RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I believe that if the end of a heartbeat defines death then the beginning of a heartbeat should define life. I believe that many use abortions as a form of birth control or an elective surgery. The value of life has lost its moral impact. Having had to do fertility to conceive my children I appreciate the gift of motherhood. However I also was told not to have any more children because of a risk of a ruptured uterus due to "windows". If a mother's life will end due to the pregnancy that is an emergency surgery. This is something I support. I am not afraid to say I am Pro-Life.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

There are enough not for profit organizations that devalue the life of an unborn baby. Let them pay for it, after all, it is these same companies pushing this sexualization in our schools. Some of these organizations have a very different value of an unborn baby; to them these babies are profit to me they could be the doctor that cures Alzheimer.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Property tax is the greatest burden on the average Illinois home owner. Our state is losing residents because they can not afford their taxes. Our senior citizens need to choose between property taxes and their medicine. We need to fix this. Our sales tax in Illinois is 6.25% but can go as high as 11% with local taxes added in. This needs to be reformed. I will never support a Progressive Income Tax which would hit small business who are already struggling the hardest. Even though our legislatures and our Governor voted that small businesses were nonessential I believe they are the cornerstone to our communities.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Let's first look at our schools. Why are there so many administrative positions? Why are our students not meeting their standards? Make sure our educational funding is spent on education and not liberal propaganda. Let's also look at our foster care system. How did so many children fall through the cracks? Why is there such a waiting period for our veterans for their assisted living opportunities. I know this personally while my Dad suffered through the horrible disease of Alzheimer. I know the doctors at Hines Hospital were fantastic but the wait time is too long. Why do our senior citizens not have a center in my district? Where is our money going? Stop funding the Liberal Loonies! Stop Illinois from being a Sanctuary state! Invest in Illinois companies and prevention of criminal youth so they are a functioning and contributing member of society. Invest in our Midwestern Values to guarantee a better future.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

The decision to pursue a higher education is a choice. Our society has become an entitled one for sure. If you want to go to college then work hard in school, get involved in extracurricular activities, apply for scholarships, grants, and loans. College is not the path for every young adult and taxpayer-funded higher education is not the right fiscal decision. Also those who received their degree need to be responsible adults and pay their debt.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Entrepreneurs, like myself, open a business because they want to have the sole responsibility of their decisions and work ethic. They have a personal passion or a gift of a trade or craftmanship and will capitalize on this. The role of our Government has been overreached and we all experienced this over the last two years. For instance HB3913 would decrease the distance of 500 feet to 250 of a sexual predator residing from a school or park. Why cant a landlord decide what is safe?

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

When our churches were closed along with our businesses and schools I honestly thought I was living in the twilight zone. Remember that show when we were kids. You probably don't remember cars being towed or pastors arrested for worshipping God in that show but here in Illinois it was very real, another overreach of government authority. The only instance would be if there is some unethical and dangerous circumstance where worshipping involved bodily harm to minors. Religious freedom is very important to my inner core and it is our constitutional right.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

C)Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. We have to understand that circumstances apply where we have to help our most vulnerable.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

I believe it is your personal choice or that of a parent of a minor to decide what their vaccination regime is. What is happening now with the loss of jobs due to employees deciding not to take the Covid vaccination is wrong. Our "essential" workers were heroes and now they are jobless! I am one of those people who decided not to subject myself to this vaccination. I have had elevated D Dimer levels and the risk was too great. Others decided it conflicted with their religious beliefs. Whatever the reason this should be a person decision not a government or employer mandate.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

I think we have many other terrorist ideologies within our country now. The drug cartels are killing our children. The open borders are making Illinois dangerous because of our status as a sanctuary state. Our freedoms will always be threatened. We need a military that is strong and leaders that are confident in their decisions. Not leaders who do not know if they are a man or a woman. We also need to stop gratifying organizations like BLM who have done nothing to help our minority communities. We have leftist politicians that have put a target on the back of our Supreme Court Justices. If we protect our borders with a strong military and intellectually competent and mentally stable leaders would be a great start.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

I am fortunate to have several friends who went through the legal process of becoming United States Citizens. In fact one of them just voted for the first time. What a privilege she felt to be able to vote. Right now we should close all borders so we can fix what the present situation is.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Agree

I believe the tax dollars should follow the children.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I believe our society is lacking a moral compass. We are living in a real life game of Monopoly. Criminals pass go and get out of jail free. Children are taught sexual positions and confusing gender concepts. Growth in schools are lacking. Why wouldn't they, we closed our schools. Depression and suicide is a pandemic now. We need a lot more than Christian values, which I am a Christian, to change our path. Accountability is necessary.

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Did not answer

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

We are teaching our children to hate! There is purposeful division in the classroom.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised in the Catholic faith. I raised my children Catholic. Now I consider myself a Christian. I believe that faith gives you a platform to guide you in your life decisions. I know I have concurred my challenges through my faith and with faith all things are possible.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

If you need an id to register for a vaccination there should be a requirement vote. Our elections need to have more integrity.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Illinois does not require identification to vote I would definitely change this. There also needs to be tighter security surrounding the process of mail in ballots. Voter Rolls need to be updated and accurate. Deceased people should not count even if it is the Democratic way.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

If a person has a different opinion they are automatically labeled racist. This is purposeful and causes division. BLM did a lot of damage to our country. Mental health is the domestic security threat. Emotionally and mentally stable people do not inflict harm onto others. The threat is not paying attention to the signs of mental illness.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Strongly Agree

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The purpose of Government is to protect people's freedom and keep them safe from crime. Obviously we need a shift in Springfield to ensure our Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

https://youtu.be/JGyJND587Ho https://youtu.be/1KSfayqLnsw There are many statements available with the news regarding my position.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

Rise up! Get involved and change the course of Illinois. We can no longer be silent and allow these disastrous Progressive movements to continue. Life has a way of shifting and changing. I prefer to call it Divine Intervention. I am a mother, a business owner, and am committed to my community where I have lived for almost 25 years. These past 3 years has brought about many obstacles and opened my eyes to the lack of common sense used in making decisions affecting our state. The division that our Government is causing and the deafening silence from our local elected officials has contributed to the failures of Illinois. The breakdown of our educational system is a great concern. There is a push towards removing the power of local school boards. This divisive new curriculum and sexualization movement of our children should not be mandated in the curriculum. Schools need to be open with in person learning. Our future leaders need to develop socially, emotionally, mentally and educationally. The ludicrous push to defund our police and the bills that have been voted on is not decreasing crime or keeping our communities safe. The motive is unknown to me, honestly who does not want our communities safe? There is no accountability for the criminals and this starts from the top down. The path towards removing guns from law abiding citizens is unjust! Our police are not the enemy and why I began Back the Blue and organized the first rally at Columbus Statue. Remember that planned and purposeful attack on our police officers? Remember who had a hotline for the antagonist and criminals who threw bricks and fireworks harming our police to file complaints? Mayor Lightfoot and our Governor along with the elected officials who remained silent have all contributed to the destruction of Chicago. The shutdown of our economy can never happen again! This was an economic failure. Removing the control of the government and the harsh threats are mandatory steps to keep Capitalism alive. Every business is essential to their livelihood and those of their employees. I am part of re-open Illinois that has been fighting against this tyrannical control. Illinois has a fiscal problem that is causing residents to flee. Taxing has increased, the pension deficit can not be ignored any longer. It is time to have a balanced budget. Illinois residents deserve to live in safe communities. Everyone is essential in God’s eyes no matter how our Governor feels about his farm animals. This purposeful division needs to end. We are stronger together. I am Christine Shanahan McGovern and I am running for Illinois State Senate in the 18th District. Stand with me in bringing Common Sense back to Illinois. I want to represent you and Illinois by passing legislation to provide better health care to our seniors, veterans and mentally ill. I want to have programs for our youth to take them off the streets meanwhile addressing the drug crisis and my plan with working with law enforcement to finally put an end to the senseless crime that is affecting our communities. Support my mission today!

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

The 2nd Amendment states that a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree
