RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
There was a time rich women went to Europe for abortions and poor women went to the butcher down the alley. Now some call a partial birth followed by severing the spinal column abortion. It's not abortion. It's murder. Abortion should be legal, safe, rare, and performed early when it's just a cluster of cells. The cost should be born by the individual or her insurance provider. The national debt is 30 trillion dollars. This is an expense taxpaying citizens do not need to cover.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
Death is inevitable. There are occasions when continuing life may become meaningless. I support allowing an individual to make the decision to to discontinue life, to stop meaningless suffering, and to do so in a way that preserves the dignity of the individual involved and the loved ones around that person. That may be the compassionate thing to do.
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Abortion should not be used as a birth control measure. I would hope that someone contemplating abortion would do so after carefully considering all of the options available and with input from close counselors. I am not going to judge the individual motivations involved. I would restrict abortion to early in a pregnancy. Some States say that is within 15 weeks. I think it should be earlier than that - possibly 10 weeks but that is for medical specialists to determine.
ECONOMY
Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.
Strongly Disagree
There are legitimate reasons public funds should be used to support individuals with a mental or physical handicap, but using public funds to narrow the financial gap between the wealthy and the working class is not one of them. As far as I know, we get one shot at life and there is pride that comes from being self sufficient, from striving and achieving. We all need to be accountable for the decisions we make. We should not expect a bureaucrat to reallocate resources.
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Agree
The government should cut spending, period. Government has no money of its own. All money the government spends comes from taxpaying citizens. That money is best left in the pockets of the individual earner instead of being spent by bureaucrats on things like gender studies in Pakistan, studying shrimp walk on a treadmill, corporate welfare, Covid supplements to felons on death row. Thirty trillion dollars in national debt, and run-away inflation, is destroying the value of the dollar.
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Make the Donald Trump tax cuts permanent. As a result of those tax cuts, the United States has collected more tax dollars than ever before in the history of the country. President Biden wants Elon Musk to pay his fair share. Elon Musk paid eleven billion in taxes. How much is his fair share? We don't have a tax problem. We have a spending problem.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
The Constitution states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.." Year after year, the Supreme Court hears disputes involving religious liberty. Must a baker forego his religious beliefs to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple? Should adoptions be allowed through a church? Can an employer avoid providing birth control benefits contrary to religious beliefs. The Supreme Court protects legal freedom.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
The business of business is business. Requiring business to accommodate religious beliefs is too disruptive to business. To accommodate one religious belief must accommodate all religious beliefs. Should you work in a butcher shop if your religion prohibits eating beef? Should a business make room for you to pray every four hours? What if your religious garb conflicts with a company's required uniforms? What if your religion requires you to smoke hallucinogens? We must protect business.
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
The Constitution says Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Churches are given certain exemptions but cannot advocate for political candidates, although they can advocate for issues. These seem reasonable separations. However, the State has a monopoly on education. Churches provide schools that are every bit as good as, possibly superior to, state run schools but do not get taxpayer funding. This should change.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
There is no question certain vaccinations are in the public good. Measles, polio, diphtheria, smallpox, tetanus, whooping cough. Therefore, it seems reasonable to allow proven vaccinations to protect staff and the public. So, the circumstances would be proven vaccinations. Currently the issue is Covid vaccinations. Covid vaccinations are not proven and have shown disturbing side effects. The circumstance, therefore, would be to not allow unproven required vaccinations.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
D. Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded. Government is the least efficient and most expensive way to provide any service. Take government out of it, close down the bureaucracies, let free enterprise do its magic. Competition will improve service and bring down cost. Doctors will tell you government intervention strangles them in paperwork. That time should be spent benefiting patients instead of paperwork.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
C. The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. We've made so many mistakes over the years. We've supported dictators. We've spent billions on foreign aid. We provided financing for NATO when the countries most directly benefiting from NATO have not supported it financially even though they were able. We can't do everything for everybody. We need to fix our own home.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
Palestinian officials have been offered abundant opportunities to settle the issues and a road to peace but have turned down all offers in favor of continued foreign aid that has enriched a handful at the top and left the populace struggling. It's time to turn off the spigot. It's time to take away the punchbowl. I support the Abraham Accords put into place by President Donald Trump that paved a way forward to peace in the middle east.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
China has made no secret about their plan to overtake us as the world power. They have already declared World War III on us by flooding our country with fentanyl (Britain defeated China with Opium), by stealing our intellectual property, by spying on our Universities, by undermining other countries through their Belt and Road Initiative, and by buying our politicians. China will not engage us in a traditional war. It's too expensive, destructive, and remote. We're already at war.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
We will never eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism. The best we can do is contain it. The worst case scenario would be for Iran to achieve nuclear capability. Our best hope to prevent that is to continue to build middle east strength through the Abraham Accords, and to support Israel's ability to stand as a buffer between Iran and the rest of the middle east. The earth is an island in the Universe, It's unfortunate that all of the people of the earth cannot live together in peace.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
The current administration is not doing anything to secure the southern border. In fact, it is actively encouraging a foreign invasion of our border. The first step to immigration reform should be to secure the border and we can do that by returning to the policies that have been cancelled by this administration. That would include the stay in Mexico program, the completion of the wall, returning criminals to their country of origin, and allowing border security personnel to do their jobs.
State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
As a Republic governed by laws, our laws must be respected. When a public or private entity refuses to follow our laws, there must be consequences. Denying State and federal funds is an appropriate consequence.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
As part of the world, our immigration options should be available to any person from any country provided they can pass a background check, provided they are self supporting, provided they show they can be and/or have been assimilated into our country. I would be in favor of a trial period demonstrating these abilities prior to allowing permanent citizenship. The criteria should be for each individual. It takes too long to become a citizen. The process, and the cost, should be reduced.
VALUES
Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Laws already prohibit discrimination and we don't need special laws for sexual orientation and gender identity. We are best served by a limited government, limited laws, and enforcement of the laws we do have. Specifically, trans males should not compete in women's sports. Caitlyn Jenner said it best. A boy flooded with male hormones that give him advantages in muscle mass, lung capacity, and skeletal strength should not be competing against women no matter what their gender identity.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
I am so grateful to have been born in the United States, the freest and most liberal country in the history of the world. What has been accomplished here is spectacular. All has been accomplished with the cooperation of peoples of all races from all over the world. Critical Race Theory that tells people of color they are victims and those who are not people of color they are oppressors does a disservice to everyone. Nothing is to be gained by this fabrication and distortion.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I do not ascribe to a particular religion or religious institution. The Judaic-Christian principles laid down in the bible are common sense rules that are the backbone of civilization. The world would be a better place if we would each treat everyone else as we want to be treated.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
Valid identification is required to fly commercially, to open a bank account, to cash a check, to buy alcohol, and myriad other activities. Certainly, protecting voting integrity is just as important as these other activities. Valid identification is just one aspect of protecting voting integrity.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
The Constitution gives the States the rights to determine voting practices. I don't know the voting laws of the various states, but I think citizenship should be a requirement. I do not want the federal government to usurp the rights of the states in determining voting laws. I'm told mail only voting is not safe. Voting is a privilege and I want it to be safe and immune to dishonest manipulation by entities within our country and by other countries.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Reparations should be given on a case by case basis to compensate an individual for a wrong committed against them For example, someone incarcerated based on fabricated testimony or evidence. Someone injured by a negligent act. Someone injured through slander or libel. Just because you exist is not a basis for compensatory reparations.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
The U.S. is not a systemically racist country. Are there racists? No doubt. There is also an element that has made a profitable industry out of playing the race card. They have scammed millions, perhaps billions, from corporations fearful of being called racist. Worse, they have enlisted gullible minions to their cause that enriches a few at the top and damages many at the bottom. Saul Alinsky devoted a whole chapter in Rules for Radicals saying you can't defend against name calling.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Agree
Green energy is folly with today's technology. It has failed California and Texas. It will fail Alaska. Windmills freeze in the cold and need regular wind and petroleum lubrication. Electric cars have a 200 mile range. Gas tanks fill in a couple of minutes. Electric cars recharge in hours. Solar panels need sun. We have communities without sun for 3 months at a time. Seventy percent of our electric comes from fossil fuel. Stop the war on oil - it's costing jobs and causing inflation.
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A) Stricter environmental laws cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. Actually, it's not the strictness that causes the cost but environmentalists using the courts to delay development that could provide jobs and an enhanced economy. The U.S. is the only industrial country that has shown improved air quality in recent years. Clean natural gas gave us that. China and India have the worst environmental records relying on poor quality coal for energy. We can fix that with our natural gas.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
I'm not a one issue voter. I believe in limited government, free enterprise, individual freedom, and national security. Especially, limited government. I want the government to be seen and not heard. I think government closest to the people is the best government. I don't want a handful of people in Washington, D.C., deciding universal issues for the country.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
As a first time candidate for public office, I'm not aware of any publicly available information to validate any of my answers - although with the internet almost anything seems possible.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
This election is to fill Don Young's Congressional seat for the remainder of his term which ends in January, 2023. By the time a replacement is selected the end of August, his seat will have been vacant five months. In the remaining four months of his term, there will be little time to do anything but address constituency needs and complete committee assignments and Congressional responsibilities. With what time is left, I will ask the staff to bring me up to speed to complete any legislative priorities.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Neutral
I agree police officers should have qualified immunity for conduct consistent with departmental policy, but if the officers disagree with that policy their duty is to challenge but not disregard the policy. Our neighborhoods must be safe from criminal activity. If we rely on police to provide that security, the police must have the assurance that we will back them as long as they follow the rules of conduct set down for them.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
I support responsible allocation of all taxpayer funds. Police Departments, mental health programs, and community programs all need appropriate funding. If police department funding is appropriate, it should not be raided for funds for other departments.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The Constitution says "....the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The best public safety protection is from enforcement of laws and taking criminals off the streets.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Disagree
It's the person holding the gun and not the gun that is responsible. The Boston marathon bombers made bombs out of pressure cookers. Should the injured sue the manufacturer of the pressure cookers? If a car driver hits a pedestrian, should the pedestrian sue the car manufacturer? It doesn't make sense. A firearms dealer or manufacturer should be responsible for providing a safe product but not for what a subsequent owner does with it.
