RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
In any circumstance, a medical doctor who is licensed to do so makes that determination with their patient.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
Planned Parenthood primarily provides reproductive health other than abortion to low-income individuals that have insufficient or no health insurance.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
Every citizen has the right to decide how and where they live. A doctor having education and license to give their medical opinion should help their patient develop a care plan that is right for them. The state should never have a say in any patient's healthcare plan.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
I would give rebates and incentives to mental healthcare doctors to encourage them to help with the mental healthcare crisis. I would limit redundant taxes.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I would reduce politicians' salaries and budgets for things not contributing to the betterment of the state. Limit tax funding to for-profit schools that charge tuition.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Agree
Quality education is the right of all South Carolinians and we should be investing in it.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
If an individual or business provides a service that discriminates against people based on their religion, they are probably in the wrong line of work. Businesses should not discriminate against anyone. If you feel your religion is telling you to discriminate against a group of people or persons, then it is not wise to start a public business or be employed somewhere public-facing.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The government and churches should be completely separate. Leaders should be held responsible if a church harms members or the public. Everyone is free to believe and worship how they wish as long as it doesn't impede the rights of its members or the public.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. Healthcare is a right for all people in the United States and should be codified in the constitution. Anyone that wants to pay health insurance companies should be able to, but those who can't should still be able to get emergency and routine healthcare of any kind with no worry of what bills to forgo or if they will be able to work enough to afford it.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
In the interest of the public health government, schools or employers should be allowed to require all health and safety measures to keep the public safe from preventable disease. If there is a chance that someone could spread a deadly or debilitating illness to their coworkers or the public, they should be required to take all possible steps to prevent it or stay home.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
There are many kinds of terrorism and terrorists worldwide, and radical Islamic factions are a small part. As a soldier who has fought in the global war on terror, I know that being Muslim doesn't make a terrorist. Mentally ill people of any faith or faction create terror. As a society, we must embrace all religious and cultural groups, including Muslims, to help find terrorists before they can hurt anyone. Our best chance against terrorism is to support and watch each other's back. Now more than ever, we need each other to stop the political and criminal radicalization of anyone so that domestic terror events stop happening.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Neutral
I think all people are entitled to freedom and all rights to it. I don't know enough about the details in that conflict to take actions that do not directly support human rights.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Disagree
I have spent a lot of time on the southern border and it is secure. Our border patrol does a really good job down there. Any new walls or fencing is a waste of tax payer money and only serves to inhibit the legal rights of sovereign Native American tribes whos land lays across the border with part in Mexico and Part in the United States. The current issue is the influx of people going to legal border crossings and asking for asylum. We need to develop a better more efficient way to cross.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Anyone should be allowed to legally immigrate to the U.S. if they agree to obey our laws and wish to be a productive member of our society.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
I agree that families should be able to choose which school their children go to. I don't believe for-profit and/or religious schools should get any public tax money. Our taxes should support the public schools that allow anyone to attend regardless of financial status or religion. We should be funding and building the curriculum for public schools to make them the best education available anywhere in our country for all our children.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Disagree
We should not prioritize one religion over others and should not allow religion to dictate our laws. Our government was set up to function without religious interference and should be left that way. Morality is not built by religion, and neither is the law. That is why we make government laws so that our citizens don't have to conform to one person or group's opinion of morality. Judeo-Christian values differ from church to church. Our laws should not.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Agree
Everyone has the right to live and not be discriminated against. It's not up to other people to identify anyone else. People present themselves to society as they are. We have no right to question or discriminate against it. It is irrelevant to society what a person wants their name to be, how they want to dress, or what medical care they agree on with their doctor. We must accept every person as they are because that is the correct moral thing to do.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is only god-ordained to the people getting married and their chosen religion's god. No government has the right to dictate religion to anyone, nor does it have the right or ability to question who god-ordains or not. If any people want to fill out the legal paperwork to be married, the state has no right to question them. Anyone working for a government whose religion can't recognize someone else's should be fired.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Critical Race Theory is a talking point made by political sensationalists who want to divide our community. No schools anywhere are teaching that United States institutions are fundamentally racist. Our schools should teach the truth that racism was legal in the United States from before its inception to only recently in the 1970s. Our community members still remember it because they went to school during that time. The only way to move past and not repeat it is to talk about it.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am the son and grandson of Methodist ministers. I am a Christian and believe that god loves and accepts every person no matter who they are or what religion they are. I believe in the words of the bible and not what is interpreted from them. My core values are kindness, understanding and protection of family, community and humanity.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Agree
There should be a way to identify a voter without requiring only one type of identification. Some in our community don't have or can't get photo identification and still have a legal right to vote if qualified as per the constitution.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I would make election day a state holiday. I will keep polls open for two weeks before elections and make more polling stations or ballot boxes to make sure everyone gets an opportunity to vote. Mail-in voting has been safe in several states for over 20 years. South Carolina should make an effort to develop a security program. We should register students who will be 18 before election day to vote in schools.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. Racism has been offered as a reason for several mass shootings in the U.S., and many people in my community feel like racism against them exists in their town. Over the last six years, political divisiveness has allowed racism to play a significant role in political organizations, feeding domestic terrorism.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Neutral
I don't know how that program works. Still, I know that slavery and racism must be acknowledged, and some formal apology should be given to descendants of slavery and racial violence against their ancestors. We must admit it to make it right.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
I believe that stricter environmental laws and regulations create jobs and grow the economy by evolving industry and creating new forms of income. We cannot pay money to erase pollution and environmental impact, but we can find better ways to produce things and do business that makes our state livable to humans longer.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Disagree
There are many ways to extract oil and gas that do not require poisoning our citizens and environment. The future must be finding alternative energy sources and methods to produce electricity. We, as a state, need to transition from oil and gas now.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The general purpose of the government is to protect our freedoms and fight threats both foreign and domestic. The government serves at the pleasure of the governed and they have no authority to make laws against the wishes of the majority population of voters.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Liberal
Every person in the United States has the freedom to think and do what they want with their lives as long as it doesn't impede the rights of anyone else.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Did not answer
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No NEVER. I never have, nor will I ever engage in sexual misconduct. I find those who do despicable.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
Our representatives are not elected to do what they think is right. They are representatives of the community, and it is their sworn duty to do what the community thinks is right. Any representative who attempts to exert their opinions or beliefs on the law should be impeached and charged. You cannot represent those in your community who you disregard and ignore.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Agree
Qualified immunity only works when the departmental policy reasonably protects the citizens above all else. No person should be killed for running away from a policeperson or not stopping for a police car. Those are crimes, but not a death sentence. Police that kills or maim anyone when their own life is not in danger should be prosecuted.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
We need all of those programs. We need to divert budget surpluses such as from this year and stop needless spending to stop the mental health crisis and support community programs. Strong mental healthcare makes it easier for police to keep our communities safe.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We need more extended and better background checks. Police need to be able to stop people concealing or openly carrying weapons when they have probable cause. Anyone convicted of any violent felony or misdemeanor should not be able to carry a gun. It is our right to own guns and our responsibility to regulate them to protect the community.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Neutral
I think there are too many situations to make that a blanket statement. I do believe gun manufacturers have some responsibility for who they sell the guns similar to alcohol distributors or pharmaceutical companies.
