RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Any changes to the current Colorado law should be a vote of the people and not a legislative whim every 2 years. My personal view is that abortions are deeply personal and difficult decisions for women to make with her healthcare provider. We should have compassion for women that have to make these tough decisions. There are many healthcare reasons for having an abortions and there is a big difference between an abortion at 9 weeks and 9 months (as currently allowed in Colorado). This is not a binary issue. Any abortion is a loss of potential life and should be mourned. I oppose late term abortions unless the life of the mother is in danger. The issue that I can't reconcile with late term abortions is at what point is the life of the pre-born child being recognized and advocated for? We adopted our daughter and I'm glad her birth mother chose to carry her to full term because she has brought so much joy to our lives.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
Unless we are going to fund programs with tax dollars to assist with pregnancy, fertility treatment, and adoptions, then we should not make all tax payers fund abortions through planned parenthood or any program. Planned Parenthood can rely on private fund raising dollars to support their programs, just like private adoptions agencies rely on private fund raising.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Disagree
It is not up for us to decide the decision of life.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
I would like to see our taxes kept low, the tax code simplified and be a uniform flat tax so everyone is paying something for the government services they are receiving.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I think we need to do a line item review of the budget every year and determine which programs should be cut or reduced. I would also like to see sunset provisions in every new law that is passed in Colorado, so that after 5 years the law is reviewed to see if it is serving its intended purpose. I would also like to see every bill that is presented have a thorough economic impact analysis done to determine the net benefit and cost.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Agree
It is not the proper role of government to fund college degrees provided by private institutions. Not everyone should or needs to go to college to be a successful adult. We should support more career training, mentorships, internships and vocational training in high school so that students understand the relevancy of their education.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Never
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. Medicaid needs reform because we are relegating our most vulnerable and elderly to second class care or assisted living. The government should get out of the middle of the patient and their provider healthcare decisions. I would prefer a system that fosters innovation and efficiency versus more government controls, costly regulations, and mandates. One example is providing tax credits to individuals to get their own healthcare insurance so that it is portable and they can keep their doctors when they switch companies. It is time that we put people at the center of their healthcare decisions and not the government, employers or healthcare providers.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
No employer should be forced or coerced to make their employees get vaccinated. These are decisions that should be made by individuals and their healthcare provider. Every person's health history is different and blanket mandates should not be made by the government, schools, or private businesses.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
I grew up in the Middle East in the 1970s, I was stationed in Turkey and Saudia Arabia in the Army and led a company of paratroopers in the first Gulf War. So I understand the deep rooted origins of Islamic fundamentalism. It has developed over generations and it will take generations to resolve it. I believe at the root is for the Muslims to determine what they want their Islamic religion to stand for and join in the fight against the extreme ideology of their religion. We should not tolerate violence and always be vigilant to fight back against it. We should support groups that are trying to overthrow the Islamic zealots in Iran and other locations in the Middle East. The change needs to occur from within their own community and not with a whack-a-mole approach.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
We need to transform our immigration system to allow more guest workers to freely cross the border (with proper background checks and sponsorship) and secure the border to eliminate the free flow human and drug trafficking as well as preventing criminals and terrorist from easily entering our country.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We have a major skilled and unskilled worker shortage across all industries in the US. We could reviving our manufacturing industry if we had more labor. We also need workers for our hospitality, agriculture and construction industries. So I would support a robust guest worker visa so we can have the legal workforce we need to keep our industries and businesses running. I would also support a pathway to citizenship for those that have worked hard and paid taxes in our country.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
When 40% of school aged kids in Colorado can read, write or do math at grade level, we need to be honest and acknowledge that the current system is not working and hasn't worked for a while. Parents need to be put back in charge of their child's education. We need to provide parents with more options that best fit their child's learning style. There is no average student - every kid learns differently, has different interests, and learns at a different pace.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
People can't be self-governed if there isn't a common understanding and framework of morality.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
It is self-evident that we are all CREATED EQUALLY. Treating some differently or giving them special rights based on race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation is the definition of in-equality and discrimination.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Disagree
The government shouldn't decide who can and can't get married. It is up to their individual beliefs and whatever makes them happy.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Agree
CRT is discriminatory and immoral because it labels children based on their skin color. Every child should be encouraged to be the best version of themselves regardless of skin color and not told their abilities are limited because of what they look like. No child should be held to account for the past sins of their ancestors. CRT is a marxist doctrine to divide children and make them feel ashamed of who they are.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am Christian and believe in the love of Jesus Christ that has spread on humanity.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Proof of citizenship is requirement to vote. Whatever documentation is required to provide this proof of citizenship shouldn't be burdensome in the age of technology.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I would like to see a system similar to Florida where voters can start voting in person 2 weeks before election starts. This will require citizens to show up in person, show identification, and then vote. This will eliminate a lot of the voter roll issues that Colorado has where dead people and people who move out of state are still recieving ballots. Relying on just a signature verification for mail in ballots seems like their is an opportunity for some fraud. Only those that request a mail ballot after providing proof of citizenship and residency should receive a mail in ballot.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
No it is not a threat to domestic security. I believe there will always be some form of racism among mankind. We've made huge strides as a country to eliminate racism and their is more room to continue to improve so all people have an equal opportunity in this country.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A -
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Agree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government exist to secure our individual rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The federal government should be limited in size and scope and most decisions should be left to the local level.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Did not answer
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I've met thousands of Coloradans over the past 6 months as I've been out campaigning. People are exhausted with the partisan politics and bickering both internally with each party and externally between both parties. Most people I've met are right in the middle and just want a balanced government with common sense leadership. My priorities will be to put people over parties, not be beholden to a political party, and be an independent voice for all Coloradans. Working together we can develop and implement policies to ensure our kids are safe, our neighborhoods are safe, our schools focus on educational excellence, and we have thriving economy with good paying jobs that makes Colorado more affordable. Crime is out of control and is a tax on every Coloradan. Governments most important role is to protect people and their property. Bad legisilation passed on party lines over the past 4 years is directly responsible for this crime wave. Decriminalizing fentanyl has led to a new wave of addictions, lawlessness, and homelessness. Reducing sentencing, cashless bails, and defunding police has made crime more permissive and everyone is being affected.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We need to get the guns out of the hands of the bad guys and not restrict the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and their property. I do think more firearm safety and firearm handling should be taught and possible required for gun ownership so individuals don't accidentally harm themselves or others.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Disagree
This is a slippery slope. If someone uses a baseball bat or a 2x4 to kill another person are we going to hold the lumber suppliers responsible? Or a knife?
