What is the function of the local school board?
Wake County Board of Education (“Board”) is the governing body that supervises all matters pertaining to the Wake County Public School System (“WCPSS”). Only when in session does the Board have governing authority. The Board has the following responsibilities: 1) Provide the leadership to WCPSS ; 2) Provide quality, unbiased education to all WCPSS students ; 3) Hire the WCPSS Superintendent and evaluate his or her effectiveness in providing students a quality, unbiased education. ; 4) Manage the operating and the capital expenditure budgets of WCPSS, currently $3 billion. ; 5) Plan for future growth needs of the school system ; 6) Advocate for all students at other government entities for things that will provide them a quality, unbiased education ; 7) Create and implement policies for WCPSS students and staff.

No
Exercising 1st amendment rights to speak and voice support or opposition is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Any organization that calls parents "domestic terrorist" is abusing its authority.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
NC statutes guide public school curriculum standards. Local school boards select the curriculum that is to be used. This should be done with feedback and consideration from parents and teachers. Curriculum that has shown year over year decline in student proficiency should no longer be used.

A parent knows and understands the needs of his/her child better than anyone. Furthermore, the parent is responsible for the guidance of his/her child. For a successful educational journey, the parent, student and teacher must be involved.

I grew up in Cary, graduated from Wake County Public Schools and received my Bachelor of Science from NCSU. I am a long-time resident of District 4, where my children attend school. I have been an active PTA member and school volunteer. When the governor closed schools, all my children started struggling with basic subjects. I was frustrated that the Board sat in utter silence as my kids received limited educational assistance during “remote learning”. And when school finally went back in person on a limited basis, several times they were denied access to their education, receiving no support. Also, I was no longer allowed on campus to volunteer. It was time to get involved and bring back quality education, parental rights and ensure the board’s fiscal responsibility.
