QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
My personal position is to allow for the performance of an abortion in cases of rape & incest, the mother's life at risk, or at the mother's request up to the 7-week point. While this is my personal position, I have stated clearly within my website that I propose having statewide referendums which bracket the positions into; No abortions, up to 7 weeks, Up until the first trimester, or at Anytime at the mother's request. This allows the will of the people, and not politicians adhering to their specific PACs and/or special interest groups to make the final decision.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
This is not a function of the Government to provide funds for personal medical expenses.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
Situations exist in which an adult has previously stated his/her desires in the event that end-of-life decisions are needed, and those desires should be honored. Additionally, those incapacitated to point of no return should be a candidate for euthanasia as stipulated by the next-of-kin.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under this country's Freedom of Religion, and individual should never be forced by the Government to violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Never, the Freedom of Religion is a fundamental American principle.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Stop abandoning countries and breaking promises (like the current US leadership did in Afghanistan) and try to rebuild trust and foster trade among the more moderate leaders in areas of the world where terrorism continues to flourish.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
Israeli stance is currently acceptable and necessary to continue their existence. A change otherwise would introduce tremendous instability into the region.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Never, other than the time-tested battery of childhood vaccines, and in medical and healthcare facilities where bodily fluids and high concentrations of weak/unhealthy patients exist.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Elimination of grocery taxes to eliminate this regressive tax should occur immediately in Alabama to help partially offset the tremendous inflation which we have all just gone through. Higher income earners should be subject to a minimally higher rate of taxation. No further gasoline tax increases should be allowed.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Immediately get the state out of the Primary/Runoff election process and require each party to propose their own method (caucus or convention) of candidate selection. State would only fund statewide General Election and special elections as needed. Immediately stop the outflow of lottery dollars to surrounding states through the creation of a state-wide lottery system to secure additional funds for the state school system and the General Fund. Also, a comprehensive review of all state funding requirements with an initial objective of a 5-10% in statewide reduction in expenditures.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
College funding represents an unnecessary expansion of the Government and is yet another shift toward socialism as is present in other socialist/communist countries. It is a concept which fails to reinforce the American dream of choosing your direction in life and making achievements in life as they are earned.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Current illegal immigration numbers are ridiculous and requires immediate attention.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
An orderly and consistent immigration from any and every friendly country on earth is necessary for the U.S. to maintain a healthy and growing economy. To address some special surge employment needs, work visas may be issued with specific time limits subject to review and renewal as appropriate.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
Parents are the key in their children's lives. A voucher system helps parents acquire quality education for their children and motivates failing schools to improve or shut down.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
Only exception is when officers use excessive actions beyond departmental policy.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Funding for mental health programs need to be independently funded and not at the expense of police departments.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Existing restrictions in relation to fully automatic weapons are sufficient. Second Amendment rights are to be protected.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
Suing manufacturers is simply a get rich scheme for lawyers. For cases of vehicular homicide, should the victim's family be able to sue the car manufacturer? For knife victims, should the knife manufacturer be sued? Other absurd examples could be stated, but in the end, it is always the human-in-the-loop who is responsible and should be liable for damages.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
National defense and ensure the overall freedoms and liberties of American citizens.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Choose not to answer
A Libertarian does not fit into these traditional categories. A Libertarian is socially more liberal than most, and economically more conservative than most.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Press reports have been published on Alabama News (LocalToday.com), Alabama Political Reporter, Athens News Courier, and Alabama Today. Validation may also be seen on LPAlabama.org.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I am a retired engineer, not a lawyer/politician. I am the worst enemy of lobbyists and PACs since I have accepted none of their campaign money and never will. Every single vote I make will be in the best interests of Alabama. It is absolutely imperative to return Alabama to the voters and not continue to be run by the political machine and career politicians down in Montgomery. The grocery tax needs to be terminated immediately to help all the lower income and middle income citizens facing a staggering increase in grocery bills. By implementing an "Initiatives and Referendums" process into the Alabama political system, where voters will be able to submit and vote on issues important to them, and not rely on the career politicians which cater to their base support, PACs, and special interest groups. The citizens should be allowed to immediately vote on a constitutional amendment to legalize a statewide lottery and provide most of that revenue to improve the state's school system and partially to the general fund. To make other improvements to the political system, term limits for state legislators must be implemented to eliminate career politicians and reduce the excessive cronyism currently present. Finally, the state needs to get out of the primary/runoff election business and just pay for the final General Election expenses, leaving the political parties to fend for themselves.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
The Judeo-Christian ethics and morals used to define this country's constitution and laws, forms the basis of a civilized society. Specific areas such as same-sex marriage and abortion should not be controlled by the Government, but to be consistent, allow God to judge each person's heart.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Unnecessary, all citizens are currently protected sufficiently.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Disagree
True love between two adults should not be judged by any earth-bound religious organization or political body. Couples have a right to marry each other without the Government's intervention into their private lives.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Absolutely absurd. Slavery has existed throughout world history and has seen multiple races subjugated and is not some master plan perpetuated by the founding fathers.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Firmly believe in God and Christian principles, and a home in heaven if God judges that my heart is right, but I do not believe in forcing any of my beliefs onto others, and even more strenuously object to anyone judging others' lives if they are trying their best.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
A photo ID is something that every citizen is able to obtain and provides a minimum verification standard to prevent/minimize voter fraud.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Consistency, photo ID at time of voting, eliminate drop boxes and maintain fixed start/stop times for voting.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes, the continuous slanted reported of mainstream media to inflame hatred and violent acts should stop. Only certain types of cross-race violence get elevated to the national attention while most same-race violence, while more prevalent, receives little to no coverage. Journalistic standards are non-existent and should be an area of investigation.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
No living citizens have been criminally disadvantaged by the Government, as is the requirement for true reparations to be a consideration.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. As is the position of most Libertarians, less Government is always better.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
Oil independence is paramount to national security.
