QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Agree

I believe that at conception, it is a human life with certain inalienable rights. I do not support abortion at any point during pregnancy. As a Catholic, it is against my religious beliefs. These organizations should not be a part of anything within our schools.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

For the life of the mother I would understand it but still believe it to be a horrible thing. The excuse of rape I fear will create a situation where someone could be falsely accused but I understand that there may be a time that it would be understandable. I think it is horrible but I understand that there may be a time that it is medically necessary but regardless, it is the taking of a life which is always a tragedy. It should never be used as a form of birth control which all too often is the case.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Our Constitution guarantees equal opportunity but not guaranteed outcome. When you give things for free, it does not bring the same value as something earned. As we saw with the pandemic stimulus, people were given checks to help pay rents, buy food and take care of themselves yet stores had a run on new televisions. Each individual is responsible for themselves/their families. When the government is guaranteeing each person's income, that is socialism. That is not who we are.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I have no problem with publicly funded K-12. I do not believe that the federal government has a role to play outside of ensuring that people's Constitutional rights are not being violated in the process of providing an education. The curriculum of each school should be set by local and state officials. They are in the best position to know what the student needs. I also support charter schools and vouchers. The dollars should be tied to the student and public schools will improve with the competition. We see in business that the cream will rise to the top and those who do not perform to an acceptable standard go out of business or see significantly less success than others. As for colleges, I have witnessed that the more money the government puts into post-secondary education the more that seems to be getting wasted. The colleges and universities have significant budgets but seem to always be short. I also believe that our colleges and universities should look at being more supportive of the trades. We have shortages in skilled labor, yet we do not have the necessary programs to have an impact in that area. That said, our 9th-12th grade schools could do more there. Again, I do not mind helping those who need it but the student who does not need their education subsidized should pay what it costs.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Agree

If two people wish to be in some type of union, I am not opposed to that. If they want taxpayer funds to pay for that or pay a benefit for that, that is a different story. That said, the government should not be involved in a marriage regardless. It is between two people, not two people and the government. Why do we need a license for that? The only purpose for the government to be involved in this at all is to be able to tax it. My marraige is between God, my wife and myself.

The Ten Commandments should not be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.

Strongly Disagree

If all people lived by the premise of those ten rules, the world would be a better place! They are religious statement and a good guide for how people should conduct themselves.

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

Schools should allow different opinions to be discussed. Not just the opinions of the teacher or administration's or something that fits a desired narrative. When different opinions are discussed, everyone learns. When one side of an argument is the only one allowed to be discussed, everyone is hurt by that.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

100%. I am a USAF Veteran that served under President Reagan in a black project that was key to ending the Cold War. The Cold War ended because of the Reagan Doctrine of Peace Through Strength. When there is an actual or perceived weakness in leadership, a country operates from a place of weakness. For clarity, I served with the unit that took the F-117A Stealth Fighter operational and the stealth technology is what broke the USSR's back.

EDUCATION

Every state should mandate K-12 standardized tests and the use of teaching software which aligns with Common Core standards.

Strongly Disagree

Each state should create an education plan and standards that best suits that state. National standardized testing does not create a better education. It creates an atmosphere where teachers will teach so that students will do well on the test and not prepare them for life after high school. I understand the desire to have a benchmark for measuring the success of a school but things like Common Core are not the answer. Additionally, not every area of the country has the same educational needs.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

I cannot add anything to that statement except to say it is absolutely correct.

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

My wife and I decided to send 3 out of 4 our kids to Catholic school. They had some classes that had to do with things we did not want being taught to our kids from someone other than ourselves. We opted out of those classes and our children attended an alternative activity for things we didn't want them exposed to. I am 100% certain what we were objecting to within the Catholic school system was nothing as compared to what public school kids were exposed to.

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

I absolutely do not not support that. Kids should be taught our country's history, both the good and the bad but it needs to be the entire history, not the part that serves someone or some groups narrative.

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

We have a belief within our country that the best government is the government closest to the people. Local control of our educational system will create the best educational system. The most well intended person in Washington DC cannot understand what every kid needs in every part of the country. Within Nevada, a child in Las Vegas does not have the same educational needs as a child in Ely Nevada. Las Vegas is a service industry based town and Ely is a mining town. The needs are not the same.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

There isn't anything I can add to that statement. You do not have to be religious to accept the fact that the things like the Golden Rule or the 10 Commandments are great virtues to live by.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

I spent 26 years as a youth and high school coach. There is a difference between the two genders and that should be celebrated not diminished.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Catholic Christian. I am a conservative. I raised my family with our faith as the center of our belief system. I respect others beliefs but I have lived my life according to my belief structure as taught to me by my church. I have served my church as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan. I am thankful for all that I have and I know I have been blessed in my life. I am not perfect and I accept responsibility for my mistakes and do not brag on my successes.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

They are children, their parents should make the decision. My oldest son has Neurofibromatosis 1. We had to deal with all of the issues associated with this. My wife and I decided when and what my child was to understand about what he has and when he was to learn it. We did not want him overwhelmed with information nor did we want him to use his issues as an excuse to not perform to his best potential. When my son learned about his issues, my wife and I decided what and when he was to learn it.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Economic - what we have done over the past two years is a huge mistake and we will suffer because of the deficit spending and the money the government printed. Socially, I am conservative as previously explained. Foreign policy should always be addressed from a position of strength. Our forefathers understood that the government should not dictate a religion and that everyone should have the right to worship as they so choose and the have the right to not worship at all.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I have a YouTube Channel where I have done podcasts in the past to discuss many of these issues. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCADZ8sfSUkb_GGbaU-0idPA, any of my social media will give you insight as well as the list of organizations I have been involved with. Additionally, I will answer any other question anyone may have.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?

The Bible, The Art of War - Sun Tzu, The Wealth of Nations - Adam Smith

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am a very straight forward and sometimes very blunt person. I wear my emotions on my sleeve and I will tell you what I think. I love my country and I hate seeing the divisiveness that we see today. We are the greatest country in the history of the world but I worry that we may in jeopardy of losing what we have. I want my kids and grandkids to have opportunities that I never did but we need to work together to ensure that they do. I believe that everyone should be doing something that helps someone else and if you are not, then you are wasting the opportunity given to you. Everyone should do something in service of someone else.

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Strongly Agree

One or more properly licensed and trained teacher in each school would cut down on the chances of the mass shootings we have seen. A bad guy is less likely to strike a target that is defended than one where there is no defense. There is a simple logic. Someone wants to rob a bank and one bank has an armed guard and the other doesn't. Which bank is most likely to get robbed?

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Do you support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school?

No

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

Every person has free will and can make decisions for themselves and their families. If you believe that is what is best for you then that is what you should do. Basically, "You do you and I'll do me." and that is it. When it comes to children, parents/guardians should be the decision makers.
