Party Primary Election Voting History for Ellen Minetto during time of residence in district and/or at current address:

  • 2020 Party Primary: Republican
  • 2018 Party Primary: Republican
  • Voted in five Republican Primaries 2008 - 2016
  • Voted in four Nonpartisan Primaries 1998 - 2006

During December 8, 2020 Board of Trustees Regular Meeting and while discussing the Sexuality, Health and Responsibility Education (SHARE) 7th Grade Curriculum, expressed concern about the immaturity of the students in 7th grade and believed the "low risk" activities could lead to something more and mentioned the Crisis Pregnancy Center should be listed as a local resource for the students as well.  Voted against approving the curriculum.

During October 27, 2020 Board of Trustees Regular Meeting, voted in favor of adopting Washoe County School District Board Resolution 20-011, A Resolution that states discrimination and harassment will not be tolerated and resolves to create a system-wide commitment to creating an unbiased, inclusive, and anti-racist society through education, and including Asian-Americans as members of the marginalized groups.

During September 10, 2019 Board of Trustees Regular Meeting, voted in favor of the high school Sexuality, Health and Responsibility Education (S.H.A.R.E.) Lesson Topic: Understanding Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity, with the following revisions:

  • a preamble to be read by the teachers
  • having a single slide for each term included on the proposed slide 3
  • inclusion of a student survey at the end of each lesson to receive feedback to be sent to the SHARE Advisory Committee on the relevance of the information to the students
  • direction to the Interim Superintendent to implement the revisions and have all lessons available for high schools as soon as possible.

During January 29, 2019 Board of Trustees Regular Meeting, wondered if the new building would have the general use bathrooms, then voted in favor of awarding Bid #11365A, Construction of new Arrowcreek area middle school, to Clark/Sullivan Construction for an estimated amount of $73,440,220.

Note: A previous Board of Trustees on October 11, 2016 actually approved the general bathroom design specifications for the middle school. The above vote approved funding.

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Agree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Strongly Disagree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I think that public education should be funded preschool through 12th grade.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Students should not be allowed to pray in school.

Strongly Disagree

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

The local school board oversees the district, including budget and policies.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The state currently sets the curriculum and determines what resources the school districts are required to have. I believe that parents, community, staff and students should have considerable input into the standards.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents have the right to speak at school board meetings at the designated time for public comment.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Language arts, Math, Science, History(Social Studies), Vocational, Fine Arts, Physical Education(Health), Basic Biology(including sexuality), Foreign Language and Personal FInance. All of these should include Technology and Social Emotional Learning, Critical race theory is a graduate-level study, so therefore does not belong in public school.

American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.

Strongly Agree

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

Sex Ed should be opt-in, which it currently is. SEL helps give all students coping skills and helps give them a sense of belonging.

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a born again Christian. I believe that Jesus is the son of God, born of a virgin, died and rose from the dead to save me from my sin.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Fundamentally it is the parents responsibility to teach sex, however the schools need to teach biology (part of Science) and health. Some parents do not know how to discuss sex with their children, so a sex education class can valuable in public school.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Physical health, consent, abstinence, contraceptive methods, human anatomy including the reproductive system, stages of pregnancy and fetal development should all be taught in a sex education course. Sex education topics need to be age-appropriate.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Neutral

A school official should not be assisting a student in transitioning their gender, but should respect a student's desire to be called whatever they want to be called, including nicknames or pronouns.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Disagree

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Did not answer

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am running for re-election for the non-partisan position on WCSD board of trustees, district B. I am one of seven voices on the board of various viewpoints which I think makes us a good board. I also will likely have the most experience on the board in 2023 and there is a learning curve with this position.

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Neutral

As long as it is legal and does not go against school policies, I do not object to a teacher having a gun.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

I believe the health care of each student is their parents' responsibility.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

I voted for mask mandates for the schools since it was a directive made by the governor and I swore that I would uphold the laws of Nevada, including directives. The most important thing was getting students back into the schools, so I voted that students wear masks.
