RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
The choice is to remain with the woman and her doctor. Any reason she feels appropriate through the first trimester or so should be considered valid. I do not tell others what to do with their body nor should the state. A reasonable duration seems appropriate with exceptions to follow in later trimesters for the life of the mother or discovery of an unviable fetus. This not to be misconstrued as sanctioning gender or disability selection criteria in later terms.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
Women should have the right to determine what is best for themselves and their own bodies. The state does not disallow elective surgery for other medical decisions that include outcomes that will preclude pregnancy. This should be no different with a reasonable time to consider any termination of pregnancy.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
Again, a personal choice. I have recently seen the suffering of a dear friend as he proceeded to the end of his life. It was an agonizingly slow, painful progression to the unavoidable conclusion. Had he the option, I am sure he would have opted for a path with less suffering for himself and his family. This is a personal decision that should be left to each person and acknowledged by the state. We do allow DNR's in a living will, this too should include self-termination should the criteria
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Corporations should be examined more closely and those with excessive wealth should not enjoy loopholes paid for by the lower and middle classes. Subsidies to corporations should be limited, including through the tax code. Progressive taxation should remain in place with steps added for higher income tiers without loopholes. No taxpayer at the 50,000 income level or lower should ever pay more taxes than those of higher incomes.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
The first place to look for savings is the most expensive line items under the military-industrial complex support. What we spend on one nuclear bomb or B1 bomber could be better used in social support or debt reduction. Excessive charges and corruption elimination in this area of spending could well constitute sufficient savings for debt reduction and lowering overall tax rates. Once the debt is under control, we can then look to how to fund social security and other programs that have been raided to fund pet projects (the Wall) that are only designed to increase donations to political parties and politicians. Cap the profit ratio for contractors lined up at the public trough and perhaps consider a guarantee of a minimum profit and maximum under government contracts.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Agree
The advancement of society depends upon the resources we use for getting those who are gifted into opportunities to use their gifts. If we make college through a 4-year degree at no cost (establishing minimal success criteria to be attained to continue) the benefit to society will produce tax revenue and other tangible benefits for the country as a whole. Not saddling a student with insurmountable debt allows them to have more money left after graduation to become entrepreneurs and contribute
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
Religion does not take choices away from those who do not believe but should allow us to pursue the theological equilibrium for the individual. Businesses should accommodate employees who have any objection to dispensing something objectionable whenever possible. If they are unable to do so, then that person should not be the arbiter of who should get a product or not. If one does not believe in birth control they may apply that belief to themselves and no other.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
If they present a danger to others in the society then such a closing would be justified. If they are fomenting dissent, they have that right to a point. That level would be set at what point does the action pose a danger to others.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
B. A basic health care plan should be a right of citizenship and treatment for emergent needs not denied due to lack of citizenship or funds. That being said, elective procedures need not be part of the coverage. The transference of medical coverage to a single payor system can achieve that but not be the end-all for all medical treatment. Options to go outside the plan would be available for those who wish to pay for it themselves.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Where public health and well-being are most greatly affected by such vaccinations. If some choose to opt-out for religious or other reasons then they should be prepared to pay the brunt of medical services needed in the event they become afflicted with the preventable via vaccine condition. Payment may be financial or limiting access to other benefits of society like getting an education, a job, or other social participation in activities. The guidelines should be established through science and not be political.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Educate those who would wish to attack us and show them that we are not a threat. Open dialogue to prevent isolation and extremism from any religious point of view. Work to reduce poverty and other factors that make religious extremism, from any faith, less appealing to the people.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Neutral
I say neutral only because some territories occupied by Isreal were captured during defensive struggles where Isreal was attacked. Occupation of these areas would be justified as a cost to the losing aggressor. BDS should be applied to areas that have been traditionally a part of Isreal as a tool for the reintegration of civil discourse in relationships between the peoples of Isreal who are generationally displaced. Isreal was created with little/no input from the residents of the Palestinian
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Disagree
There would be no need to 'secure ' the border if we were supportive of democratic solutions to issues in countries south of the border. Immigrants from all walks of life enhance this country and have made it an example for others to succeed in similar experiments. The US has too long expected to exploit the resources of other countries for its own benefit rather than pursue win/win exchanges that would mitigate the need to flee from repressive regimes or circumstances.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Anyone who wishes to relocate based on their desire to contribute to society to the fullest extent they can. Use the motto on the Statue of Liberty as our guide.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Disagree
While I work in a charter school presently, I do see the need for some alternative options. Funding private schools should not be the purview of our education dollars and public schooling deserves better funding to make sure the students are getting what they need and deserve to be successful. Homeschooling should be monitored to ensure progress and integrated with public school opportunities as needed to make well-rounded citizens.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Disagree
In fact, that is not an accurate statement. Input into the formation of the government of this country was strongly influenced by indigenous cultures that were forced out by death or relocation. The prime example here is the Iriquois League that so impressed Mr. B. Franklin that his input into the tripartite government was based on that example and accepted as an alternative governing system accepted today as normal. The Judeo-Christian model has many tenets in line with other religious theol
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Agree
To the extent that there should be no discrimination based on gender orientation at all as there should be no discrimination based on sex, religion, race, or cultural identity in general (which remains a goal and not reality).
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Disagree
Whose God should we use as a base? Most all societies believe in the benefits of marital rights and obligations as a premise to furthering the needs of society whether or not God (insert yours) ordained the union or not. Man ordains, my God blesses...
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Disagree
I do not agree that CRT asserts the absolute racism of institutions. It does point out, however, that a major perspective of history was not part of our understanding and traditions that brought us to this day. It does give credit to other races that were minimally recognized for their contributions.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that God is a construct of man to explain the power of the universe that created sentient life. I believe then that God is manifest in all aspects of life on our planet and the universe at large. The teachings of Jesus form the basis for my relationship with God and man alike.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Agree
Until the state can provide instant verification documents, yes. Forgeries of official documentation can have photo's incorporated as well so the photo is not the most secure form of identity verification.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I would abolish obstructionism in ballot access both by political groups and citizens who live in a community. All should have access and opportunity to participate in the election process. Voting should be a guaranteed right for all, not just those with whom we agree.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. Racism influences how laws are interpreted and applied to members of our society. Justice should be blind to those who are not the same as the enforcement and adjudication entities. We must also be cognizant that racism is bred to be economically based. Denial of rights prevents the economic benefits of those rights. Being colour blind in society is a goal yet to be realized and when we can accept the competition for scarce resources is the same for all who exist, then we can become more likely to see past skin colour or culture and see we are all part of the human race.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Neutral
My party is in favour of such a concept but still unable to determine what that would look like. I feel there should be opportunity for all to succeed regardless of economics or cultural background. The people wronged in slavery are long dead but those indigenous peoples displaced remain so in many ways. What race criteria shall we establish to receive reparations? What will the reparations look like? Reparations will not right the wrongs done, but opening education and opportunity for all
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
B. Because the opportunities of the non-carbon-based economies are going to be lost if we do not embrace long-term strategies that include laws and regulations allowing the reallocation of resources towards the future needs of mankind. Sustainable fuels and access to them is the best way we know to minimize economic instability for the present and future.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Disagree
As in the prior question, this is not a viable alternative to seeking and developing renewable resources for energy needs.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To equalize the field of play for all who compete for resources. To enhance the development of social goals and views allowing for development of new or dissenting ideas while preserving the opportunity for all to succeed.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Liberal
This is semantics. If I choose to conserve nature am I not conservative? Politically I am very liberal in my wish to be conservative.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
I suppose you could look to my voting record, though that would violate the secret ballot. The organizations to which I support or belong would be an indicator. My social media would also give an idea of what I have espoused before entering the fray of politics.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
Nope. As attested to by being in education as a choice for my profession.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I would like to think I am pragmatic in my approach to the resolution of issues. I am seeking long-term solutions over quick fixes. I will use my moral compass to determine my feelings and ask my constituents regularly what they feel. My goal is to be able to give the following generations a better world and environment that which was left for me.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Agree
Providing we aggressively teach officers the policies and minimalize mitigating circumstances.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
I disagree only in the fact that I feel the funding should be adequate for both police and mental health or community programs. Abuse of public funding should not be tolerated in any case from any of these needs.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Quicker access to background checks. Also, I would require gun owners to get mandatory insurance for firearm use/misuse. Make firearms sales contingent on gun safety courses and the ability to adequately store and keep guns out of the hands of those not intended. I would also like to see liability back on the sellers of guns so that, not unlike bar owners/bartenders failing to stop serving, they too share in the misuse of guns they put into the hands of customers. Perhaps require fingerprint checks by police before issuing a permit for the purchase of a gun. Limiting gun sales to the technology firearms had in the 1770's?
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Agree
See above and more. I believe manufacturers could be doing much more to engineer safety into guns. My brother-in-law showed me a Steyr pistol that has a gunlock built into the gun. Unless unlock it cannot load or fire a chambered round. This should be on all guns sold for private consumption so as to minimize accidental discharge and regular loss of life seen when children find a gun to play with.
