QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Agree
I want to stop the sexualization of all students in school. Any organization which specializes in reproductive health or abortion have no place in public school.
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Agree
I celebrate today's Supreme Court decision to send the abortion debate back to the states. It's a victory for life and the Constitution! The recent COVID vaccination mandate has made body sovereignty a very personal thing to me. For the first time I was put in the position of the abortion proponents however, I still cannot justify abortion as birth control. Safe, legal and rare have become a form of birth control. Sadly, abortion has cheapened the value of human life to too many people.

ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
William Bradford saved the Pilgrims by establishing a merit based system which turned certain starvation into a surplus. This example was refined and advanced through the Scottish Enlightenment, Sir Edmund Burke, Montesquieu, John Locke and others resulting in the ultimate expression of human advancement called Capitalism. Capitalism is codependent upon Freedom/Self-determination and Individual Sovereignty which are the indispensable pillars of Western Civilization. Western Values are my values.

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.
Strongly Disagree
I am very suspicious of any government entity lobbying another government entity. The only reasonable way which I would consider lobbying would be to eliminate unfunded mandates at the very least. However, it's a double edged sword and the down sides out weigh the potential upsides. I would pursue a public relations campaign and potentially the courts as an alternative.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
I WANT TO END FEDERAL FUNDING OF PUBLIC EDUCATION. This would be complicated and probably impossible with the legal and potential Constitutional requirements however, the Federal Government has proven destructive to education and local customs. At the very least states should have the right to withhold those funds from the Federal Government and refuse Federal Education funds along with the accompanying mandates. I believe that mandates from central authorities dilute the culture of the smaller local communities. Preserving traditions in those smaller communities is critical to keeping America great or if we stray, it will bring us back. Common Core is the ultimate expression of Federal overreach as well as the States surrendering authority and control. As education funding has grown, the focus has strayed from ensuring mastery of core subjects. The time spent on reading, writing, math, history, science and the arts has shrunk and given way to more social expenditures. This puts the schools in a no win situation. They are forced to perform tasks that they are not good at and it takes time from the school's core charge. Part of the requirements have watered down punishment/discipline which has gutted a teacher's ability to maintain a proper instructive environment. Students and teachers alike suffer and parents are pushed to the fringes as they are unfamiliar with the Federal Common Core requirements. The bureaucracy wins while parents, students and too often teachers lose.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.
Strongly Agree
Patriotic & religious speech is under assault in Public Schools. The speech of students and teachers is curtailed by the moving target of Social Justice Speech Codes. People are shamed by Wokeness which categorizes offenders into racists, bigots or homophobes. Cancel Culture is employed to punish non-compliant people for not embracing radical Social Justice requirements by ruining their careers and reputations. This is a double edged sword, policies challenging offensive speech may go to court.
School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
A child's parents CAN ONLY BE one man and one woman. Marriage is the backbone of our society. Men winning the affection and trust of women, forming a lifelong bond and creating children together builds the strongest society humanly possible. This isn't to say that homosexuals do not deserve to form loving unions which are recognized by all as relevant and meaningful but, we weaken our society and the institution of marriage to call it the same as the matrimony intended to rear children within.

Students should not be allowed to pray in school.
Strongly Disagree
Denying a student's right to pray in school is nothing less than thought control. Which is the mission of the Speech Codes demanded by Social Justice, Wokeness and Cancel Culture. In 1962 the Supreme Court barred school endorsed religious prayer however, observant school districts cleverly offered a moment of silence which, to me is an acceptable compromise until SCOTUS reverses the 1962 decision.

EDUCATION
What is the function of the local school board?
Above all, any School Board's primary function is to lawfully interpret the wishes of the voters as well as State mandates which is manifested by rules which are to be enforced by the Superintendent. With respect to policy making, the Pasco County School Board's first consideration is the US Constitution, second is the Constitution of the State of Florida, third is the wishes of the stakeholders (parents, students and instructional/transportation employees of the Pasco County School District), forth Federal and State Statutes. The Board also passes a budget which facilitates the Districts ability to execute the dictates of the Board. These budgets would include evaluation and anticipation of the need for instructional facilities in the County, funds for new construction, funding State mandates, funds for recruiting and retaining the best possible employees, funds for curriculum and text books, funds for minimal but reasonable services for students and employees, funds for reasonable extracurricular activities and sports, funds for transporting students to and from school and extracurricular events, funds which facilitate pushing back on undesirable mandates from the State, funds to enhance security in schools amongst other necessities and desires. The Board should lay out reserve funds of 10% +/-1% to deal with emergencies. For students and personnel, these dictates are expressed in the Student/Parent Code of Conduct and the Employee Code of Conduct. The Board should also appoint a committees of teachers, parents and District personnel to vet and recommend text books and curriculum for each subject to the Board for final approval. Each of the three equal contributors will present their argument for their selections to the Board. Every School Board should clearly define it's expectations for the District to achieve as well as the metrics to measure if the District is achieving the goals. If the District fails to achieve the stated objectives then it should lead with it's failures and perform a root cause - corrective action plan (RCCA) to reveal the weaknesses, strengths and solutions.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
A committee of 20 members made up of 40% teachers, 40% parents (non-district employees), 2 district employees and 2 School Board members. Each member will have equal voting rights.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
1) These subjects have equal and highest priority to me in public school: Math, Science, American History, Language Arts, Physical Fitness, Art & Music, Foreign Language 2) I consider these subjects to be valuable but of secondary value: Vocational Learning, Information Technology, Personal Finance 3) As for Political Activism, THIS HAS NO PLACE ON ANY PUBLIC SCHOOL CAMPUS. ANY TEACHER OR ADMINISTRATOR WHO ADVOCATES FOR OR PARTICIPATES IN ANY POLITICAL ACTIVISM ON CAMPUS OR WITH STUDENTS SHOULD BE DISMISSED IMMEDIATELY. Turning students into activists is destructive to their mental wellbeing and tranquility. 4) Gender Identity, Critical Race Theory, Social Emotional Learning are destructive to all children. THESE ITEMS SHOULD BE BANNED FROM ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS. PASCO COUNTY SCHOOLS HAVE ALLOWED THESE ITEMS TO FLOURISH. PUBLIC SCHOOLS SHOULD ACTIVELY WORK TO REMOVE EVERY VESTIGE OF THIS FROM OUR CAMPUSES ROOT AND BRANCH. 5) Sexuality, if you mean biology then that is in the Science category. If you mean Gender Identity then it has no place in any public school.

American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.
Strongly Agree
All public schools should teach Western Civilization with a patriotic theme to it. Nothing is more demoralizing to a child then to learn that the country of which they are a citizen of is evil. They cannot rationalize such untruths. Plus, they lose their sense of belonging. America is a great country possessing a history decisions large and small. America is what America does. We are the last, best hope of earth and should be looked at in the totality of our actions. Good and bad, warts 'n all

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.
Strongly Agree
The parents should participate in deciding ALL peripheral sexual instruction to their child. Pasco County Schools has an "Opt-Out" system for sex-ed. This is backwards. It should be an "Opt-In" system. However, prior to all of this, there should be an opportunity for parents to take the class themselves. This kind of dayllight would go a long way to weeding out the inappropriateness and create a more self-policing climate which is sorely needed.

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.
Strongly Agree
I strongly believe that the small amount of Federal dollars is not worth giving up control. How can a centralized bureaucracy have any clue of the cultural preferences in education held in any corner of this country - particularly Pasco County. To me it's a Tenth Amendment issue. With that autonomy comes more responsibility and cost. To me, it's a small price to pay to regain that control. We have to remember, bureaucrats do one thing before anything else - they promote the bureaucracy.

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.
Strongly Agree
The 1619 Project et al are simply historically inaccurate. But that's what Leftists do so well, turn our goodness into hate. The Three Fifths Compromise in the Constitution is a perfect example. It did not degrade black people, it says nothing about any race. It reduced the influence of the slave states for the purposes of apportionment which reduced the South's ability to propagate slavery. The Founders brilliantly snuck a poison pill into the Constitution which spelled the end of slavery.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
Parents have been shoved to the sidelines. Heck parents have been shoved off the field, past the bleachers and into the parking lot! As a parent who is active in my district school system I have experienced forceful rule after rule which separates me from my children, their teachers and campus. I have to go through gatekeepers who don't have to grant me access to my kids. That is unacceptable! Public schools have exploited mass shootings to further remove me and my wife from our kids' education.

VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that God is the goodness amongst all mankind. As an engineer, I struggle with faith however, I love the miracles described in the Bible and celebrate the associated holidays. My wife of 31 years and I teach our kids how Jesus died for us and our sins and that God gave his only son for us. How Jesus rose from the dead amongst other meaningful stories from the Bible. I know that is a bit of a contradiction but it's how I can reconcile it. Christian values have made the world a better place and if adhered to more closely would result in more tranquility and human freedom. This is not a politicians mental gymnastics, you've probably figured out that I am not a very good politician. These beliefs are the result of many years of trying to come to grips with my desire to have faith next to my limited ability to take that leap of faith.
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
Gender Identity Politics is destroying female sports at all levels. The higher the accomplishment, the more tragic the tale. Women who have worked hard their entire lives are having their futures dismantled as they watch a confused man cross the finish line 1st. And Academia celebrates these selfish, gender dysphoric, resentful men get even with the successful women which they wish they were. These mental patients are no longer worthy of our pity, they need to be seen as what they are - MEN.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
PARENTS. Teaching sexual education is an iterative process. A little now and a little more then. It is also situational. But in the end, the parents are the only people who should determine when children should be taught sexual education and what that should entail.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
I don't support Sex Ed in public schools. I support teaching biology and the life cycle. However, if I had to pick and choose I would prioritize the following: Abstinence Human Anatomy and the Reproductive System Stages of Pregnancy and Fetal Development Physical and Emotional Outcomes Consent and contraception is up to the parents. Sexual orientation, abortion, sex acts and pleasures of sex has absolutely no place in any public school. Leftists like to say that the students will learn this anyway from other more sophisticated kids. Well, if the school would stop equipping these kids with this knowledge then there wouldn't be such a rich source of information, would there? "Just say no" was effective when I was a kid, a modern twist on that is what is needed.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
That says it all.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Strongly Agree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.
Strongly Agree
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. Any staff member who participates, no matter how slightly in tampering with or attempting to alter a child's sexual identity should be dismissed immediately. Nothing undermines a child's tranquility more than creating confusion about if a child belongs in their body. IT'S GROOMING and it's abuse. The LGBTQ community is prey upon school children for only one reason - RECRUITMENT. This is for the gratification of adult homosexuals - not the kids.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
There is nothing more fundamental to voting than proving who you are. I refuse to accept that it is an undue burden, or even an inconvenience. It is one's duty to their fellow citizen to be accountable during voting. The last election rightfully undermined the confidence that many Americans had in our election system. I believe the goal was not just to steal an office, it was to undermine confidence in the Electoral College. Voting accountability must be absolute to restore faith in voting.

ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No. Nor have I ever been arrested. And it's not because I didn't get caught, I believe we all have a civic obligation to obey the law. Short of speeding from time to time, I enjoy obeying the law and being an example for my children and the rewards of being a lawful citizen.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Strongly Agree
The moral values which a person, whether a candidate for office or not, are a strong indication of how they will behave and the decisions which they will make. Moral questions are appropriate and relevant. For me personally, I see it as an opportunity to demonstrate the high standards which I hold myself to. Whether we like it or not, we are an example for others. It's the kind of example we are that matters.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Rush Limbaugh once said "I am slightly to the right of Attila the Hun." I grew up falling in love with Reagan's America. The shining city on the hill really existed in my mind. I took the Declaration seriously and learned of the terrible sacrifice each and every signer made for us - for me. I solidly subscribe to the idea that freedom is not passed down in the bloodstream, it has to be fought for and defended and taught to the next generation - or it will be lost. The same goes for conservatism.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Strongly Agree

This is an interview I did with Michelle Manderin about one month ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXATFzeKzAY It will validate everything I am stating in this questionnaire. I am doing another interview with her tomorrow morning as a Part 2 because we ran out of time in the first interview. I am committed to integrity. If I make a misstatement I will clear it up or apologize.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am doing this for the STUDENTS, the PARENTS and the TEACHERS. When I say teachers it's a euphemism for all non-administrative employees of the Pasco County School System. Teachers, bus drivers, front end staff, crossing guards, maintenance people and janitors. I am a husband and a father before anything else. I am also a successful lifelong entrepreneur who failed plenty of times before I got it right. I was minding my own business and excited about my son enjoying his high school experience, making the friends and memories which would last the rest of his life. Then I was confronted with the hard core Leftism which permeates the Pasco County School System. After two years of multiple meetings and working within the District and actually teaching an engineering class for 5 weeks in a middle school I was convinced that those in charge have no ability and in some cases no will to return our schools to a place where traditional American values are celebrated and kids can have a tranquil place to learn and study their lessons. Now, beyond the low academic standards, Public Schools in Pasco County are places of sexual grooming, Left-Wing indoctrination and Leftist political activism. Have you ever met a tranquil activist? This is not what I want for my kids or my country. It has to stop and I'm the only candidate in District 1 who knows how to spot it and stop it. And make no mistake, I will stop it. Pasco County Schools should be a place where well remunerated teachers and staff can provide students with high quality instruction in a tranquil environment. Where parents can watch their student athletes compete and enjoy the richness of victory and the lessons of defeat all with the camaraderie of sportsmanship. Female students can rest assured that they will not be forced to take second place to a confused male who is permitted to compete in their sport or be permitted into their locker room afterwards. Merit based education will be restored to it's full richness. Rigorous academics will be the norm. Grades will be earned and students will understand what they have accomplished and their entire family can take pride in their meaningful accomplishment. Steve Meisman is an old soul with a high tech mindset. Education was so much better decades ago before all of the Social Justice, Woke Cancel Culture crept in. It has roared to life and taken over with the help of our feckless leadership. We, as parents, need to turn the tables as Jesus did and say "no more!" This election is critical. August 23rd, 2022 is our opportunity to MAKE EDUCATION GREAT AGAIN!

2ND AMENDMENT
Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
Strongly Agree
If you are talking about The Guardian Program in which teachers who have undergone no less than 142 hours of training, psychological examination and volunteered for the program, then I agree that THOSE teachers should be permitted and encouraged to clandestinely carry a concealed firearm to schools. Those are the minimum requirements. I would also like to see retired veterans and law enforcement who receive similar validation and specialized training to be sentinels in schools as a deterrent.

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

I support mask mandates.
Strongly Disagree
Mask mandates were the biggest public school policy mistake in my lifetime. Respiratory acidosis and hypoglycemia are just two of the medical side effects which harmed children in addition to the social and emotional damage. Keeping kids in fear and turning them against each other when it was clear that children were not vulnerable to COVID nor were they transmission vectors. I can kind of understand initially making the mandates but, leaving them in for two years? Absolutely inexcusable!
