QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

To save the life of the mother.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Disagree

This issue has so many "loop holes" and relies on incomplete medical knowledge. Many people who have been diagnosed with terminal illnesses have out-lived the medical experts, even those who have been in commas.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

The legislature and Governor have made considerable progress in reducing the tax burden. I believe the next change should involve real estate tax formulas. As it is now, we are being taxed on unrealized gain on Real Estate. Also, real estate taxes should be linked to the services provided to the real estate. Other services should come from other revenue streams.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

At this point in time, I believe we have a balanced budget.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

Not every student wants or needs a college education.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

No! If a business or individual does not want to provide a service based on their core beliefs, the customer or employee may go elsewhere.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

The government should not close churches. The government may offer warnings but it should be the individual church leaders who make the decision to close or stay open.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

C - BUT, I believe some of the programs should be phased out over time. Whenever the government is involved, the costs increase and "best practices" are regulated by non-medical bureaucrats, hampering the physician's discretion.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

I don't believe in mandated vaccinations of any sort. I believe vaccinations should be recommended but not mandated. I have witnessd debilitating vaccine side-effects, so this should be a personal decision to accept or reject the risk.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

I'm not sure we can eradicate the threat, but we can be vigilant.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Disagree

I need more information about this topic.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

This is a Federal issue. I'm not sure what we can accomplish at the state level. That said...As a world traveler, I have seen how other countries protect their borders and their citizens. We need to do the same.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

This is another federal issue. We should do whatever we can at the state level to welcome and encourage contributing, legal immigrants. Our federal immigration laws need to be revamped. My husband & I have hosted 9 foreign exchange students and have helped numerous international friends as they tried to remain in the US legally, following all the rules. We have known more ILLEGALS who simply ignore the law and run "under the radar."

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Agree

We need to ensure that our public schools are strong, vibrant and adequately funded, BUT at the same time, that parents have the right to educate their children as they see fit. I have heard the arguments against the various versions of "School Choice." It appears that most of the concerns can be answered with facts from other states where the concept has been embraced.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Our government was founded on the Judeo-Christian principles. We need to strengthen those foundations.

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

We already have "equality" laws that have created more divisiveness than they solved. We need to be gender, race, and creed neutral or "color-blind" as was the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Strongly Agree

I believe we should acknowledge "unions" but that traditional marriage is a fundamental of a strong society.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

This is a seriously flawed theory.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian. I believe in the death & resurrection of Christ, the Holy Trinity and the Holy Bible.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

A photo ID is needed for almost every aspect of our lives. Voting is a civic responsibility and privilege.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Same-day registration should be treated as a provisional vote, counted only after the voter's registration can be verified. Also, proof of residency should be limited to services attached to the property. Bank statements and cell phone bills may be emailed with any address. Out-of-state driver's licenses should only be accepted if the voter moved to Iowa less than 30 days prior to election. Our laws state that one should apply for a new dirver's license within 30 days of moving. College students who want to vote in Iowa should be required to have an Iowa driver's license, thereby avoiding the opportunity to vote in both places.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

The constant focus on race is a threat to our society. We were once considered the "melting pot" which gave us a unified strength. My immigrant great-grandparents were proud to be American. The focus on what divides us rather than what unites us is tearing us apart.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

My great-grandfather died fighting for the freedom of slaves. Another great-grandfather was the son of a French trader and an Indian princess (or so goes the family lore) We were once such a blended culture that the lines were blurred. Who would determine the reparations and who should get them? The current generations had nothing to do with the past injustices. Almost every immigrant culture suffered discrimination at the hands others.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

A- Voluntary, science-based recommendations encourage participation and allow for new evidence-based approaches without the hurdle of regulatory changes.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Neutral

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

Government should provide a foundation for a moral society through a limited set of laws. It should provide interstate commerce, public safety (police, fire, military), National security. It should also provide some measure of assistance for those who truly cannot do for themselves but it should not replace individual responsibilities or community participation.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I have written letters-to-the-editor published in the Gazette and have been interviewed by KCRG, KWWL, KGAN and various radio shows but I don't have links or copies of the interviews.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

no

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

Besides my faith, my family (6 kids, 21 grandkids) and my husband, Iowa is my life. My husband and I have started companies, employed Iowans and have been active members of our church and community. I wish to see Iowa continue to be a place people chose to raise their children, grow their businesses and enjoy their retirement. We need to resist the enticement of the mega-international corporations and their destructive influence on our culture. We need to do what we can to preserve our Iowa culture for future generations to enjoy. I will do my best to make sure well-intention laws do not have unintended consequences. This can only happen when both sides of an issue are heard and the potential results evaluated. We need to pursue judicious legislation, not knee-jerk reactions to media-fueled crises.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

There should be no additional restrictions on gun ownership

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree

This is no different than suing a boat or auto manufacturer for the negligence of a drunk driver. People kill with guns, knives, SUVs or any other number of items. The perpetrator is the wrongdoer, not the inanimate object.
