QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When the life of the mother is at imminent risk.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Bring down the rates and simplify the code.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Lots of suggestions at the federal level, including getting rid of the department of education. At the state level, if we would reject more federal dollars in order to design more efficient and cost-effective programs, unburdened by federal oversight, we would find ourselves significantly better off as a state.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Never. People should be able to make decisions for themselves as to whether or not the risk of participation in religious services in any particular circumstance is appropriate for themselves personally.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C. is probably closest to where I am, on the way to D. We've created a system where people are dependent and I think we need to move toward a system without general government-funded healthcare, but I'm also fine with state and local governments providing some options for individuals unable to provide for themselves in very limited circumstances. We've so distorted the markets at this point that we need a massive correction before the system operates efficiently.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Never. Education is great, force is not.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Did not answer
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
We could start by applying the laws already passed by Congress. Then we could build a wall and allow for an orderly system of entry into our country for those legally permitted.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
The U.S. needs an immigration system that makes us stronger, which would mean that those who come to our country are thoroughly vetted and required to provide for themselves and their families while they're here. U.S. taxpayer funds should not be used to provide benefits for non-citizens, legal or not.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Agree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that the family is the most basic unit of society, and policies that disincentive family formation and care are destructive to our nation. Conversely, strong and functional societies are built on strong and functional families with a moral framework that guides behavior.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I would like to see voting take place on one set day, rather than over a three-week period. I would also look at the laws we have in place regarding mail-in voting and drop boxes. Currently in Utah, we don't require drop boxes to be monitored and if we can't get rid them, we need to at least ensure that they're being monitored at all times. The public needs to have access to any video surveillance on the boxes as well. I also think that absentee ballots, by request of the voter, are a great way to deal with the outliers who don't have easy access to the polls but ideally, in-person voting by the majority is the best solution to deal with concerns regarding voting security.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
In recent years, from what I've read and seen, we haven't seen a large proportion of our crime being committed on the basis of race. To say that racism is a domestic security threat in the U.S. is just silly, especially in the way it's being presented at the current time.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
I don't believe in discriminating on the basis of race. Ever. So I could never support this.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A. Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To protect us from threats against our nation and to ensure our liberty (protect us from violations of individual liberty).
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
The best way to validate this is the fact that during my time in politics, I was a trusted advisor to both Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes throughout his term as speaker (strong, effective conservative) and US Senator Mike Lee.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
My legislative priorities include addressing the threat of ESG scores and their distortion of the market, ensuring that state and local governments work to protect individual liberties rather than subvert them, and reestablishing the appropriate balance between the state and federal government - federalism.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Neutral
If actions are consistent with departmental policy, officers should have immunity but some would like immunity to remain even when officers are acting outside of that policy and I can't support that.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I think someone once said that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
