QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Agree

The strength of a society is dependent on the strength of its families. Societies that do not care for their most vulnerable populations deteriorate as a whole. I value human life and the sacrifices made by members of society to protect that life.

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

Schools are meant to be a support for a community's families. Utah's public school Health Standards include several components to help students make decisions related to pregnancy. Preventative topics include goal setting, discussions on the "Success Sequence", healthy teenage friendships, fetal development, and the benefits of sexual abstinence. The standards also include discussions around adoption as an option for an unintended pregnancy and a review of Utah's Newborn Safe Haven Law.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

Governments were never intended to guarantee outcomes for individuals. Our Constitution was established to protect individual rights not to secure things for its citizens. There are policies governments can implement to empower individuals in their life choices. For Example, education is one of those powerful tools.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

The Ten Commandments should be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.

Neutral

I believe people have a right to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience. For many, religion provides purpose and direction in life. The inclusion of various religions and beliefs within communities is fundamental to a civil society.

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

I support the wording in Utah's current law: "A student may express the student's beliefs about religion in homework, artwork, and other written or oral assignments free from discrimination based on the religious perspective of the student's submissions" Additionally, Parents and students may opt out of any provision within the school setting that violates their religion or right of conscience. Utah Code 53G-10-205

NATIONAL SECURITY

I support boycott, divestment, and/or sanctions (BDS) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

Neutral

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Agree

There are many ways to maintain peace, such as strong families, a well-educated citizenry, clear communication with foreign entities, and a strong military.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

Education is a responsibility of the states. Dismantling the U.S. Department of Education needs to be more than just shifting requirements to other federal agencies; this alone adds more complexity and unnecessary work at the state level. Congress needs to change the laws and policies, because as long as there are requirements on the federal books, states have diminished control.

I support taxpayer funding of public education from Pre-K through college.

Agree

I support parents in making the best educational choices for their children. An educated citizenry is of great value to a free nation. Some of the work I have done at the state level has been to revise Utah's vision statement for education. Vision: Uphold and strengthen our Constitutional Republic; provide for themselves and their families; Pursue personal goals; Engage in post-secondary opportunities; Embody strong moral and social values; and Participate in civic responsibilities.

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Parents and the local board should ensure that the content and resources in public schools protect parents' interests and children's safety.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

Mathematics, Language Arts, American History, Art and Music, Science, Civics, Physical Fitness, Personal Finances, Foreign Language, Information Technology, and Vocational Learning.

Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?

Equity of opportunity allows everyone the ability to learn, succeed, and grow.

VALUES

Children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming including drag shows, explicit materials in schools and libraries, and other public venues.

Strongly Agree

Adults are responsible for protecting children! Schools have limited time and resources; therefore, the content children are exposed to should be carefully chosen within a school. A great deal of trust is placed in our school system, and with that trust comes heightened responsibilities to care for and nurture all children in an environment that doesn't harm

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Agree

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

I love this language in Utah law: "A parent possesses a fundamental liberty interest in the care, custody, and management of the parent's children... The integrity of the family unit and the right of a parent to conceive and raise the parent's child are constitutionally protected...to raise the parent's child without undue government interference is a fundamental liberty interest that has long been protected by the laws and Constitution and is a fundamental public policy of " Utah. 80-2a-201

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in a loving Heavenly Father who wants the best for us. I believe God answers prayers and is a God of miracles. He sent His Son to atone for the sins of this world and to create a way for us to return to live with Him. Families are a divine design to assist us in succeeding in this life and to bring us joy. I believe God honors our choices and the natural consequences that follow.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

Parents should be the primary teachers of human intimacy and discuss the value of human relationships and life with their children. Health Education classes in the upper grades can supplement this by teaching about goal setting, the success sequence, human reproduction, fetal development, stages of pregnancy, and protection from relationship violence or abuse.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

Voting is a citizenship right and the responsibility of each citizen. Demonstrating citizenship through a photo ID is an easy way to verify people who qualify for voting in elections.

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

Women have worked hard to succeed in sports. They deserve a fair playing field to excell in. Private spaces are meant to be just that: private and safe.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I believe in Second Amendment protections.
