OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

In all circumstances when the medical procedure is sought and performing the procedure does not conflict with the law.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Disagree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Agree

I support patient autonomy, including access to palliative or noncurative care for people who request it.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

I would support tax code changes encouraging US-based corporations operating internationally to bring profits back to the US without excessive penalties.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

State budgets - especially Nevada's must be balanced. The federal government may not always be able to balance its budget. I would support examining federal defense spending more closely. At the federal level, "riders" are often used to disguise massive or controversial spending. I would support an initiative that would isolate defense spending into a single bill that could not be amended with "riders" that don't have a direct connection to national defense.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Neutral

College should be accessible to anyone who is willing to attain that level of education.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Neutral

It depends on what services are being provided.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

When doing so is in accord with due process and compelling state interest.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

Basic primary care is a human right. Ensuring everyone has access to primary care has a compounding benefit to the public. Everyone should have access to healthcare without fear that a severe accident or significant illness will bankrupt an individual or family. The more excellent question is, why is it so expensive? Healthcare should be affordable and accessible. A single-payer system saves money because it eliminates a giant bureaucratic middle layer. Private insurance companies have created this massive middle layer to "manage" costs over providing care. But, again, if the prices were reasonable, this would be less of a concern. Ultimately, there is a middle point where government and providers could meet to ensure equitable access and affordable costs.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Our government derives its power from the consent of the governed. The government's primary purpose is to secure safety and property. When the general public's safety is at risk and vaccines reduce that - then it's up to the government to see to the health of the whole. To be clear - no individual shall be forced to take a vaccine. However, their individual choice should not be accommodated if the public risk outweighs the individual expression of medical autonomy.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

Stay vigilant, and gather intelligence.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Neutral

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Neutral

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

As Ronald Reagan said, immigration should not be so difficult to be practically xenophobic. Anyone should be welcome to become an American. It is our diverse culture that has made America a world power. Open borders - no - reasonable immigration laws - yes. And those who can meet simple requirements should be invited to live, work, and support our common welfare.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Neutral

I support due process and law. Our democracy requires educated citizens, and it is the government's duty to ensure that basic education is available to all. For people with resources to pay for private schools - by all means. But the taxation to support public education is as important as funding roads. The value of good schools to a community is not just for my kids or your kids, it's for all our kids for all time.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

Our system of limited government was inspired during the Enlightenment. Notions of human reasoning provided the framework for a system of self-government.

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Choose not to answer

Judicial determinations of "class" with regard to civil rights have thresholds that determine the level of scrutiny courts use to establish the constitutionality of laws. The burden of proof shifts based on the compelling state interest in enforcing laws. If gender identity meets the threshold for the various classes, then the burden of proof should shift accordingly.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Strongly Disagree

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Neutral

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Neutral

Department policy that permits violating civil rights should not immunize police officers. If such a policy is in place - the department should be held accountable.

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

I strongly support providing police with mental health professionals to assist them in protecting the public. With more mental health support for communities - officer-involved shootings would go down, and people with mental health concerns would get better assistance.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Did not answer

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
