OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Choose not to answer

Does not relate to my position on the school board.

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Choose not to answer

Does not relate to my position on the school board.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Choose not to answer

Does not relate to my position on the school board.

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Agree

If we did NOT use our current organization as a liaison for what is going on in the state, I feel we would have to have a dedicated staff member who could keep us up to date of new bills that relate to our legislative priorities. As a member of the Legislative & Policy committee, I have seen the depth of knowledge and advice we have in pushing our priorities forward.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Did not answer

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

This applies to any and all religions.

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Agree

We do not have a policy against this, and our schools actively purchase from vendors such as Chik Fil A.

Students should not be allowed to pray in school.

Strongly Disagree

Students should continue to be free to pray alone or in groups, as long as the prayers are not disruptive and do not infringe upon the rights of others.

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

22.1.7 of the Virginia Code outlines everything better that I would ever be able to describe. In a nutshell, we direct where funding goes, are in charge of hiring/retaining our superintendent, handle appeals for the district, set policy, and are the eyes and ears of the community for which we represent.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The state should continue to provide guidelines and benchmarks- however, it is no secret that Virginia is home to some of the lowest statewide standards in the country. We must not aim to meet standards, but aim to exceed standards in all areas. I believe school systems should have the autonomy to set curriculum for certain curriculums, especially for our specialized electives and vocational programs.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents should only be restricted if personal information of a student is shared.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

In a diverse school system like Loudoun, it would be irresponsible for me to rank these subject areas, as each students has a unique set of needs and priorities. We must ensure we are strong in all subject areas that we teach so that no student is left behind.

American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.

Neutral

No solid opinion on this topic.

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Disagree

I have no issues with parents opting their kids out of FLE (Family Life Education) or SEL if they so desire- we have ways to opt out currently. I do not support an opt-in. Our current SEL lessons educate kids on the importance of teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, and more. As a volunteer substitute teacher, I have led these lessons and have seen their value.

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Agree

Local control is extremely important- if done correctly.

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Choose not to answer

I am not familiar with these 3 curricula listed and would need far more time than I have available to deeply research them.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Does not relate to my position on the school board.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Did not answer

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Did not answer

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Did not answer

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Choose not to answer

Does not relate to my position on the school board.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

This is currently our practice.

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Disagree

This attempts to be a blanket question while there are multiple variables involved. Say we have an 18 year old high school student who is old enough to make decisions on their own and chooses to transition or use new names/pronouns. Why would we not support that student and use the names/pronouns they desire?

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Choose not to answer

Does not relate to my position on the school board.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

Did not answer

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Did not answer

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

I am the only board member currently serving to never seek a party endorsement.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Did not answer

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Did not answer

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Strongly Disagree

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

Did not answer

I support mask mandates.
