QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

This is a tough one, and often used as a "gotcha", by advocates of abortion, and life deniers. While tragic, the abortion of an unborn child when the life of a mother is a stake is understandable, and I would think forgivable, although I can not pretend to have the 100% correct answer to this question. I can not see any other reason that it is morally or spiritually right to exterminate the most vulnerable of our population. However, I would personally encourage all women facing this horrible, and unimaginable, decision to seek guidance, pray, and lean heavily on faith. I am currently praying daily for a new Mom that is in the end stages of Cancer, after choosing the life of her unborn baby over her own. I find her courage and sacrifice inspiring, and recognize it as the greatest act of love. To give ones life for another.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

I can not see how any suicidal person can be found competent to make this decision for themselves. The mere idea of someone in a suicidal state of mind being legally allowed to make any life changing decisions goes against what makes a society moral and logical.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Taxation is theft. While there is a need for money to protect the United States, and build and maintain infrastructure, the tax and spend policies of all governments in the United States has gotten beyond out of hand. I plan to fight in Carson City to maintain the status of Nevada as a personal income tax free state. I plan to reverse the increases in the commerce tax in recent years, reverse the mining taxes passes in the last Legislative Session, eliminate sales taxes outside of resort areas, and eliminate the many fees and taxes for licenses, registrations, permits, etc. Nevada should strive for growth due to being the most tax friendly State in the Nation!

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Perhaps the question would be easier to answer if it was worded "what government spending wouldn't you reduce?" The State Government has it's hand in way too much in Nevada. I support building and maintaining necessary infrastructure, like roads, bridges, State Parks, and public buildings to administer these things. I support law enforcement and fire protection services. I see these things as necessary expenditures. But I see endless unnecessary spending and overspending. I watch road construction projects go on repeatedly in the same areas, only for the road to remain exactly as it was after months of construction. I see waste everywhere. Legislatures need to reign in wasteful spending. I will open up things like education to the free market, through school choice programs. Private enterprise has shown historically to operate far more efficiently than government ever will. This opening of government operations to the free market will not stop at schools. We will reach a balanced budget doing these things.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Beyond emergency medical care, which should never be denied, everyone should have a right to serve, or not serve, whoever they'd like. The free market should not be stifled by government intervention.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

None. Hebrews 10:25 warns against the forsaking of assembly. No matter what is going on in the world, people deserve the right to choose whether or not they want to take any inherent risk in practicing their religious observances. Government has no right, under the First Amendment of the Constitution, to limit gathering in the name of God.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

My first reaction is D. However, there are cases where a societal safety net is in order, and compassionate. There are countless obvious overhauls needed, and that should be the focus rather than spending energy on the unlikely outcome of total elimination of government programs. So my answer is C. And I do believe vetting must be increased and enforced before anyone gets these benefits.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

None. If someone is concerned and believes a vaccine is the answer, it is their right to get it, and none of their business or concern if anyone else chooses to do the same or not. If you believe your vaccine works, you shouldn't be concerned with whether or not I got mine.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

Relentless pursuit and elimination of all enemies that mean to do harm to the United States of America.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

The promised land is exactly that.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

Walls work. Period.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

I am a believer that there are individuals all over the world that desire to contribute to, and be a huge benefit to, American society. These people will gladly take the right path. They will willingly go through a proper application and vetting process to get here. They will assimilate and desire to become full fledged citizen's of the United States of America. These people should be welcomed, in reasonable and limited numbers, based on their demonstrated desire and ability to contribute to this great Nation. I also recognized the need for a place for legitimate political and religious refugees to find refuge. However, refugee status has been grossly abused and must be reigned in. We can not allow financial refugees, it just isn't practical to take in every disadvantaged person on the planet. We also must not ignore first country rules. If a refugee finds refuge in another suitable country, then they are no longer refugees. We can not continue to adopt refugees from their current country of refuge, simply because they want an easy path to American residency.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Agree

As a current homeschooling Father, who's children have gone through public school for five years, private school for two years, and now homeschooling for their fourth year now, this issue is very near to my heart. We put our children in private school when the NV ESA's passed. Then the Democrats refused to allocate the funds for the program. We waited two years. Then we chose to homeschool. School choice will be one of the first issues I tackle in Carson City.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Strongly Agree

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Bible Believing Christian. I believe the Bible is the true God-Breathed (inspired) word of God, and is true, accurate, and perfect. I believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. It is the gift of God, not of works.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

I would require Photo ID to vote. I would also protect poll observers and election observers, giving them unrestricted access to observe the polls and election centers as long as they do not interfere with the voting process. I would allow them to record irregularities in the polling place with video or photographically. excepting for any recording of a voters actual ballot markings. I will fight to eliminate Dominion voting machines. I was a poll watcher during the 2020 Presidential election and saw first hand the many reforms that are needed.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

No. While racism will probably always exist I have watched in my lifetime that racists are not relevant in society. Racists are easily overcome, as they are weak and spineless individuals. In America anyone can become anything, in spite of the few misguided and ignorant individuals that choose racism as a way of living and being. I know that racism is used by certain politicians as a virtue signaling jumping off point, but their claims are unfounded and exaggerated. We need to not play into that, but encourage all Americans to move forward in spite of a few ugly people.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

A. And again, the free market is the solution to environmental issues. No one wants to live in a polluted and destroyed world. No one wants to watch animals go extinct. No one. If industry is destroying the world that we live in people will not tolerate it. Of course there are certain protections that must be in place, to avoid situations like Hinkley CA (Erin Brockovich), or Valdez Alaska. But for the most part, Government needs to stay out of the way. Over-regulation only hurts the middle class.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Strongly Agree

Drill baby drill!

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To protect the Nation and provide necessary infrastructure.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

As a non politician there isn't much of this available. My Facebook page is facebook.com/john4nevada, my Twitter is https://twitter.com/Johnny_Schmitz_, my Instagram is https://www.instagram.com/john4nevada/

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I came to Las Vegas in 1996 at 18 years old. I arrived on a Greyhound bus with a duffle bag, a guitar, and $15.00. In the Nevada of 1996 it was easy to get a job, and get on my feet. In that Nevada, the Nevada of twenty-six years ago, anyone with willingness and tenacity could become anything! Jobs were abundant, as a result of the ease of which an entrepreneur could establish a business and employ others. I have spent the last two and a half decades working with and working for such entrepreneurs. The Democrats have legislated and taxed those opportunities out of existence. In the Nevada that the Democrats have created, a guy like me would never make it, as I so easily did. As your State Senator I will fight to bring that business friendly environment back to Nevada. We will end government overreach, reverse the commerce tax increases of recent years, and eliminate bureaucracy that stands in the way of successful business. I have five jobs today. They are all extremely important. The first two are that of Husband and Father. Our oldest is 24 and graduated from a CCSD indoctrination institution. We saw first hand, and fought the indoctrination that was pushed. We decided that we would take our twins out of public school. When they were in fourth grade the Nevada Legislature passed, and the Governor signed, NV ESA’s into law, allowing for school choice. The program just needed to be funded by the next legislature. The NV ESA office assured us to just put our kids in the school of our choice and the funding was just a technicality, we would be reimbursed. The Democrats took power the next legislative session, and refused to move the money to fund the program. We were blessed enough to be able to keep our children in private school, then later we began to homeschool them. Many others are not so fortunate. For that reason I will fight relentlessly until every parent in Nevada can choose where and how their child is educated. The money must follow the child, not the other way around. The next job that I have is in the Tradeshow industry. This is what I do to provide for my family. This is what keeps us in a home, insured, and fed. Two years ago Steve Sisolak closed my industry. It was the last industry allowed to reopen. I and thousands of others were out of work for a full year and a half. As State Senator one of my priorities will be to limit the power of the Governor. No matter who the Governor is, they must not have the ability to so significantly restrict businesses again without calling a special session of the legislature. Any statewide actions must come from the representatives of the people! My fourth job is I am servant of God. Steve Sisolak not only put myself and so many others out of work, he also closed our churches. I went door to door to help members of my church get their needs met. I met many elderly folks that had lost their only weekly human connection. The sadness I saw was heartbreaking. I teach first graders in Sunday school. The amount of time that they lost away from their friends and schoolmates was unforgivable. The Governor must never be permitted to shut down schools and churches again! For any reason. I will fight for that! My fifth, but just as important job is that that of a Citizen of the United States and the Great State of Nevada! I take this job seriously. For many years I have participated in campaigns, giving time and money. I have registered people to vote. I have relentlessly pursued and sometimes maybe even harassed those in office demanding that they represent our values and our interests, and not just their own. I never imagined that I would be running for office, but over and over I have seen unacceptable practices by those that have run for office. It certainly is no dream of mine to be a politician. The last straw was the 2020 election cycle, when I volunteered as a poll watcher throughout early voting and on election day. I saw countless irregularities, and some actual fraud. Additionally, I will fight to de-legislate and deregulate relentlessly. I will fight to take bureaucracy off the books. We will eliminate stifling and over-reaching laws. We will make Nevada free again. We were once one of the freest States. Today because of over-regulation you would be lucky to be able to open a restaurant with a quarter of a million dollars! That level of nonsense puts the American Dream out of reach for many. If you want to build a casita at your home, on your own property, you can count on a cost of $75,000 to $100,000. All due to regulations. You should have the right to do what you wish with your property, as long as it doesn’t infringe on the rights or threaten the safety of others! There shouldn’t be exorbitant fees, studies, permits, etc. I will continuously look for solutions to get petty laws and regulations out of your way, so that you may live as easily and comfortably as possible. I want to hear and act on constituents ideas on these things as well.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Neutral

I do not have the necessary life experiences to have a clear position on this. I will seek the feedback of officers and individuals affected by real life situations before I formulate an opinion on what is right in this situation.

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Neutral

I am currently aware of police funds that are already used by the local police departments for community programs. I do not however have enough information to have an opinion on this. I would need knowledge of what funds are being used for before I can realistically decide if they should or should not be shifted.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

None, with one exception. Those who have been convicted of crimes in which they have done, or threatened to do physical harm to another person, with a firearm or weapon, should be preemptively excluded from carrying firearms. There should however be a path for individuals to demonstrate that they have been rehabilitated, and consideration given by qualified legal and mental health professionals as to whether or not that persons right to bear arms should be eligible for restoration.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
