QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Agree
No organization that intentionally kills innocent babies should provide resources or instruction or services in any school.
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
I believe we should protect innocent life and the safest place for a human being should be inside of his or her mother's womb.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.
Strongly Agree
We should teach young people how to use critical thinking skills. We should not tell them what to think but rather encourage open dialogue and how to engage in civil discourse without intentionally offending others. All students should be free to speak about their faith. I love the Lord Jesus Christ and am willing to say so to anyone who asks.
School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Marriage originated in the Garden of Eden where God blessed the first man and woman and told them to be fruitful and multiply. No one should be discriminated against for believing that marriage is the union of a man and a woman.
Students should not be allowed to pray in school.
Strongly Disagree
No one should be prevented from praying. I believe in the power of prayer and believe that God blesses those who diligently seek Him.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
I would never approve of executive orders ordering businesses to close. Nor would I support any communist or socialist policy that would seek to take away the right to private property ownership. We should teach our students the value of free enterprise, to honor our country and our flag, and to appreciate our Democracy.
School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.
Strongly Disagree
I am strongly opposed to taxpayer funded lobbying. Our taxes should not be used to influence legislation that we disagree with.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
I would like to see the State of Texas covering all M&O costs of all K-12 education.
EDUCATION
What is the function of the local school board?
The school board exercises oversight over the Superintendent, establishing policies for him/her to implement and holding the Superintendent accountable for carrying out those policies. The school board establishes the annual budget and should always provide a balanced budget. The school board calls elections and sets the property tax rate each year.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The school board should work with the superintendent to establish appropriate curriculum for educating students and to approve resources.
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
Parents should be free to speak during the "citizen comments" portion of school board meetings. Outside of that time, there should be order in the meeting and there should not be outbursts from observers who have not been recognized to speak. Parents have the final authority over their kids, and public schools should never seek to undermine that authority. I find it outrageous that peaceful parents have been removed from school board meetings in our area and arrested, simply for disagreeing with board members.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
Language Arts is most important. If a student does not know how to read and write, that student cannot be expected to find success in school. Mathematics and Science should also have a high priority. Physical Fitness is vital to maintaining a healthy body and sports programs are important. American History and Texas History and World History are important subjects. I would like to see more Vocational Learning in our High Schools and Information Technology is also very important. Learning a Foreign Language helps us to better understand other people's way of thinking. Art and Music are areas where many students excel and those subjects are important for a refined society. I am strongly opposed to teaching Critical Race Theory and Gender Identity in our schools. No adult should be talking with other people's children about any kind of sexual acts without the knowledge and approval of the parents. No school employee should be required to call a boy a girl or to call a girl a boy. Boys should not participate in sports that are designated as girls sports. Boys should not be allowed in girls restrooms or showers and girls should not be allowed in boys restrooms or showers.
American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.
Strongly Agree
Our nation was founded on the premise that all men are created equal and endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights. This premise was emphasized by Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address and by Martin Luther King Jr in his "I Have a Dream" speech. God has created each of us equally and no man is superior to any other man. This is the principle of equality that our nation was built on. The amendments to our Constitution outline the liberties to which we all are entitled.
Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.
Strongly Agree
Sex Ed should only be provided with parental permission and should only be offered for one day during the school year for students in high school. Sex Ed should not include homosexual practices and should emphasize abstinence prior to marriage. I am not in favor of SEL being taught in public schools.
The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.
Strongly Agree
I will not sell the souls of our children in exchange for money from any source. I will not give up local control in exchange for federal dollars.
I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.
Strongly Disagree
America was not founded on slavery or racism. It is true that slavery is a dark stain in the history of our nation and we should not be afraid of acknowledging and teaching that fact. But our nation was not founded on slavery nor on racism. We should not teach students to judge each other based on the color of their skin. We should not teach students that they are guilty for what people did in past generations.
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
I am in favor of a variety of options for education rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. I like having an availability of Charter Schools, Private Schools, Homeschooling, Technical Trade Schools, etc. Each child is unique and we should provide a variety of opportunities for families. If overcrowding is an issue in our school district, all of these options are solutions that can provide relief to overcrowding.
2ND AMENDMENT
Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
Strongly Agree
I agree with allowing certain school personnel to carry a concealed weapon if appropriate training is provided from local law enforcement and with the full knowledge of school administrators. Administrators should know who is carrying weapons in our schools and training should include how to ensure a weapon is not taken from the person carrying it. School safety is of paramount importance and there must be open communication between employees before any weapon is allowed onto campuses.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?
Schools should not be allowed to require vaccinations.
I support mask mandates.
Strongly Disagree
No student or employee should ever be forced to wear a facemask against his or her will.
ABOUT YOU
Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?
Objective number one. "Parents will be full partners with educators in the education of their children."
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Strongly Disagree
A person's moral values are the foundation on which all decisions are made. I always consider a person's moral character when choosing who to vote for.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
I am fiscally and socially conservative. I believe government should live within its means and not continually seek to extract ever-increasing portions of earned income from private citizens. I believe in the integrity of the family and that it is God's design for a man and woman to marry before having children. Legal immigration is healthy for a country but illegal immigration should be prevented.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
I'll add this later.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am running in a slate of four conservative candidates that include Brandi Burkman, Shawn Leege, Paul Gauthier and Mike Sanders for LISD Board of Trustees.
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a born-again Christian. I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior when I was 21 years old and at that time I passed from death into life. I was a dead man walking and became a child of the eternal King on that day. I deserved eternal punishment for my transgressions but I now have eternal life because Jesus paid the price for my sins and my faith in His sacrifice grants me entrance into heaven. I am glad to live in a country where we are free to choose our beliefs and worship whomever we choose. God does not force anyone to worship Him. If He did, we would be no more than robots. But we are free to choose and because of that freedom, if we choose to worship Him, that worship flowing from a free heart, has great value. In America each person is free to worship whomever or whatever they choose. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
No boy should be allowed to compete against girls in a sport that is designated as a girls sport.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
I believe parents should teach their kids about procreation. There are many levels at which that should be taught. For example, when my kids were preschool age, I taught them that no one was allowed to ever touch their private parts and that they should tell mommy and daddy if anyone ever tried to do that. When they reached 11 or 12 years old I explained to each of them how a man and a woman procreate. If parents want others to teach this concept to their children, the school district can provide a short one-day class on the subject, subject to receiving prior written permission from a parent or legal guardian. No sex ed class should include sexual practices outside of what every mammal does to procreate their species.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
If Sexual Education is taught in a public school, that should only be done with written consent from the parents. The appropriate topics would be human anatomy and the reproductive system, stages of pregnancy and fetal development, physical and emotional health outcomes, consent, and abstinence.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
Our entire legal system is based on the Mosaic law. It is wrong to steal because God says it is wrong to steal. It is wrong to commit murder because God says it is wrong to commit murder. If this were not true, we would have no standard of measure to judge someone like Hitler or Saddam Hussein since they established their own laws allowing them to murder their own citizens.
No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Strongly Agree
I never signed the blanket permission forms that were sent home with our kids to allow school officials to administer or approve any medical treatment. It is vital that parents have the opportunity to consent before any medicine or treatment is given to their children. No employee of a public school should administer a mental diagnosis or treatment to any student. Nor should any school employee give reproductive diagnosis or treatment to any child.
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.
Strongly Agree
I totally agree that no school official should ever participate in promoting any type of mental illness, including gender dysphoria. It is inappropriate tor educators to use incorrect pronouns and to teach students to practice the incorrect use of English grammar. Nor should any employee be involved in any way with physically altering a student for the purpose of "sexual transitioning".
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Photo ID is required for almost every aspect of our society including driving a vehicle, obtaining welfare, obtaining housing, etc. It is not reasonable to say that any person can not obtain photo identification in the State of Texas.
