QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When pregnancy threatens the physical life of the mother, then that decision should be between the parents and their doctor.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
There should be both simplification and equity in the tax code. No-one should need a lawyer or accountant to understand what taxes are, and taxes should be spread evenly without carveouts and special deductions for select businesses.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
First, I would account for all agency funds and put them through the state’s standard accounting software, so in addition to budget appropriation we knew actual income including fees, contracts, direct payments, and grants. Then I would evaluate which agencies could see a cut in budget appropriation to offset those other revenue streams.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
Private-public partnerships like TCC and area High schools partnership to train youth in a given trade, should be encouraged instead.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The government should never be able to close a church or any other type of religious institution.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Neither governments, schools, nor employers should be allowed to require vaccinations. None of these entities have the right to intrude on a person's health decisions.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
A strong and secure border is our first priority. The president should not be able to start and stop boarder construction on a whim, and if such obstruction happens the states should take it upon themselves to complete the wall.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We have a long and successful history of welcoming immigrants to the United States and there are many who do so legally and we should welcome them. Anyone who enters through the legal process should be welcome. Anyone who skirts the legal process should be removed from the country and disallowed to return for a certain period of years.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
I support a parent's right to select the best education system for their children and I believe education dollars should follow the student to whichever selection they make. I do not support modifying dollars into tax credits, vouchers, and other forms which add unnecessary burdens on those attempting to use funds for education.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Agree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I have been a Christian my entire life and it is the basis for my beliefs and actions. The founding fathers intended us to live religious lives and our system of government only works with a religious populace.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
The security of our voting process is paramount.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Voter ID with every election, Election days (primaries and general) set on a national calendar date and selected to be a state/federal holiday so everyone has time available to vote.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
No, Much of this is falsely generated by our media and fostered by political narratives. They continue to stir up controversy and create division and a change in the media would resolve much of our problems.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
Choice A. We should respect and care for our environment but should not sacrifice the wellbeing of our people as a result.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government's purpose is to be a protector of the people in times of war and in protecting the individual liberty of people - specifically their inalienable rights. Thomas Jefferson said, “My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.”
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
My website VotetTimBrooks.com has links to my social media accounts where we are uploading public addresses and character references during the campaign season.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I am passionate about helping people succeed in every area of their lives. I have coached varsity and intramural sports, substitute taught in public and Tribal schools, led Bible studies and pastored youth groups, trained insurance agents and walked hundreds of individuals through their insurance coverage, and now seek to help the people of the 76th district as we guide our great state forward into the future.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
Scrutiny of these policies is incredibly important however. Civil asset forfeiture, for example, may be a department policy but should be illegal without first a conviction.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Each of these plays an important role in our society and defunding any one for the sake of others will only harm our population.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We do not need more restrictions, but State Law Enforcement agencies should hold at least monthly free public education and training courses in weapons safety, concealed draw, and firing precision.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
In the same way that "We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker." (Ronald Reagan), we must also reject the idea that businesses or governments are guilty. Each individual is accountable for his/her own actions.
