As a Roman Catholic, I believe life is sacred from the moment of conception. As a scientist, I know that every embryo has an entirely novel genetic code, making it a distinct organism from the mother. There are medical circumstances in which a fetus which is likely unable to survive outside the womb should be removed to preserve the mother's life - for instance, ectopic pregnancy. This should always be permitted, and is distinct from abortion. Though I personally believe it is still wrong (ending a life does not undo harm done to the mother), I can also imagine making legal allowances for incest and rape. The pragmatic reality is that New Mexico currently has no protections for life whatsoever, not even for viable pre-born babies, or to protect mothers from medical malpractice. There are a range of compromises which would still be much better than the current state of affairs, which make New Mexico one of the top destinations in the country for late-term abortion.

School choice can be a life raft for some families, but it doesn't guarantee every child access to a high quality education, which is what New Mexico truly deserves. I am particularly supportive of the public charter model, pro vided they are non-profit, enroll on a lottery, and are held to a high standard.

I'm running because I want a better life for our children. I'm tired of watching our kids be victims of violence without repercussion, tired of watching them grow up without the supports they need to thrive, tired of watching them graduate into a stagnant economy that offers them few opportunities. I am a teacher, I am an engineer, and I am a mother. I try to be the kind of person who listens more than she talks, who consults experts when needed, who collaborates with everyone willing to do the work, and who is open to new ideas and experiences. I will represent every one of my constituents as well as I can, regardless of party, faith, race, sexual orientation, or age. We are all New Mexicans, and we all deserve better.
