OTHER INFORMATION
This candidate voted for H.R. 485, the Protecting Care for All Patients Act, which would prohibit federal health programs from using discriminatory measures known as Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs.) A vote for the bill is a pro-life position that indicates opposition to reducing or eliminating care for people with various disabilities and chronic conditions.
One of 149 House Republicans who voted for H.R. 3746, the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, which suspended the nation's debt limit through January 1, 2025. A vote for H.R. 3746 allows the government to spend without limitation for 19 months at an expected cost of $4 trillion. Source

QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Neutral
While I am not a proponent of abortion, Planned Parenthood does provide other services to women in lower-income brackets, and should not be totally stripped of funding. I am a firm believer in providing more options, outside of abortion, to expecting parents, and will continue to advocate for the beauty in every life as a proud parent of one, and soon to be two(!) beautiful girls.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Neutral
I have fought my own party to preserve access to mifepristone and other order-by-mail contraceptives, and do not believe an in-person appointment is required for prescribing these medications. Of course, we should be making sure that all drugs meet safety standards to prevent harm to those taking them.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I oppose any attempt to restrict access to abortion for women who have been victims of rape or incest, and similarly believe in access when the life or health of the mother is threatened.
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
I oppose a federal abortion ban and believe the federal government should do more to codify protections for fertility services and treatments.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
No one religious institution should be dictating the policy of the state. It does not mean no discussion of religion in the public domain.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
While we should not be forcing folks to sacrifice their Constitutional right to religious freedom, we cannot allow for unfettered discrimination to occur.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
America’s role is to lead the free world. In the words of Ronald Reagan, we must build peace through strength. During my term, I’ve worked to increase our military’s readiness and capability, helped provide critical aid to our allies and partners like Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine, and stood up to tyrants in Beijing and Moscow. My opponent voted against funding for the military on four separate occasions while he was in Congress. The contrast couldn’t be clearer.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
The Chinese Communist Party is, alongside Vladimir Putin and Iran, our most significant geopolitical foe in the world. We must confront them and ensure that they do not rise to take over as the world’s pre-eminent power. In Congress, I’ve supported legislation to uplift America and keep the CCP in check, and will continue to do so.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Israel is our closest ally, a multicultural democracy in a region starved of them, and a critical security partner in the Middle East. We must stand with them in their time of need and ensure they have the tools and funding they need not only to defend themselves, but to take the fight to foreign terror organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. While my opponent voted against Iron Dome funding on 4 separate occasions, I was proud to secure billions in aid for Israel.
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
The United States needs to do a better job of recruiting and retaining folks in the military. While many speculate about what the root cause of these issues are, I firmly believe that if we continue to increase pay for military members, including the historic pay raises I supported in last year and this year’s NDAAs, we can retain skilled soldiers that ensure we remain the greatest power in the world. My opponent voted against NDAAs four times, a no-vote on pay raises for military members.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Did not answer
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
We must do more to lower the cost of healthcare in this country. However, we must not shift to a single-payer plan totally controlled by the federal government.
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
The Fiscal Responsibility Act that we passed in 2023 establishes spending caps, helping prevent excessive government spending and getting our economy moving in the right direction again. However, we must deliver more tax relief to Americans.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Agree
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Securing our southern border is critical for the safety and security of our nation. President Biden’s open border policies, combined with the Sanctuary State and City policies of Governor Hochul and Mayor Adams, have created a national emergency. It’s time to take action. I’ve visited the border, spoken with our CBP agents, and helped pass legislation to secure the border. But we also need comprehensive immigration reform. Legal immigration strengthens America—we must fix this broken system now.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We need to reform our immigration process in order to ensure that we have a labor force that can fill the jobs needed here in this country, including the roles of doctors, nurses, and other trained individuals.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
It’s essential to provide parents with options, and every child should be entitled to a quality, affordable education. We’re blessed to live in the Hudson Valley, which is ripe with fantastic public schools, of which I’m a product, but we shouldn’t take other options off the table for parents who choose to send their kids to a school that aligns more with their values or vision for their child’s education. I do not support vouchers but have supported the Education Investment Tax Credit and do
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Neutral
While we should certainly encourage states and local communities to be more engaged in the educational process locally, outright eliminating the Department of Education, which plays an important role in fighting hate crimes on college campuses, including antisemitic ones, and establishing baseline standards for educational quality, may not be the best pathway forward.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Strongly Disagree. I strongly believe in the importance of funding law enforcement and giving them the tools they need to keep us safe. I have brought back tens of millions of dollars to the 17th District to help do that. My opponent, meanwhile, was a leading proponent of the defund the police movement in 2020.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe in the constitutional right to bear arms, but also support common sense gun safety, such as universal background checks, banning ghost guns, reauthorizing the Undetectable Firearms Act, and getting illegal guns off the street and out of the hands of people who are a danger to themselves or others. One of my top priorities is ensuring gun crime does not go unpunished - something that New York has an issue with due to a lack of funding for cops and foolish cashless bail laws.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.
Strongly Disagree
Supreme Court expansion would turn it completely into a kangaroo court, allowing presidential administrations to add as many justices as they want. It would become an absurdity, with no cap on how far people would go to ensure their worldview, and solely their worldview, was reflected on the Court. We need to make the Court less political, not more.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Conservative
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Did not answer
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Disagree
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Agree
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Roman Catholic
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
According to a recent poll conducted by Gallup, almost 80% of Americans believe in requiring photo ID in order to vote, including 84% of independents and 53% of Democrats. It’s a simple way to ensure that people voting are who they say they are, and if you need a photo ID to buy alcohol or cigarettes, why not for voting?
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Neutral
The Electoral College should be reformed to a system by which Electoral College votes are assigned based on a proportional share of Congressional Districts won by the state, in conjunction with a national ban on partisan gerrymandering. This would result in a more competitive race every four years and force candidates to take policy positions that appeal to a broad swathe of voters and campaign all across the country, rather than focusing on a small handful of states and a tiny group of voters.
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Disagree
I do not believe our institutions are fundamentally racist. I believe children should learn about our country’s history in ways that demonstrates that, while far from perfect in its history, America remains the greatest force for good, freedom, and democracy in the world.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Neutral
Climate change exists and should not be ignored, but we likewise cannot go overboard with mandates and ludicrous government regulations that will drive up the cost of energy to a degree that it bankrupts working families via fossil fuel bans and electrification mandates. We must also avoid foolish laws like restricting new natural gas hookups and the moratorium on pipelines. This has led New York to use more coal and oil, which has in turn created additional pollution.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
We need to take an all-of-the-above approach to energy production. We must use natural gas, which burns cleaner than coal, as a bridge to a more sustainable future. NYers have been hurt by higher energy costs due to Albany’s poor decision-making.
