QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Agree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Students should not be allowed to pray in school.

Disagree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Disagree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I believe there should be free and public education for preschool through high school

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

To hire and evaluate the superintendent, set policy, set and oversee the budget, and set the vision and mission of the school district.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

Since the superintendent is held accountable for the scores students earn on state and national testing, the superintendent should be able to choose the curriculum, in consultation with the elected members of SBDM councils made up of an equal number of parents and teachers who must deliver that curriculum. Resources supporting that curriculum should be chosen and approved by the SBDM council.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

There is designated time for parents to speak at every school board business meeting.. This time can be before action items are considered or at the end of the meeting when parents want to talk about non-agenda items.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Omit gender identity, critical Race Theory, political activism, and sexuality Language arts,Mathematics, vocational Learning, information technology physical fitness, Foreign Language, Music Art, social-emotional learning

American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.

Strongly Agree

American History, Science, Personal Finance, social Studies,

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

I do believe in public school options. Taxpayer funding of charter schools or private schools is unconstitutional in Kentucky and should be. Both charter and private schools wind up selecting the best students - the ones cheapest and easiest to educate - and send the most challenging students back to already under-funded public schools that would be stripped of the funding the most expensive to educate kids leave at the charter or private school that first selected them. I believe parents sho

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Disagree

Teachers have their personal items stolen as a common occurrence. If kids know they have a gun stowed somewhere, that gun can be stolen and used by the wrong person. Trained, armed officers are best prepared to deal with shooters.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

We do require some vaccinations before students are enrolled, so there are illnesses that do deserve vaccinations, but usually I think vaccinations should be driven by the parents and not school policy.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Disagree

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

My voting record - my support for school discipline based on the behavior offense, without consideration of other factors such as race; my support of allowing parents to decide whether or not their kids should wear masks; mysupport of SRO‘S in our schools when we had them; mysupport of arming our officers so they can meet armed threats from either students or intruders; my having voted against raising taxes an extra nickel during the pandemic; my arguing against automatic $% tax increases every year, just because state law allows us to do that. My voting record supports my conservative orientation.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am a former teacher and high school AP, so my experience grounds me in the realities of what schools do. For 16 years I have worked hard to listen to my constituents, spending countless hours answering emails and returning phone calls. I am proud of the direction our district is moving in expanding industry certifications for students and improving their graduation rates (now at 81%0 and college and post-secondary rates, now at 70%. I am excited to have our own police force, armed and [repared to meet armed threats in our buildings, and look forward to continuing to grow that force to protect all our schools. I am proud of our new school choice plan that will eliminate forced busing in the near future while funding schools according to the needs of their students rather than according to the numbers of students they serve. I feel my experience and voting record show I am in touch with my constituents and with our school staff, and that I am best positioned to continue to represent the residents of District 5.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in Jesus Christ and His teachings. I believe and recite the Apostles Creed. Through God, all things are possible. I worship regularly at Epiphany United Methodist Church where I serve as Treasurer and on the Administrative Council

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents should be responsible for teaching about sex, unless they give permission for others to teach human sexuality, and that should begin when kids begin to ask about it, when they are approaching puberty.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

No to sex acts and pleasures, abortion methods, and side effects, sexual orientation, and gender identity

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree
