Personal Finances Vocational Learning Mathematics Science Foreign Language Language Arts Art and Music American History
American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.
Strongly Agree
Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.
Strongly Agree
The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.
Strongly Agree
I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.
Disagree
I believe we need to address the role that slavery played in building our nation while at the same time addressing the role of social norms of the day.
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
What is the function of the local school board?
To provide a pathway and guidance for educators to follow in order to give our students the best chance for success in life. The BOE should make every effort to eliminate activism, encourage parent participation, a foster, a sense of community that welcomes all people and all views, not just views that are politically popular at a given point in time. .
Do you support the National School Board Association's characterization of parents who speak out at school board meetings as "domestic terrorists"?
No
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
NCDIPC w/input from local BOE's that have established a student and parent advisory panel.
Who has the ultimate right to control the education of children in public schools? (a) parents (b) teachers (c)school boards.
C with input from both a and b
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe in a God that is loving and merciful towards all people. I also believe it is important that we recognize that the only way to eliminate prayer in school would be to eliminate test. :-)
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Disagree
I think it's incredibly important that we respect and honor and the value the members of the LGBTQ+ community that attend our schools. We want to make sure that those students realize they are equal to all other students. Not above nor below. We must strive to ensure that every student athlete has a chance to excel in their sport. We believe that LGBTQ+ students should have freedom of speech & expression w/in guidelines set by the BOE. LGBTQ+ status should not be used for athletic gain.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Parents but the BOE should establish a way accommodate parents who prefer schools to handle this conversation. This should begin no earlier than the onset of puberty between 6th and 8th grade
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
We believe that if parents would prefer the schools educate their children about sex that each of these topics should be discussed. Within age, appropriate guidelines and we strongly believe that courseware related to abortion include firsthand accounts of all possible mental and physical side effects.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Neutral
Believe that the morals taught by all religions have the ability to enhance the educational experience of our students. However, we do not favor religious education in public schools.
No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Agree
We recognize that there must be exceptions made for this in the event that there is child abuse for the strong likelihood of child abuse. If the parent is notified. We believe that social workers should be available in the schools for these cases, but that in the vast majority of cases, parental consent and acknowledgment of treatment, as well as a willingness to cont supporting the treatment at home, is important in order to facilitate the best outcome possible for the student.
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.
Strongly Agree
EQUALITY
I support the teaching that an individual, solely by virtue of his or her race, is inherently racist, whether consciously or unconsciously.
Strongly Disagree
