RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Only in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Strongly Agree

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

Never. This is a clear First Amendment issue. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." It was unacceptable during COVID-19 that some state and city governments were closing churches or limiting attendance while allowing businesses like strip clubs to continue operating. We need to be vigilant against this kind of dangerous government violation of religious freedom.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Critical. Israel is a long-term formal ally and the most stable democratic country in the Middle East. We also share a common enemy in radical Islamic terrorism. Radical terror groups are intent on destroying both our countries. Israel's decisive defeat and eradication of Hamas is in our interests. But we also need to ensure we're fiscally responsible in sending resources to allies. I support aid coinciding with proportional budget cuts, or being provided as a loan to be paid back.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

C. Free market health care options promote lower costs and price transparency. We should limit taxpayer funded programs to Medicaid and Medicare. Senior citizens on a fixed income rely on Medicare, and we need to protect their stability in coverage. Medicaid provides a necessary safety net for those in poverty. That being said, both programs are bloated, poorly run, and should be more rigorously assessed to identify waste, fraud, and abuse.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

None. No individual should be forced to take a vaccination as a condition to be employed or educated.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I oppose the concept of a minimum wage, and the constant increases. It ends up hurting small businesses and taking away jobs from the very people the minimum wage was intended to help - young and entry level workers. A free market approach is best.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

As a retired Mesa police officer of 27 years, I see our border crisis as the most critical issue facing Arizona. The open border undermines our national sovereignty and has opened us to rampant crime, trafficking, cartel activity, and an onslaught of drugs. The federal government has abdicated its responsibility to protect us. We have a right to defend our state in their absence.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Agree

As a board member of a local public charter school, a product of school choice, and the father of two daughters who have enjoyed the benefits of public school and school choice, I'm a strong believe in empowering parents to choose the education that is right for their child. I will vigorously defend Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program from constant attacks by the Governor and the radical left.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

As a retired Mesa police officer, I took part in many community programs, including Community Bridges. While these partnerships are critical to providing a fabric of services and rehabilitation for at risk individuals, these programs are not a replacement for policing. A consistent presence of police in a community, both proactive and reactive is a deterrent to crime.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Only a restriction on ownership by convicted violent felons. The Second Amendment is clear that the right to bear arms may not be infringed.

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

I would support this with proper training provided to these teacher and safety mechanisms put in place to ensure guns are not accessible to students.

VALUES

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

Protecting our children from radical gender ideology, grooming and mutilation is pressing and will be a priority of mine as an Arizona State Senator.

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.

Strongly Agree

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I attended a nondenominational Christian high school where we had a pastor from a different church each week. My home church now is City of Grace (the Mesa campus). I enjoy attending a variety of different churches. I believe we are saved because Jesus Christ died for our sins.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Many daily activities require ID from opening a bank account, flying on a plane, and applying for a job, to renting a car, or picking up a prescription. Engaging in the solemn civic duty of voting should be taken seriously and should always require proper identification.

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Usually no. But when it is, it isn't remotely close to the greatest threat to domestic security - our open border crisis. Other more pressing threats include Islamic terrorism and the threat of China. We have also seen violent antisemitism erupt, specifically in protests and on college campuses since the attack on Israel on October 7. I supervised the Mesa Police Department Intelligence Unit which investigates threat groups in the State. We investigated racist threat groups.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

A and C.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

We should prioritize development of nuclear energy as an alternative option.
