ECONOMY

Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.

Strongly Disagree

Redistribution of income concentrates on how wealth is divided. The creation of wealth, not redistribution, is what we need to concentrate on. It is productivity and the creation of wealth that brings us the standard of living we enjoy. From the early uses of steam and waterpower to Henry Ford’s use of the assembly line to manufacture automobiles, America has been at the forefront of productivity increases with corresponding increases in the standard of living for all of its citizens.

The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.

Government spending needs to be reduced to reduce the national debt, but just as importantly, it needs to be reduced to stop government overreach and its subsequent regulatory costs to business and infringement on our freedom

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Reduce the complexity of the code. As a general guideline, no tax code should be so complex that the taxpayer should have to hire someone to complete their tax forms for them.


RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

While this statement is true it understates the issue. Religious liberty is not only codified in the Bill of Rights, it is a basic founding principle of the country. It is a basic constitutional right that the courts need to assert and zealously guard and protect.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

No business or individual should be required to sacrifice their moral or religious beliefs in their provision of products or services.

What should be the relationship between the church and the state?

Effectively none. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”


HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

The government should not be in the business of forcing anyone to be vaccinated. Having said that, it is unfortunate that this has become a political issue. Most people accept that being vaccinated against Smallpox, Polio, Diphtheria, Tetanus, etc. is a good and advisable thing to do. These vaccines work and provide protection against the diseases they were designed to prevent. Some others, such as the Flu and Covid vaccine provide limited protection, and as all vaccines, come with risks. Intelligent people can look at these vaccines and decide if they believe the limited protection provided justifies the risk of receiving the vaccine. Deciding not to get a Flu or Covid shot does not make anyone an “antivaxxer.”

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

NATIONAL SECURITY

With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.

Somewhere between B) and C). In most cases when the US has followed B. it has not turned out well. The exceptions that come to mind are South Korea and West Germany. Hopefully, Ukraine will also fall in this category. I believe we should help free countries when they are attacked and provide them a means to defend themselves. However, this needs to be done with the wisdom of Solomon and with the involvement of American troops severely limited. As noted in C. the US, importantly, needs to focus on issues regarding our own sovereignty such as the current chaos on the southern border.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Communism is the antithesis of the principles of US freedom and individual rights. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Yes, the Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

We must encourage those members of the Islamic faith who do not support terrorism and violence against those who do not share their beliefs, to speak up against the Islamic terrorists and condemn their actions.

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

America is not a racist country. Those ten thousand Haitians under the bridge in Texas were not there because they believe America is a racist country. They crossed the border because they believe that America is the land of opportunity.

God created a perfect world. Adam and Eve fell into sin. That original sin marked all mankind as sinners. God promised them (us) a savior to come from their seed. That savior was Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our (my) sins. I am saved by his death and resurrection. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” I have been brought to faith, not by myself, but through the work of the Holy Spirit and I am saved, not by works, but by faith.

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Generally voting practices are the province of the states not the federal government. I suggest: 1) Registration to vote at least 30 days prior to the election (ID required to register). 2) Election Day the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. 3) No early voting (election day is election day) 4) Absentee ballots with application (no indiscriminate mailing out of ballots). 5) ID required to vote.


EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

It is unfortunate that the left has tried to separate Americans on the basis of demographics – Rich versus Poor – Male versus Female – Old versus Young, etc. We are all uniquely American, and our coins state it succinctly “E Pluribus Unum,” out of many one. We need to return to our American values; we need to again teach American history in our schools. The true history of America as the cultural melting pot of all races, creeds, and nationalities.


ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

I cannot select either A) or B). It simply depends on the law and what we are restricting. I think few of us would argue that the clean air and water that we currently enjoy have not been worth the cost. Nor do I think that many of us would say that engineering new ways to effectively use renewable energy is not a good idea. However, to immediately stop the use of fossil fuels would indeed cost too many jobs, cede even more power to the federal government, and have an inordinate and unacceptable impact on our standard of living.

Conservative

I am a strong believer that that government governs best which governs least. As such I support parent’s rights in education, wealth creation not redistribution, and stopping government overreach and its subsequent regulatory costs to business and infringement on our freedom. I support the break-up of the education-media complex and support free speech and the diversity of thought. I believe property rights are a key part of wealth creation and need to be protected.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I am not a politician. I am an engineer, but more importantly I am a citizen of northern Illinois. We are builders and workers. We are farmers that feed the world. We are creators of value and wealth. America, and thus Americans, have enjoyed the greatest standard of living in the world. That standard of living did not happen by accident. It was created by a free and industrious American people coupled with the right to private property and economic capitalism. That is the bedrock upon which the foundation of America sits, and it is a truth that once again needs to be taught in the schools and revered in Washington. To that end, I will work: • To stop the DOJ-FBI interference in parents’ rights to determine what is taught in their children’s schools • To reign in government spending and its ensuing taxation when funded and Inflation when unfunded • To stop Government overreach and its subsequent regulatory costs to business and Infringements on our Freedom • To stop the attack on Free Speech by working to break-up, the Social Media Companies • To work to break-up the education-media Complex and support diversity of thought not echo-chamber Speech • To protect the Right to Life • To protect Individual Rights – The right to bear arms, freedom of speech and freedom of religion. It is time that we again recognize that America is the land of opportunity. That America’s success is based on a constitutional system of government that protects the rights of its citizens and rewards them for individual creativity, initiative, and hard work. Those are my values and I believe those are the values of the citizens of northern Illinois. I want to go to Washington and work to make those the principles by which America is governed.


CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I do not support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs. However, in that many of the contacts that police have are with people who do have mental health problems, it is imperative that we also fund mental health programs appropriately.


2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

The right to bear arms is a Constitutional right. Additional gun control laws only impact law abiding citizens while doing virtually nothing to protect public safety. Currently, the largest number of gun deaths occur in jurisdictions with the most stringent gun control laws. We need to ensure police protection for all our citizens so that they may feel safe in their neighborhoods. We need to protect and educate all children regardless of background and economic status so that they do not feel the need to join a gang or resort to violence. We need to reaffirm the value of life and instill moral values and responsibility throughout society. To accomplish this, we need to take action to strengthen the family, to support local non-profits, to partner with religious institutions, and to strengthen our schools and improve the educational system.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
