QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Agree
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Agree
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.
Strongly Agree
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
I strongly agree that government funding is essential for quality public education from Pre-K through college. This should ensure equity of instruction, resources, etc. despite socioeconomic status, ethnicity, or disabilities.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.
Strongly Agree
School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Ultimately, no one should discriminate against anyone because of their difference in beliefs, not just gay marriage. But those that believe that marriage is only the union between a man and a woman should not be discriminated against either. Neither belief should be forced on anyone.
Students should not be allowed to pray in school.
Strongly Disagree
Yes, I strongly believe that prayer should be allowed back in public schools. I believe this is and could be an additional arsenal, especially in the times we live in, for safer and secure schools. Prayer vigils AFTER the fact is too late!
EDUCATION
What is the function of the local school board?
The function of the local school board, along with the superintendent, should be to craft and establish the educational vision and goals for the public schools in the district. It should also set the standards for performance of the schools.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The state Board of Education should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources.
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
While all parents should have the freedom to speak. They should only be restricted when they become disruptive or threatening.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, American History, Physical Fitness, Personal Finances, Information Technology, Art and Music, Vocational Learning, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.
Strongly Agree
Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.
Strongly Agree
The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.
Agree
I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.
Agree
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian and believe in the teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The most fundamental value that I strive for consistently, is love for all people, in all areas of life.
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
It is simply unfair. Biologically, the sexes are different.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Parents should be the first teachers. In school, trained teachers and instructors should teach it age appropriately.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
In the following order and age appropriately - human anatomy/the reproductive system, Physical and emotional outcomes, consent, abstinence, contraceptive methods
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Strongly Agree
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.
Strongly Agree
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
I believe everyone should have a picture ID such as a driver's license.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Strongly Disagree
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
I am an Independent. I applied as such on my application to run for the School Board. I don't have any other public available information.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I simply want to serve and give back to the district, Chesapeake Public Schools, that served myself, my children and family over the years. This is my 3rd time running for this office, and every time my theme has been "It's All About the Children". I am a retired educator from CPS (16 years of service), my 2 children successfully graduated from CPS. I even have a grandchild who is in middle school in CPS. After I retired, I served as a full-time substitute teacher for 4 years...even during the Covid-19 pandemic. I am very much aware of all facets and experiences ....as a parent, grandparent, and educator. My 3 major concerns continue to be the following: #1 Equitable education for ALL STUDENTS regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic status, orspecial need/disability, #2 Teacher Raises and competitive pay to attract the best qualified educators. and retain the ones we have. #3 Safe and Secure schools
2ND AMENDMENT
Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
Strongly Disagree
I do not believe this is a good idea. Accidents may happen. I believe only security and police officers should carry guns at school. I also think this should not be.... yet another teacher responsibility in addition to everything else teachers are held accountable for!
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?
Whenever there are health concerns that effect the majority of our country such as the Covid-19...just as vaccinations such as MMR, chicken pox, TDAP, has been required for school attendance in the past. Religious and Health exemptions should continue to be considered.
I support mask mandates.
