QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Roe. v. Wade had set out the circumstances under which abortion should be allowed. Pennsylvania has this in place for the last 50 years. Abortions are legal through the 23rd week of pregnancy. Public funding was only available in cases of life endangerment , rape or incest. This had been settled law, and was the result of the Supreme Court decision which sought to balance the woman's right of privacy and the impending rights of the yet unborn. I support this law, and a woman's right to make this most important, personal, and spiritual decision for herself. In cases of incest, rape or life threatening situations, it is apparent that this right must be upheld. The recent case of the 10 year old, a victim of rape, having to travel to another state is evidence of theunjust consequences of laws which seek to remove the right to make decisions with one's own body.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
Planned Parenthood does not receive federal funding for abortion procedures. Planned parenthood provides many other needed and essential services in reproductive health to those who might not have access to health or informational services otherwise. I strongly support Planned Parenthood.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Neutral
This covers a wide variety of situations, without adequate definition. In general, I would prefer to see more mental health support for those who are struggling than legalize any resort to suicide. For an individual who is suffering, and already terminal, there may be room for a legal approach which does not punish individuals for allowing or assisting in end of life.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
There should not be a scenario where billionaires and large corporations do not pay any sort of tax. Therefore, the enormous loopholes which enable them to escape any taxation while their workers making 10 dollars an hour are paying a significant portion of their income in taxes, is one of obvious inequity.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
There is an incredible amount of bureaucratic waste in government that allows our representatives lavish expenses. However, we can do better to work smarter without waste, and also devote resources to the needs of the citizens. I believe that if we invest in people, it will in the end, enhance the bottom line. For example, getting ahead of health crisis (as with Covid) could be possible with taking proactive, rather than reactive policy.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Neutral
Some education should be funded through college. We have the ability to allow everyone an education at the community college level and for the various trades. Obviously the expense of the ivy league school is not available to most, but these universities have large endowments that make it possible for individuals of talent and certain gifts to be able to attend. Education helps create a workforce that has the technical skills we need to excel in the future.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
There is an assumption made in the question that assumes the respondent is in agreement with the Citizens United decision. I do not. Corporations are entities engage in commerce for profit. They themselves are a fictional entity which has one goal- to make money , but does not have a religious or moral code per se. Individuals can decide for themselves their code of conduct, or their religion, and no one , or governmental entity should interfere. Church and state should remain separate.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Government cannot close a church. Government can prosecute individuals who knowingly break the law. If they are involved in church, but are involved in criminal activity, they are individually held responsible. The separation of church and state should be inviolate. Government should not tell anyone what to beleive, nor should individuals impose their beliefs on others.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
B
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
When the circumstances are such that it serves the emergency purpose of preventing massive death and severe illness, in the case of extremely communicable illnesses. Employers who themselves are healthcare providers can impose restrictions such as vaccinations when to not do so, is clearly a public health threat. This issue was not a political one until now. Most of us were required to get vaccinated for school, and college for illnesses of the past- measles , mumps, polio - that had been dangerous before the vaccines were developed, but largely irradicated by the vaccine. The cynicism of this time in our history, has made this an issue. However, the loss of life during this epidemic points to the need for proactive action in the face of over a million deaths from Covid in the US alone.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
This is not a subject for a Pa state senator. I would address our national representatives on this.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Neutral
I am running for a state office, and therefore, would decline to address this issue.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Agree
For the health and safety of those crossing as well. however, not a state issue.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Not a state issue.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Disagree
I support school choice. However, government supplies public schools- these should be supported. If you exercise your right to send your children to an alternative school, that is your choice, but I do not agree that the government should pay for it. We need to devote our resources to improving the very best education for all in that system.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Choose not to answer
We are a country of many religious beliefs. We were founded on the idea of religious tolerance and respect. Secondly, I have no idea of what this question is actually asking
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Agree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Disagree
God does not make laws. People do. Laws change over time due to divergence of thought.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Choose not to answer
That is an incorrect statement about what CRT actually is.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe in personal integrity, honesty and service.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Agree
Photo id laws presently being proposed in PA are clearly meant to turn away valid voters on the election day, or to make it difficult for those to do it by mail in ballot. It is intended to discourage people from voting, viewed as less likely to vote a certain way. It is cloaked in a false claim of voter fraud to achieve a desired end of keeping a segment of the citizenry from choosing their representatives.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I think that we have the means to determine definitely that votes are cast appropriately with the technology we have today. I do not believe in making voting difficult for those with disabilities, travel issues, rural residence, urban (with no drivers license) , and the elderly. Ballot by mail is quite workable with the ability we have to make sure that it is one vote, one person.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. The rise of racist groups is a violent threat to our security.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Agree
Reparations were supposed to have been given, and the government reneged. Our country should not violate their own agreements.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
How about enforcing the laws we have?
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Disagree
