QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Rape, Incest, Risk to Mother's Health
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Neutral
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
The tax code needs to made fairer and simpler. The tax burden on the American people needs to be reduced, and we should be able to create a tax code that allows citizens to save money on tax preparation and greatly reduce the giant IRS bureaucracy. I would support looking into the possibility of either a flat tax or a fair tax, as long as we can ensure that lower income Americans will not be hurt by the new code.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I would support the elimination of earmarks and requiring stand alone bills that do not allow elected officials to slip pork spending into must pass legislation. We need to drastically slash the size of the federal government, saving billions of dollars by eliminating unnecessary departments and eliminating a large part of the unelected bureaucracy that currently creates and implements unconstitutional regulations. Another tremendous savings would be from eliminating fraud and waste in federal programs, requiring audits of all programs and cuts in non-critical spending in programs that do not directly impact American citizens.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Choose not to answer
Education should be provided to every American citizen through the completion of high school, with funding opportunities for further education either in our community colleges, university system, or trade/professional schools. The government education system is failing our children, especially those in low income and minority communities. All schools - public, private, charter, religious - should be in an education marketplace, with funding portability and universal school choice.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Regardless of how individual and private decisions are perceived, the Constitution protects individuals from having any religious/moral belief forced upon them, and it prohibits the government from denying them the right to worship freely, including the moral values with which they lead their life.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
With the exception of illegal enterprises being run out of the church or illegal activities occurring within the church, the government has no constitutional authority to close a church. All Americans are free to worship as they please, when they please, and where they please, as long as it does not infringe on another's rights or violate laws, even if the government feels it is in the best interests to prevent large gatherings, as in the case of the Covid pandemic.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
We need to do our best to ensure that all Americans have access to adequate, affordable healthcare. Medicare and Medicaid should remain, although audits of the programs and efforts to eliminate fraud and waste must occur. Otherwise, the government should work as a facilitator of system reform and stay far away from involvement in the functioning of the actual healthcare system. We need to reform the health insurance industry, beginning with price transparency to allow consumers to shop around for the best services and prices. Health insurance should be able to be purchased across state lines, giving consumers fair access to affordable programs regardless of the state in which they live. Pharmaceuticals should be open to importation from other nations, approved for safety and efficacy, again affording consumers options, generating competition amongst providers, and resulting in lower costs. Efforts to curb frivolous malpractice lawsuits should continue, along with investments in research and development that can produce better technology and services and lower costs. Finally, any insurers offering health insurance to American citizens must be required to agree to insure those with pre-existing conditions with caps on premium surcharges for such conditions. A free market can rein in costs much more effectively than an activist government.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Although I am against any kind of health mandates, private enterprises have constitutional protections against an overreaching government, meaning they can not be forced to require vaccines, and at the same time should not be banned from requiring them. In other words, if a restaurant requires proof of vaccine, an individual has the option to refuse to eat there, or if a private school does the same, parents can send their child to another school. I believe it is important to be guided by the Constitution, even if it works against my beliefs in health freedom. Government, with obvious exceptions such as human rights, safety, etc., should stay out of the operations of a private enterprise. No public entity, for any reason, has the constitutional authority to require vaccines. The government also does not have the authority to unduly influence private enterprises to implement mandates that the government, itself, does not have the constitutional authority to implement.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
We need to always be on the offensive against a threat that will never stop in its pursuit of our destruction. This includes any and all covert operations, intelligence gathering, use of drones, diplomatic and economic pressures on other nations, and any other anti-terrorism measures. We should always look to limit the exposure of members of our American armed forces to danger, but can never sit back and allow the terrorists to bring the fight to our shores again. If we keep them on the defensive, it is much less likely that they can go on the offensive against us in any large scale 9/11 type of attack.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
We need to complete construction of the border wall and enhance our technological and human resources at the southern border. We need to increase the number of border patrol agents and allow entrance only at legal checkpoints. Beyond that, we need to enforce our immigration laws, ban sanctuary cities and states, and prosecute any elected and/or appointed public officials who circumvent or actively break those laws.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
While legal immigration, as it always has been, is critical to the future of the United States, we must limit immigration to those individuals that we can vet, those who would be productive members of American society, those with legitimate asylum claims, and those who would serve critical needs for the country. Entrance to the nation should be denied to any individuals with previous criminal records or other personal or health situations that could be a risk to the health and safety of American citizens.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
As I said earlier, I believe all schools should exist in an education marketplace... universal school choice with funding portability where every parent, regardless of race, income, zip code, or any other factor, can decide which school best meets the need of their individual children. I strongly support Education Savings Accounts that further empower parents to take charge of their child's education. I also support a decentralization of educational authority and reforming teacher prep programs.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
All people are entitled to equal protection under the law but not entitled to special protection under the law.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Disagree
Our individual interpretation of the sacrament of marriage does not override the Constitution. Marriage is not a power granted to the federal government by the Constitution, and therefore is a state power. That being said, our limited government should stay out of people's lives, and the union between two individuals should be left to the individuals involved. As a true constitutional conservative, I will always stand on the side of limiting government power and interventions in individual lives
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Critical race theory is nothing more than racism dressed up as anti-racism. The United States is not inherently racist, and any attempts at revising our national history are anti-American. We are not a perfect nation, but better than any nation in history, we have worked relentlessly to overcome our flaws and have pursued a fairer, more just and equal society. CRT teaches people to hate themselves, others, and their country, It is a hateful, divisive belief system that promotes racism.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am Catholic with a Christian belief system and values.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
We cannot ensure the integrity of our elections if we cannot be sure the person voting is actually the person who is supposed to be voting. Individuals need a license to purchase alcohol, to fly on a plane, to take a college-entrance exam, and for many other things... it is not unreasonable and is certainly not an attempt to suppress votes to require a photo ID to vote.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Photo ID should be required for any type of voting; absentee balloting should be reserved for those deployed, those working out of state or country, and those informed and unable to leave the home; drop boxes can only be deployed under 24 hour security; proof of citizenship must be required to register; voter rolls must be required to be cleaned up each election year; election day should be a national holiday, more polling precincts should be opened; all ballots must be received by the closing of the polls on election day (not postmarked by election day); paper ballots should be used; there should be uniform ballot procurement and counting protocols and procedures in each county throughout the state; once counting has begun it must be completed without interruption
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is despicable, regardless of which group of people is being discriminated against or treated unfairly. Anything that is a threat to national unity is a threat to our security, but there are those in society who use race as a wedge, and purposefully inject race where it doesn't belong and keep the races divided in order to empower themselves and promote their anti-American agenda.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
No one alive today was affected by slavery and no one alive today perpetuated slavery. The time for reparations was in the 1860s and for the immediate generations that followed. It is not fair to punish people today who had nothing to do with the horrors of slavery, or to reward those who were not in any way directly harmed by the institution.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A) I believe that we can be good stewards of our environment without destroying our economy and forcing Americans to drastically reduce their quality of life. The climate naturally changes and while there are things we do that impact our environment negatively, we are not in a climate crisis.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
We need fossil fuels to power our nation. We do it cleaner than anyone else, so we would be environmentally irresponsible if we forego our own energy sources for the dirtier fossil fuels of other nations, as the Biden administration is doing.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To protect the rights and liberties of the people, and to provide for the defense of the nation.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
None of which I am aware
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
Education reform, public safety, and cost of living are my legislative priorities
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Agree
For those incidents which are conducted without negligence or with criminal intent
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Defunding the police is the stupidest idea ever thought up. We need more police, not less, with better equipment and training.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We have an absolute right to bear arms and any banning of firearms or confiscation would be unconstitutional. While I support expansive background checks, I strongly oppose red flag laws. We should be able to have conversations about keeping guns out of the hands of those with serious mental health issues, those who have been violent in the past, and those who pose a serious potential risk to others.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
Until we can sue car manufacturers for automobile deaths, knife manufacturers for those deaths, and any other item that can be used for harm, then the thought of suing gun manufacturers is absurd.
