QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Choose not to answer

There are many nuances to that statement, and none of it has anything to do with serving on the school board; other than that students in school deserve to learn in a safe environment, free of the threat of physical violence.

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

Provide emotional support

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Separation of church and state is not a constitutional principle. Teachers should teach content. Behavior should meet socially acceptable standards. Everyone should be treated with respect.

ECONOMY

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

It is the government's role, federal, state, and local, to fund public education. It is necessary at all levels to insure that children in localities and states with limited resources get a quality education. Funding should be provided for Pre-K through college for those unable to afford the cost. Education is the great equalizer. The cost of a quality education is much less that the cost of supporting those that do not have one.

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Neutral

There are cases in favor of student loan forgiveness, such as teachers, nurses, doctors and others in public service who choose to work in economically disadvantaged areas. Those areas typically pay lower wages, making loan repayment impossible, and dissuading those professions from choosing to work there.

IMMIGRATION

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.

Agree

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Disagree

School is a place for academic learning. It makes sense, in economically disadvantaged area where health-care providers are not available in the community, for schools to allow providers to meet students there. But healthcare is not in the purview of the schools. They should not be offering advice or services. The services should be provided by the county heath department if requested by families or students that do not have access to care.

Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Strongly Agree

I no longer believe in suspension, either in-school or out-of-school. However, students who repeatedly disrupt the learning environment need to be removed to an alternative setting, where they are required to complete their work, and receive support in learning how to make better choices. Students who are not in school are more likely to be in trouble. All students need an education to provide them hope for a better future.

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Agree

Cultivating American patriotism should be an honest discussion of the history of the United States; the good and the bad. We are the greatest nation on earth, even with our flaws. Pretending those flaws do not, or did not, exist does not encourage patriotism. Once young people realize they were lied to, or that the truth was not discussed, they begin to doubt. An honest open debate of US history will lead most people to appreciate that we are still the greatest nation on earth.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Disagree

The US Department of Education has very little input on local school policy; and that is as it should be. DOE oversees Title 1 and other such programs that provide funding for economically disadvantaged districts. Again, it is less expensive to educate than to support the citizens in those areas.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

That is not a question that is a statement. I believe students should be taught human anatomy and the reproductive system; that abstinence is the only 100% foolproof form of birth control; that no means no; how pregnancy happens; and the stages of pregnancy and fetal development. It should all be taught, as it was when I was young, as "the facts of life"; scientifically, not through a moral or religious lens.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

Social Emotional Learning (starting in pre-k, for those who come to school not having learned how to get along with others and how to manage their emotions. Failure to develop those skills at a very early age will prevent everyone in the room from learning) Language Arts (since you left out reading, which is necessary for all the rest) Mathematics Science American History World History (left out) Civics (high school) Physical Fitness Art & Music (and drama) Personal Finances (high school)

Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.

Strongly Agree

School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.

Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.

Strongly Disagree

Teachers and administrators are not law enforcement. Unless you do that every day and train accordingly, you are not prepared to make split-second decisions; such as evaluating whether you can hit the shooter or are going to hit one of the 100 students on the other side of the shooter. If students thought there are faculty that are armed, there are students who would try to overcome a faculty member and take their weapon. Many students are not afraid of anything. We need less guns in schools

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

I might have missed a primary in there somewhere, but I don't think so.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

VALUES

Biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Christian. I grew up in the Moravian Church and have remained an active member. The Moravian Church has a motto: In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty and in all things love.

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

I support the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

Neutral

That is two diametrically opposing statements. I do not support all the teachings of Dr. King. I do support the statement that "people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin."

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Agree

Marriage is religious sacrament. Our Constitution guarantees us freedom of religion. It is not up to the government to dictate religious practices. Whether or not the government has any business making laws regarding who lives with whom is a political matter.

Mental health conditions such as anorexia and gender dysphoria need to be treated, not affirmed.

Neutral

I am not a mental health professional, and have no standing to weigh into this.

School library books that have literary value, as determined by experts, should be exempt from obscenity laws.

Neutral

Who are the experts? The Supreme Court hedged on defining pornography, but said they know it when they see it. I think that is a fair standard. If parents want to introduce their children to literature that stretches the values of most in the community, that is within their right. Whether that literature should be in a public library or school library, paid for by We The People is open for debate.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Providing a photo ID is required to gain access to countless privileges in our society. They are relatively easy to come by. In the event someone left theirs home when they went to vote, they should be allowed to cast a provisional ballot, to be confirmed upon presentation of ID.
