QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

From the moment of conception, God has created a human life. Younger than you and I, for sure. But, none-th- less, a God-given HUMAN life was given. The life of human fertilized egg/embryo must be protected . . . both from a spiritual standpoint as well as a Constitutional standpoint. Only in the case of an imminent significant threat to the life of the mother (and prior to fetus viability) should an abortion be considered.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

As a matter of my transparency to my (future) constituents . . . In light of the Supreme Court's recent ruling to strike down Roe v. Wade . . . I will fight against and vote against any attempt in the Legislature to legalize abortion in Michigan (except as noted above). If Planned Parenthood participates in abortion, I will vote AGAINST any and every budget that provides funding to Planned Parenthood.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

Can we PLEASE leave living and dying up to GOD?! I oppose all attempts to assist a person in dying. I fully support the concept of a well-deliberated and executed Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care. In such, the person, while still of sound mind, can determine to what extent medical science should be used to prolong the event. Certainly, the document can also state at which point the person would no longer wish to receive intravenous nourishment.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Before one can properly answer this question, the question below (#2) needs to be addressed. In short, Michigan citizens are overtaxed, and over-burdened with service fees and user fees . . . and it gets worse with each administration!

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

In the past 10 years (2012 to 2021) the Michigan population is estimated to have grown 3.2%. Our state budget grew a whopping 52%. Am I the only one that sees a problem here? I would start off by examining each departmental budget from 10 years ago, then comparing it to the 2021 budget. What is the justification for the increase? That is a good place to start. More good news: I have until January 2023 to sharpen my budget-cutting knife.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

I'm a conservative . . . not a socialist. Not every job position in Michigan needs a college degree. Why put the burden of taxation to fund college on the backs of families that won't ever need to go to college to earn a living. We need plenty of skilled mechanics, factory workers and others. Not fair to tax them and make them pay for someone else's college career.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Absolutely not! Michigan Constitution (Article I, section 4) gives people the "liberty to worship God according to the dictates of his own conscience." Forcing a person or business owner to violate their moral or religious beliefs is unconstitutional. I will oppose that legislation. If it passes, I will knock on Matt Deperno's door (Attorney General) asking him to challenge it as unconstitutional.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

Initially, I don't see any justification for CLOSING down any church that holds God in esteem. If law enforcement has credible knowledge that illegal activities are taking place in a church . . . then get proper authorization, warrant or court order from the Judicial System . . . they may exercise the warrant to apprehend the suspects/perpetrators and evidence specified in the warrant, THEN LEAVE! The MI Constitution does NOT protect Satanic worship. A Satanic "church" MAY be shut down!

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

Hmmmm "funded by the government." What you mean is paid for by the taxpayers. Essentially, the only money that the government has is what is TAKEN from the people in terms of taxes, user fees and service fees. C seems to be the logical option at this point. However, I could consider giving people the OPTION to Opt-Out of paying Medicare taxes, and going it alone in old-age. Will have to think that through more thoroughly.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Some people may not like this answer, but it is the CONSTITUTIONALLY CORRECT answer. Private business owners (who receive no government funding or tax help or incentives) have the 1st Amendment right of assembly. They get to choose who they want to associate with. If they require their employees to be vaxxed. That is their right. The employee has the right to look elsewhere for a job. Now according to the Nuremburg Code experimental medical treatments on humans without their consent is immoral and unlawful. The COVID Vax was admittedly untested using normal drug testing protocol. It should have NEVER been made mandatory for any reason in the United States or Michigan. It could be made available on a voluntary basis but not required. Even if tested and proven effective, vax should NEVER be mandated to anyone. Even now-a-days, the mothers of newborn babies may opt out of proven vaccinations. THAT is the best policy. TRUTH, education and voluntary decisions.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

Shall we start off by establishing an important fact: In the opening paragraph of the Mayflower Compact, the Pilgrims acknowledged that their purpose in coming to the New World, was "for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith." Shall we all acknowledge that we are founded out of a Chrisitan theology? Let's start of by building a wall on the southern border and stopping illegal immigration. That will plug the hole for beginners. Islamic terrorism, as well as Communist China, are known to be sworn enemies of this country.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

It seems to me that the BDS movement would be in contradiction to results of the Israeli Arab conflict which concluded 1948. As I understand history, Israel has held the same land since their statehood was recognized by the United Nation in 1948. The surrounding Arab nations want to eradicate Israel and its rightful claim to at least part of the Holy Land.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

Without control of our own borders, it is impossible to remain a sovereign entity. We need physical barriers with 21st century surveillance and border patrol protection. We have enough problems of our own without encouraging other problems to cross our borders, terrorists, drug contraband, human trafficking and indigents.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

First of all, STOP student visas and work visas until the U. S. has demonstrated the ability to track those people and deport violators. For legal permanent immigration, the U. S. should use the same "merit system" that almost every other country uses: What skills do you have? What value can you provide for our country? Can you be a citizen that carries your own weight and won't become a drain on our generosity? Do you have enough personal resources that will allow you to settle here, learn the language, find a job and not become a drain on our social welfare program? Etc. Humanitarian immigration has been badly abused and must be strictly defined, controlled and monitored. For example, if a person from Nicaragua is under persecution, religious or otherwise, and asks for refugee asylum at our southern border one must ask: How did they make that long journey? Where did the money come from? They passed through Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico to get here . . . why couldn't they ask for and receive help from those countries? Is there proof that they tried to find asylum in those other countries? GOOD candidates for legal immigration would be relatives of immigrants or other family members already living successfully in the U. S. One possible scenario would be that the relatives should assume LEGAL responsibility for the immigrant's successful integration into the U.S. Provide them with a place to stay, or to help them pay for it until they are able to exist independently. The sponsoring relative would be legally responsible for the periodic reports to the department of immigration concerning progress of their relative. We are far too generous concerning the Open Door policy.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Agree

Our entire economic system in this country is based on the notion that "competition is good." By restricting the choices available to parents, public schools have deteriorated into a cesspool of Critical Race Theory, transgenderism where boys dress up like girls and attack girls in the restrooms and dismal SAT scores. By opening up the educational landscape of choices for parents, public schools will have to improve to compete for students. EVERYONE will benefit from competition for students.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Again, in the words of John Adams: Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Gender identity is established by a person's chromosomes. To think otherwise is a sure sign of mental illness.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Strongly Agree

Not only that, the Michigan Constitution agrees: Article I, section 25: . . . "To secure and preserve the benefits of marriage for our society and for future generation of children, the union of one man and one woman in marriage shall be the only agreement recognized as marriage or similar union for any purpose."

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Actually, as I understand CRT, it takes it a step further. It identifies "white privilege" as the racism that permeates through our entire western society, being the principal cause of inequality and injustice. Hogwash! All human nature is corrupt. We are "fallen" creatures in need of redemption. Don't blame it on someone's skin color or ethnicity. Blame it on Satan. This is an issue that is common to all human creatures. Only by the grace of God can we overcome this fault.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I walked to the front of the congregation on Easter Sunday 1978 and accepted the Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. That would make me a "born again" Christian. And, I've been working on that ever since. Fall short often, but repent, pick myself up and keep on moving . . . hopefully toward the CROSS. Currently attend an unaffiliated Baptist congregation. Thanks for asking.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

I like the SecureMIVote petition drive in Michigan: Positive identification to register. Positive identification to request and absentee ballot. Photo ID if voting in person. State will provide photo ID free of charge. No outside money from private sources to administer any aspect of the election procedure. On another note, the republican-controlled legislature in Michigan sent a couple dozen election-related legislative bills to the democrat-governor and she vetoed them all. By labelling them "bills" the Michigan Constitution REQUIRES that they be processed under Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. That is the ONLY place the governor has veto power in Michigan. If the Legislature, instead, passed these same election law changes as "joint resolutions" they could have been processed under Article II, section 4 of the Michigan Constitution and been EXEMPT from the governor's veto power. Seems to me the republican controlled Legislature uses that ploy to beg the public for more campaign contributions and more republican legislators so they can overcome the veto with a 2/3 majority. I am tired of being played for a fool. I hope the citizens of Michigan are tired of it too. God fearing patriots need to take control of the Michigan Legislature and send those power brokers packing! It's time to return the Michigan Legislature back to the people it is supposed to represent, instead of the special interest republican power brokers. Besides all that . . . we have enough election laws on the books. What we are missing is a state attorney general that is willing to enforce the election laws that are already on the books. We live in a very corrupt state. Hopefully, the people of Michigan will elect Matt Deperno as our next Attorney General!

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Maybe on a localized basis. But nationwide, I think not. A far greater threat to domestic security is the ideological absurdity of the far left. They have no qualms about using violence to upset domestic peace and tranquility. Witness: BLM and Antifa vandalism, rioting and looting last summer. Those were anarchists masquerading as racial marauders. One of their primary demands was to defund the police so they could be left alone to ransack a city and terrorize people. Make no mistake. Those were anarchists. I was alive and clearly remember President Kennedy, the race riots of 1966-67, Dr. Martin Luther King and more. Those WERE race riots fomented from our nation's slow retreat from institutionalized racism. We have "come along way, Baby." Perfect? Not yet. Getting better? ABSOLUTELY. There is not a single time that I don't look at a black man and wonder how on God's green earth could we have ever treated those people so cruelly in this country. My heart breaks for the history they had to endure. But God is gracious. He equipped this nation with enough men of courage and justice to overcome the inhumanity. Are we perfect? Heaven NO. But, I honestly believe the vast majority of Americans recognize the injustices of the past and long for the day when "my four little children will grow up in a nation where they are not judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." God rest your soul, Dr. King.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

First, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to quantify the dollar amount necessary to reconcile reparations. Rather use that money to promote advantages to under privileged people of all races. We should vow to never let that injustice happen again to any class of citizen . . . man, woman, child, elderly, race, ethnicity.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

A To elaborate. We have far too many demagogues with loud voices spouting unproven rhetoric. Witness: Al Gore and Michael Moore. Instead, let us unleash the ingenuity of the American people to meet any challenges that MAY evolve. God gave us the earth with these instructions: be fruitful and multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it. I believe God will direct our intellect to help fulfill his command . . . as long as we hold him FIRST in our lives.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Agree

Basically agree, but would like to understand more of the mechanics. I am open to contrary information that might sway my preliminary opinion.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

Michigan Constitution Article I section 1 pretty much sums it up for me: All political power is inherent in the people. Government is instituted for their EQUAL BENEFIT, SECURITY and PROTETION.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Wasn't prepared for this . . . interview, Kortny Hahn, Cheboygan Daily Tribune (khahn@cheboygantribune.com). Interview: Steve Schulitz, Alpena News, 989-657-4441. Military service records can be made available. My FB channel (Larry Hull One Zero Six) has a recorded livestream feed of the 3 way debate I participated in. On the EVENTS tab of my website is a 14 minute audio recording of a presentation I made in Birch Run, Michigan. As the chairman of the local county GOP "election integrity subcommittee" I drafted several election integrity resolutions for GOP consideration (can be provided). Only 4400 more characters to go.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

NO, never.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I'm a Vietnam vet, retired naval officer with pension. I've been retired with my wife for 9 years. Coming out of retirement because of the trajectory of our state and nation. I fear for my grandchildren's future. I'm getting back into the fight to see if I can help put us back on to a positive trajectory. In Michigan, we have republican power brokers that control both the House and the Senate. They have a strangle hold on every legislator. They control the entire agenda for the Legislature. In other words, elected legislators are NOT free to represent their constituents. Instead, they must conform to the desires of the power brokers, or suffer the consequences. I am NOT looking for a new career, like so many candidates are. I am on a mission for my grandkids. I want to equip the legislators with a battle plan than neuter the power of the power brokers. Only then, can we expect to make meaningful, positive changes in Michigan, like: fair elections, lower taxes, lower car insurance rates, lower utility rates (break the monopoly), less business regulations, constitutional carry, cut bureaucratic fat and overhead, improve business environment . . . and on and on and on.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Person must be of age of majority. Person must not have been adjudicated as mentally incompetent. Convicted felons with the exception that after a certain length of time and they have been lawful citizens, right to own is reinstated.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree

ABSOLUTELY NOT!
