for all students.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian. I have been a Christian since I was six years old when I attended a backyard Bible club.My religious beliefs have guided my personal decision making for my entire life and, ideally, I want everyone to believe what I do. However, I also DEEPLY believe in separation of church and state. I respect other people’s choice of religion, or to not practice any religion whatsoever, and honestly, welcome the diversity in thought. Public schools must be welcoming and beneficial for ALL students- no matter their religion, skin color, sexuality or socioeconomic status. I have and will continue to make decisions in the best interest of ALL children because children are not red or blue!

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

Parents have a fundamental right and responsibility to direct their children’s education and well-being. Texas has already codified these parental rights in state law, including through Senate Bill 12, which strengthened parents’ rights regarding their children’s education and health. As a Trustee, I believe schools should partner with parents and respect their role as the primary decision-makers for their children.

I support the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

Strongly Agree

I believe strongly that people should be judged by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin. Our schools should treat every student with dignity and respect, provide equal opportunities to succeed, and help students learn to value one another for who they are.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Choose not to answer

This is not an issue that falls within the responsibilities or decisions of a school board Trustee. My role is to focus on the education, safety, and well-being of the students in our district. I believe Trustees should remain focused on the issues that directly impact our schools, students, families, and educators.

Mental health conditions such as anorexia and gender dysphoria need to be treated, not affirmed.

Choose not to answer

This is not an issue that falls within the responsibilities or decisions of a school board Trustee. My role is to focus on the education, safety, and well-being of the students in our district. I believe Trustees should remain focused on the issues that directly impact our schools, students, families, and educators.

School library books that have literary value, as determined by experts, should be exempt from obscenity laws.

Neutral

I have mixed feelings about this statement. Books can have significant literary value, but school libraries must also follow state laws regarding content. I believe skilled library professionals should select and review age-appropriate materials using established standards. Parents should also have a clear process to exclude specific materials from their own child’s access, while recognizing that one family’s preferences may differ from another’s.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

While this is not a decision a school board makes, photo identification is required for many aspects of everyday life, including school enrollment, and I believe reasonable identification requirements help protect the integrity of our elections. At the same time, the government should make it easier for every eligible voter to obtain an ID by providing convenient access to locations, hours, and services needed to get one. Voting should be secure and accessible.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

NO

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

NO

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2014 General Election 2016 General Election 2018 General Election 2020 Republican Primary 2020 General Election 2022 Republican Primary 2022 General Election

What political party are you affiliated with?

Non-partisan

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Choose not to answer

Trustee races in the State of Texas are non-partisan because we should support ALL students in our schools. Children are not red or blue!

2ND AMENDMENT

Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.

Disagree

I believe schools should have trained, professional law enforcement officers responsible for responding to active shooter situations. Our district already has armed officers in our schools for this purpose. Teachers and other school staff should be focused on educating and supporting students, not placed in the position of carrying a firearm or responding to an active shooter.
