QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Rape, incest, when mother/baby's life is threatened
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
They should not receive funds for purposes of abortion. Funds for counseling services, offering alternatives to abortion, should be allowed.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Disagree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Not sure if you mean state or federal. Both need amending. Regarding state, marginal tax rates should be adjusted. Regarding federal, single people are paying more than their fair share. These are just two issues out of many.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Regarding state, not so much that spending needs to be reduced, it just needs to be managed better. Also, SC has a balanced budget requirement. Regarding federal, there is so much waste. I would begin with government contracting.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Agree
Yes, but on a sliding scale based on family income.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
Not sure I understand the question.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Option B. But this does not mean healthcare insurance funded by the government should be free. It should be within reach of those who do not qualify for Medicaid. Private insurance offered by employers should always be an option. Also, employer offered health insurance can often be used as a recruiting tool by companies.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Only when not doing so puts someone else at risk.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
I do not think it is possible. In addition, there is more than one kind of terrorism. Things to help mitigate terrorism might include better communication and sharing of assets between law enforcement agencies and better cooperation between countries.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Disagree
Israel should not be pressured to withdraw from occupied territories, etc., however, every Israeli citizen should have equal rights.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I do not have a problem with current immigration laws.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Neutral
If everyone when to the school they should be going to, problems could be addressed earlier and better and all schools would benefit. However, I am in favor of magnet schools. Private schools should not be funded by taxpayer dollars.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Neutral
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian but I do not believe I have the right to impose my beliefs on anyone else. Who am I to judge? I believe in the golden rule.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
It is simply not that hard to get an official photo id regardless of economic status, etc. Photo id's are needed for just about everything these days.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I am against early voting. It is getting out of control. Make Election Day a federal/state holiday. (Absentee voting should still be allowed for those in the military, out of town, over 65, health care providers, etc.).
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. Racism exists everywhere but when it is taken to extremes or used as an excuse for violence, it threatens our republic.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
Probably A but I do think we environmental laws/regulations are necessary. What we really need is a balance.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Agree
I agree but the environmental impact should be constantly monitored.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Provide defense from governments and others wishing to do us harm and to provided public services such as police, fire, medical, education.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Depends on the issue. I am definitely a fiscal conservative but I do believe there are times when a government should help (not support indefinitely) those in need.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
None
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I have my opinions but I am open-minded and will listen to others. My priorities are better management of government spending especially with government contracts and with education.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
Mental health/community programs are needed but the funding should come from somewhere else.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Background checks. Three-day waiting period.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Disagree
