QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Neutral

I agree with life at conception but I understand circumstances that warrant protecting the mother. I personally do not support or believe in abortion for myself of my family, but I believe in the freedom of choice and don't want to impede that.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Neutral

I believe that abortion provider services and clinics should be privatized and not have tax dollars supporting them. I believe that support services outside of an actual abortion should qualify for funding.

I support laws which allow a municipality to enact a Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance.

Choose not to answer

There is more information needed for me to be comfortable answering this question. I would have to be clear as to what would the responsibility of the city government would be and how tax dollars would support the municipality. There would need to be oversight and regulations in place.

ECONOMY

Private development is a legitimate justification for taxpayer-funded incentives such as property tax abatements and taxpayer-backed loans.

Disagree

It is the responsibility of city government to provide subsidized housing at taxpayer expense.

Agree

Property taxes should be abolished.

Disagree

I support using taxpayer funds to lobby the state legislature and/or U.S. Congress.

Neutral

I would only support lobbying for the greatest good of the city overall and impacting the largest part of the citizens in our communities.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Government should not discriminate against individuals, organizations, or business owners who affirm marriage as between one man and one woman.

Agree

Government should not discriminate at all. It is important to protect the rights of all citizens under the law.

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Agree

IMMIGRATION

City officials should have the right to proclaim their city a sanctuary city for illegal aliens.

Agree

I think that as the city discusses what that looks like for the city as a whole and how it impacts the current residents, if the people in that city are for it then I believe the city officials should have the right to make that proclamation.

VALUES

Individuals should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on their "gender identity."

Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian and believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Disagree

I am well aware of the racist history of our country. I believe that CRT marginalizes the history and context of the cultural experiences of the people of this country. I believe that the attempt to qualify the entire story of this country in the definition of CRT is to diminish the full scope of what this country has experienced since it's colonial inception. I also believe that to avoid the accurate history of all of the people in this country is irresponsible.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

All filings by candidates for municipal office, including ballot application and campaign finance reports, should be available for public online access on the city website within 24 hours of filing deadline.

Agree

Ballot measures which include bond issues should fully disclose both the potential tax rate increase and actual monetary increase for the average single family residence.

Agree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

It is the responsibility of taxpayers via city government to subsidize green initiatives, including electric vehicle charging stations and procuring solar and wind-generated electricity.

Disagree

I think that there should be more support outside of the city government that support these efforts.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The general purpose of government is to support the daily living of the citizens through law and ordinances. It is the office by which we regulate and protect the communities. Government should be a reflection of the values and principles that the people in that community cherish most. The function includes the fiscal responsibilities, law and order, property protection, economic growth and development, civil liberties and responsibilities, and overall rights and regulations of the people they govern. Government should be aware of the unique challenges and needs of the people and keep that in mind with each law and ordinance enacted or retracted from the books. I don't believe government should control as much as it should be controlled by the people it governs.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

As a Navy Veteran, I learned to understand the value of all. When we were out to see, all of us depended on each other to get home safely and complete our mission effectively. We learned to communicate and be proactive in our work so that we were always prepared for any situation we may encounter. As citizens of this great country, we have the duty and ability to communicate and work together proactively to overcome the challenges we face, both now and in the future.

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2012 General Election 2014 General Election 2016 General Election 2018 Democratic Primary 2018 General Election 2020 Democratic Primary 2020 General Election

Candidates and officeholders should be required to disclose all business investments and real estate, whether in the city or in an area currently proposed for annexation.

Agree

Please list your business investments and/or real estate, whether within the city or in an area currently proposed for annexation.

none

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

I want to be first right in the eyes of God, and then effectively serve the people I am charged to represent. I am willing to work with all and believe in people over any party.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

none

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Disagree

I think that we can improve law enforcement by adding mental health response and community programming to our police departments. So, I believe it is more a reallocation in the department than redirection of funds out of it. I think that these areas are important to the betterment of our communities and could improve the effectiveness of law enforcement. I think that they could operate inside the department and allow growth in department and be more efficient in the use of resources.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I believe there could potentially be some common sense legislation, but as a gun owner, I am more concerned about those who are not going to follow the laws than I am about restrictions that prohibit law abiding citizens the opportunity to have firearms.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Agree

With proper regulations in place, I could see the legalization of recreational marijuana.

All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.

Agree

Any emergency executive order (EO) should be subject to review and override by the city council in a special meeting called no later than 14 days following issue of the EO.

Agree

I believe it is the proper use of checks and balances.

LOCAL

Please list up to six issues or projects that you think need the most attention, in priority order.

1. Economic development 2. Education 3. Reduction of crime 4. Homeownership 5. Justice and Equality 6. Health access

I support annual financial audits of every city department by an independent, third party auditor.
