RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
All medical and healthcare decisions should be between the patient and their doctor. I trust individuals to know what circumstances are right for them. Government shouldn't be involved in saying when a life saving medical procedure can or cannot be performed. If a government could prohibit an abortion, they could also mandate an abortion.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Did not answer
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
The current status quo has many thousands committing suicide by gun every year. Canada has had some success by allowing those with terminal illness to end their life with dignity after first getting sign off from several qualified healthcare professionals. All human life is valuable. Euthanasia should be a last resort, and should never be the default option.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Billionaires and giant corporations should pay more than they do, and certainly should never be paying 0 in taxes through dubious accounting schemes.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
At the national level: Reduce subsidies for fossil fuel companies, and slightly reduce our massive military budget At the state level: stop funding frivolous lawsuits, stop paying tech companies above market rate for substandard medical tests.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Agree
Our economy and community relies on a highly educated citizenry. Your(or your parents) ability to pay should not determine if you get a college degree or not.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
Corporations shouldn't be given the same religious protections human beings are. If an individual believes that a particular job would require them to break their sincerely held religious beliefs they should consider getting a different job. Most of these instances are overblown publicity stunts.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Only in the most extreme of circumstances: If they are actively committing violent felonies and also actively causing human death. They should lose tax exempt status for other harmful acts that don't meet that level.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
I support both A and B. Every other first world country manages to have publicly funded healthcare, and get better health outcomes while spending much less money
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Any time a vaccination requirement would save lives and improve quality of life. Vaccines are the single greatest tool humanity has to save lives and improve the overall condition of humanity. They're also very cost effective, and become more effective the more people are vaccinated. We'd still be dealing with Polio if it weren't for a vaccination mandate.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
We've already done and are doing lots on this front.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Neutral
I'm not familiar with BDS, but support the full equality of Palestinians and refugees, and don't think we should allow Israel(or any other group or organization) to commit human rights violations.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Disagree
Most people here illegally came here legally and just overstayed their visa. If we had a well functioning guest worker and legal immigration programs the number of illegal immigrants would greatly decrease. We already do plenty to physically secure the southern border, and already have fencing along populated areas.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
America is at her best when she is welcoming of immigrants, especially refugees. Immigrants should be able to legally come work jobs regular Americans don't want.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Disagree
Utah already allows parents plenty of choice. Parents can request to have their children attend any public school with spare capacity, and also have a number of charter schools they can attend. Public funds should NOT be used to pay for private tuition. Parents that want to pay out of pocket for a private school (or want total control over their child's education via home schooling) are welcome to do so, but our communities are made strong and vibrant via a robust, quality, public education.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Disagree
The first amendment guarantees separation of church and state, and no religion has a monopoly on morality.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Agree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Disagree
I support the marriage of any 2 consenting adults. What 2 consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home shouldn't be something government is concerned with as long as they aren't harming anyone. God belongs in churches, not in secular government. Religions can have their own definition of marriage for marriages they officiate, but they shouldn't get to mandate that their definition is the one everyone else uses.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Neutral
CRT is an academic theory studied by a handful of students in Universities. CRT isn't something being taught in k-12 public schools in Utah. America does have a racist past, and pretending otherwise does no one any good. America also has some pretty great moments, and we should teach all of history, the good and the bad. Learning from history is the best way to make sure we don't repeat the mistakes of it.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Agree
Vote by Mail in Utah is convenient and secure. Voter fraud is incredibly rare.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I would support expanded use of Ranked Choice Voting, which leads to much higher voter satisfaction and allows 3rd parties to succeed.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
"A house divided cannot stand" -Abraham Lincoln A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Similarly, the strength of America depends on how much we value the rights and equality of ALL Americans.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
This seems a false dichotomy. You can have onerous regulations that have little to no benefit. You can also have regulations that are well designed that greatly benefit the environment with minimal economic cost. You can even help the economy and create new jobs while benefiting the environment. I support well designed and implemented regulations where the benefits outweigh the costs.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Disagree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Provide for the common good and promote the general welfare. Take a longer view towards the good of all citizens.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Liberal
I believe in common-sense solutions and that people working together in good faith can find common ground.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Did not answer
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
Properly funding public education and supporting our public schools is my first and main priority. I also care about air quality, water conservation, smart growth, and accountability from our elected representatives. I do not think public dollars should be spent on a Gondola up Little Cottonwood Canyon, which seems more like a tourist attraction than a serious transit solution.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Neutral
We should pay our first responders more, but also hold them to a higher standard.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Agree
We ask too much of our police officers. They should not be expected to deal with mental health and medical emergencies, we should have experts in those specific fields who handle those cases.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Background checks on sales, requirements for safe storage, limits on magazine sizes and sale of high capacity military style weaponry.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Agree
What other industry gets broad immunity from people using their product to cause intentional harm and death?
