QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Agree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Strongly Agree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I support government funding of public education in our nation, whether that is through property taxes, sales taxes, or other public revenue sources. The United States Constitution provides all kids an equal educational opportunity regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or economic status.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Conversely, school districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage can be between two individuals of the same sex.

Students should not be allowed to pray in school.

Disagree

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

It depends on the state, but generally speaking, the fundamental function of the local school board is to set policy direction on school district projects and initiatives, approve the budget and hire a superintendent.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

It depends on the state, but my view is that curriculum is best determined by on-site principals and teachers at individual schools based on student population and parent involvement. There is no single or cookie-cutter approach to determining curriculum or resources. Many of our urban schools require greater support for ELL teachers for example.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents should never be restricted from speaking during public school board meetings, insofar as they are civil and respect the meeting decorum to include time limits.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Information Technology, Personal Finance, U.S. Government (not listed above) American History, Social-Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning, Art & Music, Physical Fitness

American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.

Agree

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

In my District, Sex Ed is ALWAYS opt-in. HOWEVER, Social-Emotional Learning is not a course - it is an integral part of education and human development and focuses on the whole child.

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Agree

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Disagree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Christian, who honors a loving and forgiving God. I am a father first. I believe that love and kindness prevails over evil. I am an American first and refuse to subscribe to a political ideology which continues to divide our great nation. We must come together and respect each other's views and work together for the common good.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Disagree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Ultimately, parents should teach sex ed to children. The challenge is that this has failed to occur over the decades impacting the health and wellness of many children as they grow and mature. With parental consent, and in order to significantly reduce the rates of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections around the world, children could receive formal instruction from their respective schools about sexual health at about age 10.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; human anatomy/the reproductive system; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; All at age-appropriate times.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

As is all religions and faith-based establishments that preach/teach love, kindness, and family values.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I understand the concerns, anxieties, and fears of moms and dads, families, and students throughout our School District. I’ve talked to them, I get it – because I share them too. I also witness the difficulties our students face, the intense pressure from today’s society, and their concerns of an uncertain future. I want to be part of lifting up our students by accentuating the hopes and dreams they can achieve, despite the barriers. I also appreciate the hard work and dedication of our teachers and school staff and am dedicated to ensuring they have every tool and resource available to them to be successful in the classroom. I am a non-partisan voice, a strong believer in positive and collaborative governance, and civil discourse. With a balance approached that is laser focused on our children’s education and well-being, support from parents and families, I believe our teachers and educators can deliver a quality education that will ultimately prepare our youth for their future. As an individual who had to struggle with hearing and speech to overcome the adversity of a disability, I know the importance of a compassionate public organization dedicated to providing quality education that will prepare all our children of all ethnicities and genders, for their future. There is no problem that cannot be solved with education. I am asking for your vote for the at-large school board seat in District F. I would be honored to continue to serve and represent our families and students in Washoe County Schools.

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Disagree

There may be some exceptions based on a teacher's ability and training and overall school culture, however having access to guns in a public school setting is a bad idea and increases the risk of gun violence.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

This is not a constitutional issue. States and localities can impose school vaccination requirements today. I generally oppose requirements with exception of extreme cases.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree
