RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Life is sacred and every human being has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Advances in technology clearly indicate that life begins at conception, which is why the argument has shifted from life to viability. But the taking of innocent life is immoral, whether that life can support itself independently or not. If a mother's life is in danger and the only way to save a life is to remove the child, an attempt should be made to preserve the life during removal rather than to proactively kill the child.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
If Roe v. Wade is overturned by the US Supreme Court, how far are you willing to go to roll back North Carolina's statutory abortion law that allows abortion up to 20 weeks?
I believe society should invest in adoption and resources for pregnant women. I do not support the execution of innocent children.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
Would you support a limitation on chemical abortion that protects women from taking abortion pills without the care and supervision of a qualified physician?
Yes
ECONOMY
The government should do more to close the gap between the working class and the wealthy.
Strongly Disagree
I believe the government is one of the chief contributors to the gap between the working class and the wealthy.
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
As a former tax attorney, I can attest that the tax code is full of loopholes negotiated by lobbyists and special interests. While that represents tremendous advocacy for certain people and groups, taxation should be fair and transparent. I'm in favor of lower taxes and something more akin to a flat tax with very limited exclusions. If the tax is low enough, exclusions aren't necessary and people will make the best decisions for themselves regarding their finances. I believe in maintaining a very low corporate tax, but believe that all companies should pay that tax and not be able to use creative accounting to avoid paying their share.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
Creation of entitlement programs jeopardizes the financial stability of our country. I am in favor of disbanding the Department of Education at a federal level because from a Constitutional perspective, education is more properly dealt with at the state level. Some of the best education I received during my college years was through holding a part-time job during the school year and full-time job during the summer in order to fund my education.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
"Moral" is a bit of a squishy standard which is why I can't "Strongly Disagree" with this statement. Some would believe it is immoral to serve a Democrat or Republican. Or a person based on race or nationality. That type of discrimination I do not agree with. But if there are situations where there is conflicts between someone's religious beliefs and another person's lifestyle/beliefs (e.g., a Satanist baker asked to make a John 3:16 cake), moral and religious beliefs should be respected.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
If there is clear evidence that a religious institution is providing cover for dangerous illegal activity (e.g., actual planned terrorism activity), this may be warranted. But this would need to be limited to very extreme circumstances.
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
The Constitution provides freedom from state-instituted religion and every individual has freedom of religion. However, individuals are allowed to bring "their whole self" to work, even if they work in government. There is no prohibition of religious thought or ideas influencing policy, etc. in the same manner that other ideologies or belief systems are not prohibited when determining such matters.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Government entitlement programs compromise the financial stability of the country. The Constitution doesn't enumerate a right to healthcare at the federal level. That is a matter that is properly delegated to the states. Voters in each state should determine what type of healthcare funding they believe is best. In that sense I would work to wean the United States off of funding federal healthcare programs and transition that decision to the states.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I strongly disagree with required vaccinations. Bodily autonomy is very important. As they say, "my body, my choice." Parents and individuals should be trusted with making the right decisions for themselves and their families. The vast majority of people will take standard, tested, and proven vaccines out of their own self-interest. Others have strong moral or religious conviction against all vaccines. The right to work and education should not be dependent on taking vaccinations.
EDUCATION
States should allow parents to use the Opportunity Scholarship Program to fund private school for their children.
Strongly Agree
School choice is essential to a healthy education system. Underperforming schools benefit from a captive clientele if parents do not have the ability to vote with their money. The Opportunity Scholarship Program should be flexible to assist students with obtaining the best possible education for their circumstances. Thus, the program should be able to be used to fund private and parochial school.
In what situations does a parent not have the right to know what their child is being taught in public school?
None.
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
If they are violent or have explicitly made threats. Otherwise, parents have the right to address school boards and other parents at school board meetings. Parents are an essential part of the education process and should be encouraged to be more involved, not less.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am Christian and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ as found in the Bible. I was born again on 8/11/18. That conversion changed my life, preserved my family, and causes me to stand for what I know to be right, even if I stand alone.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Voter ID preserves everyone's right to vote by assisting in the prevention of voter fraud. Some people claim Voter ID is racist; as an African American man I know that anyone who believes that one race is not intelligent enough to obtain photo ID while another is - that person is the true racist.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Present photo ID when voting. Audit voter rolls to make sure rolls only include eligible voters (e.g., residents of the state, not dead, etc.)
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is result of sinfulness of mankind. Racism or a fixation on segmentation and division by race (or any other characteristic) can lead to domestic unrest, as we have seen. Any ideology that attempts to segment and divide Americans should be discouraged.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. I believe in being a good steward of the earth, and doing our best not to refrain from polluting it, promote green spaces, ensure clean water and air, etc. My main concern with environmental laws is extremism and the deification of nature in ways that (a) don't really help from an environmental standpoint and (b) have severe consequences on people and are cost prohibitive to companies.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
People are endowed with natural rights from their Creator, chief among them are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Government exists to protect those rights from other people who would infringe on those rights.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I am focused on reading every word of every bill that comes my way. That is a monumental task, but too many harmful provisions have been slipped into too many bills and past unsuspecting politicians. Most recently, the appropriations bills signed by both the NC House and NC Senate which gave the state's health directors authority to quarantine and isolate whole "classes" of people based on the determination and opinion of such directors regarding the health risk posed to society. If we have learned anything from the past few years, mandates can and will be politicized and weaponized against people and it was unwise to grant this authority to state and community health directors.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
Qualified immunity is necessary to do that job. That does not mean police can act inconsistently with departmental policy or break that law, but it does allow officers peace of mind in often difficult situations.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
People with certain criminal records should not be able to buy guns. There should be certain age limits. Law enforcement agencies should share information and have more transparent information regarding people who have been in trouble with the law for background check purposes.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
We don't allow those injured by vaccines to sue Big Pharma (although we should). We don't allow those injured by drunk driving to sue alcohol manufactures. We don't allow those injured by de-fund the police movements to sue the de-fund police organizations, etc.
