RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Unintended pregnancies as a result of rape, incest, or proof of untenable damage to the fetus, danger to the mother... I feel that it is up to the woman to choose to whether to terminate her pregnancy. Late-term abortions are rare and are always due to emergencies.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Disagree

Planned Parenthood's primary mission is women's health. I believe that the campaign to close them down is based on religious indoctrination, false flag conspiracies, and misinformation.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Agree

I am a survivor of inoperable lung and bladder cancer. I have been with fellow patients whose pain was 24/7. They begged to die. But they had to die slowly. I was lucky, thanks to the VA, UAB, and medical SCIENCE.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Neutral

Tough question. If we are to be a nation of laws, the laws must be obeyed. I am a strong adherent of the separation of church and state. I really doubt that this is a major issue. I have very religious friends and family who would think that your Religious Liberty question is absurd. This is America, not Iran.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

I will say that today, major churches are also among the nation's largest holders of real estate, and real estate is one of the best conduits for money laundering. I question the motives of any church leader who mixes politics with religion. I feel that oligarchs have infected organized religion. In answer to the question, if a religion advocates animal sacrifice, maybe it needs closing down. I see no other circumstances to close down a church.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

This is a false flag. The real threat of terrorism is not coming from a peaceful religion, it's coming from religious oligarchs that have taken over the religion. The same situation is occurring in certain Christian sectors in America.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

I am fortunate to have 100% of my healthcare through the Veterans Administration. I feel all Americans should have the same benefits. They work their entire lives (versus my 4 years) contributing to their communities, schools, churches, and as voters, to the security of our country. Insurance began as community "pools" to help the less fortunate. Where I live, I've seen people die of poverty... and it was not their fault that they were poor. I have relatives who've lost everything because of medical bills. In my state, you're not eligible for Medicaid if you earn more than $18K for a single person. In fact, my state has consistently voted against Medicaid expansion.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

When science says it's the best or only way to save lives.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Tax the wealthy the same as the rest of us are taxed. Especially tax capital gains.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Hold the Department of Defense accountable. There are currently almost 5-million citizen defense contractors who work as little as 3 hours a day from their homes studying contracts, checking schedules, etc. Starting pay: $65,000. Average pay, mid 100 thousands.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Agree

This was standard until the mid-1980s with state colleges. Then banking and consumer protections were deregulated. Nowadays, student debt exceeds $1-trillion. Who really benefits? The lenders. Today, college textbooks cost more than tuition 30 years ago.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Neutral

Put yourselves in the shoes of the people who have traveled by foot thousands of miles through all conditions to escape violence, corruption, joblessness, and hunger. Most illicit drugs, according to the DEA are flown in or shipped in by sea. Our borders are well scrutinized by drones, internet, GPS

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Humans who are seeking greater opportunities, fleeing from violence, corruption, hunger, climate change, war, famine, crime...

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Neutral

My state requires teachers to continue education or receive ongoing professional development credits after certification. Most religiously affiliated private schools do not require teachers to be state certified.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Neutral

I generally agree with this, but bad apples are bad apples and they need consequences.

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Disagree

But there should be funding for mental health and community programs. I also would advocate that each department have an available on-call mental health worker, or training of the officers to handle mental health issues.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

The same as obtaining a drivers license, plus certified training on handling a weapon.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Neutral

Just look at the way they advertise their products. If they are glorifying an assault-type weapon and some wacko goes for the hype, then I think the advertiser should be brought to court to let a jury decide.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

Overall, I think the most important purpose of government is protection, which includes national security, personal security (i.e., laws that prevent harm & crime), safe infrastructure, care for the sick and elderly, and corporate regulation so that things like airplanes, semi-trucks, medications, and products & premises are safe. Our government should give us the best foundation for achieving freedom and happiness. This requires equal opportunity and safety.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Liberal

Our priority should be the absence of poverty, the prevalence of health, the efficiency of public schools—not by the number of millionaires and billionaires who have unreined control and power over politics and opinions.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

My Facebook pages should give you a good look at where I'm coming from. My life is an open book.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

Never had a problem.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I'm simply a concerned human being, tired of feeling helpless to see what has been unfolding ever since the rise of the Tea Party and worse. We can clearly see the Republican travesty in the nation’s capital, and the ripple effects that result in decisions based on anything but our common good here at home. I’ve learned that politics begins with "local." District 27 needs very serious fixing. Too many issues are being ignored by my opponent. Marshall County is rife with political corruption, including shell real estate corporations, good old boy favors, and worse. We have people without safe drinking water, washed-out roads, and lack of adequate nutrition and health care. We have meth labs, dog fight operators, and low-paying jobs. We have teachers quitting their jobs due to burnout and inadequate tools. The democrats didn't cause this.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

Judeo-Christian values are part of our culture, but not necessary for limited government. Laws, regulations and policies are what's necessary. For my opponent to profess his Christian faith so often, it’s astonishing to see the pleas from people suffering or caregivers fall on deaf ears. And he repeats falsehoods to advance his agenda.

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

I don't know what this question means.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Disagree

It is a legal union between two human beings. Why should "plumbing" matter? Marriage is more than having sex.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

This is a false flag raised first by Steve Bannon, who I'm sure will go to prison for sedition. Critical race theory does not say that any one race is better or worse than another. It merely says that white people tend to benefit from existing social and legal systems in the U.S. -- and that removing disparities requires changing those systems, not just individual people’s hearts and minds.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was born into the Jewish faith. As I grew older I asked myself, Whose voice am I following? Is it to be the “good me,” or the "authentic me?" We’re raised to see ourselves as others see us. We must allow ourselves to break out of our roles as “good boys” or “good girls” and be ourselves, not what others want our images to be. I believe all life is connected and should be respected. And yes, I believe in God, or as our indigenous people say, The Great Spirit.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

Having been a poll worker for several years, this is really a dumb question.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

We have very effective voting laws on the books. Voter fraud results in extremely harsh penalties, and almost all those who have attempted or succeeded in committing voter fraud have been caught and consequences. Odd that it's been mostly republicans who've been caught at it.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Yes. Amendment One allows hate speech and hate speech foments violence towards innocent others. Jan. 6 is a fine example of the results of racism and phony conspiracies.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Neutral

Reparations—a system of redress for egregious injustices—are not foreign to the United States. Native Americans have received land and billions of dollars for various benefits and programs for being forcibly exiled from their native lands. For Japanese Americans, $1.5 billion was paid to those who were interned during World War II. Additionally, the United States, via the Marshall Plan, helped to ensure that Jews received reparations for the Holocaust.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

B. Stricter environmental laws and regulations are already fueling greater employment opportunities in all sectors of the economy.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Neutral

For now, yes, I support this. But the climate crisis is real and I would encourage big energy to explore sustainable solutions for the future. For example, abandoned coal mines can be repurposed to provide hydro energy from wastewater. It's being done in Australia.
