EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Agree

I strongly support school choice and I favor more parental involvement in educational paths for their children. A parent knows their child better than anyone and I believe they should be the primary decision maker in conjunction with local schoolboards. It is our responsibility to give them the tools and infrastructure to give their child the education they deserve.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

I believe weaknesses were illuminated in Michigan’s election process that require immediate attention to ensure the confidence of our citizens in future elections. I am a strong believer in transparency and disclosure to preserve the fairness of campaigns and provide a level playing field for all candidates and consequently the interests of the people they are elected to represent. Super PACS and dark money make it possible to virtually buy elections and favor special interests at the direct expense of the average taxpayer. That is not fair representation and violates the principles our nation was founded on. I believe every legitimate voice should be heard and every legal vote counted. Access to exercising one's right to vote should be as unencumbered as possible while maintaining safety and security.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

- I want government out of our living rooms and let us decide what is best for our families. The Constitution was clear "We The People" - I want less governmental control of our dollars ( i.e. tax reductions). Not much has gone right historically with government and money, the less involved they are the better for all, especially our children - To defend the Constitution unconditionally. The liberals in our country are a danger to the foundation of our society attacking every basic principal of our existence.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

This is a subjective area and the options are not quantified. I am a Conservative. I do like to look at the facts on issues and pragmatically make individual decisions. I think that is the most responsible approach in life and even more of a requirement of an elected official.

Detroit News Endorsement and Candidate Questionnaire for August 2, 2022 primary election

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

NO

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

After 40 successful years in the automotive business, raising and educating a family, and now welcoming grandchildren, I feel my life experience and business expertise give me a unique opportunity to give back to the community that has given my family such a nice life. With inflation raging, record gas prices, and the economy on the brink, the time is right to make a difference for Michigan families. My goal is to get as much money back in the hands of the taxpayer as possible to help get through this challenging economic time. I believe an integral part of governing is similar to running a business. You have to control costs and eliminate wasteful spending, provide an optimal environment to offer your product or service, and have the skilled workforce to execute. Healthy business invests in the economy in many forms, most importantly they provide dependable income to the workforce who in turn cycle money thru the economy and can do the things to enjoy their lives with more quality. I have done this as an employer and businessman my entire life and feel I am well suited to continue in the public sector. The 3 key messages of my campaign are: -Experienced and Qualified - I am by far the most qualified candidate to serve during this economic crisis with 40 successful years of business and economic experience. I am the only candidate who actually ran a business and have been responsible for well over a billion dollars in budget and revenue decisions that directly impacted over 100 employees and their families. This kind of experience takes decades and we don’t have the luxury of having anyone else trying to learn it on the job in this critical economic environment. -Economic, Business, Workforce Development - For Michigan to continue its economic comeback, we must pursue solutions that make our state a magnet for jobs so people can afford to live, work and raise a family here. We must reject the failed policies of the past that once killed jobs and drove our economy into the ground. Michigan's greatest assets are its people, and our state's continued growth depends on our skilled and talented work force. Government doesn't create jobs - local small businesses do. However, to increase jobs and household incomes, state government must make smart policy decisions that creates an economically competitive environment to ensure talent, infrastructure and resources job creators value most are available here. -Taxes - When politicians overspend, too often their solution is to raise taxes. To keep Michigan competitive, we must keep taxes low for workers, job creators, and families. My tax priorities are: • Suspend the State Gas tax • Repeal the senior retirement tax • Oppose new sales taxes on everyday items and services • Oppose higher gas taxes and oppose turning Michigan freeways into toll roads • Support lower income taxes. Although every responsibility of a legislator is very important and will I devote my best to each one, the economy, business and workforce development, responsible spending, lower taxes, and smaller government while always protecting our seniors, veterans, and most vulnerable citizens are my passions. I believe that the aforementioned are the engine that drives everything and by getting those right, we will have the resources to tackle all the things that are important in the life of every Michigan citizen.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

There are plenty of other areas of wasteful spending to address that will yield the necessary funding for mental health and community programs.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I believe our path to reducing gun violence is most effectively attained by attacking the root cause of many of the problems. Revamping education and vocational training are building blocks to improving people’s economic condition and lifting them out of poverty. A focus on expanded mental health awareness and treatment is critical. Improving our business climate will provide necessary resources that will clear the path for these things to occur. We must ensure school safety immediately, with the tragedy in Oxford, and recent unspeakable acts nationally still in the pit of our stomachs, it is time to act before this ever happens again.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
