QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Agree
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
ECONOMY
School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.
Disagree
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
State and county funding of public education is critical. Without an education, life and opportunity to succeed are extremely challenged. My parents had no formal education past high school, but both self educated and my father went on to have a strong career as a CPA and businessman. In 1969 my mother co-founded a popular Florida community newspaper, the Ponte Vedra Recorder, still quite viable today. My father pushed me to go to college and I'm ever so grateful that he did. My education has carried me through 40+ years of small business. I was fortunate that my father funded my higher education. If public education was funded by the state and local government from Pre-K through college it would level the playing field in the ability to receive an education; no longer would anyone be held back by socioeconomic status. The federal government needs to get out of the schools. The funds should follow the child. And I would certainly want to see additional funding of trades/technical/vocational schooling for those who didn't want to pursue higher learning.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.
Strongly Agree
School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Students should not be allowed to pray in school.
Strongly Disagree
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Under NO circumstances should any government entity, school or employer be allowed to require experimental mrRNA vaccinations. See also my response under Other Important Issues regarding childhood immunization exceptions.
EDUCATION
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
Parents first, parents should always be allowed to speak in the public comment portions of school board meetings.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
K-12 priorities: Language Arts, Math, American History, Science, Personal Finance, Information Technology, Art & Music, Physical Fitness, Vocational Learning, Foreign Language.
American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.
Strongly Agree
American civics should return to our schools! Liberty and EQUALITY are key. We must teach America's great history: all of it, the good, the bad and the ugly. By learning about the mistakes we made as a nation, we the people keep from repeating them. More emphasis should be placed on (unbiased) teaching of our U.S. Constitution, our State Constitution and our Declaration of Independence.
Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.
Strongly Agree
The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.
Strongly Agree
Return education to the states. The federal government needs to stay out of public schools. The current loss of control in education, especially with the strings we see attached to it coming from the federal government is just reprehensible. The federal government has no place telling the schools what to teach, push contact tracing, or mandate anything. It must stop. I support the parent's and guardian's rights to choose what is best for their child.
I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.
Strongly Disagree
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
What is the function of the local school board?
The function of the local school board is to hire and hold the superintendent accountable, set curriculum and vision, manage the budget, set policies for teachers, students and administration, update and maintain infrastructure. The school board must be held accountable for the academic performance standards in the school district.
Do you support the National School Board Association's characterization of parents who speak out at school board meetings as "domestic terrorists"?
No
Absolutely NOT! The National School Board Association needs to be disbanded. (I speak out at local school boards. We all should.)
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The school board has the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula, with the input from parents and guardians. Parents first.
Who has the ultimate right to control the education of children in public schools? (a) parents (b) teachers (c)school boards.
(a) Parents first. School boards have the accountability for the academic performance standards for the school district's children in public schools, but the parents are the ones who should make the choices for the child.
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am accountable to and have a personal relationship with the Triune God; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit everyday. The benefit to you: I will serve on the NHC school Board with integrity. You can trust me not to take a bribe, I will not be controlled by others with political agendas. It's All About The Children.
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
At least one NHC school has begun shared gym classes, boys and girls together to accommodate a handful of students who object to boys gym and girls gym classes.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Parents first. Parents or guardians should teach sexual education to their children and it should begin when the parents or guardians deem it is appropriate for their child.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
I do not support it. When sex ed must be taught, it should be human anatomy/the reproductive system, stages of pregnancy and fetal development, abstinence, and what consent means.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Strongly Agree
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.
Strongly Agree
EQUALITY
I support the teaching that an individual, solely by virtue of his or her race, is inherently racist, whether consciously or unconsciously.
Strongly Disagree
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Strongly Disagree
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Board of Education 2022 primary election interviews and forums are all captured on my website for easy review. Lumina News weekly editorials published 2002-2017. Wrightsville Beach Magazine monthly publisher's comments (Up Front) 2000-2022. Monthly NHC Board of Education Call to Audience (public comments) May 2021-present archived videos. New Hanover County HHS special mask mandate meetings public comments August, October, November 12, 2021, archived video and media reports. New Hanover County Commission reg meeting public comments August, 2021 and January 11, 2022 archived videos. Google Pat Bradford and New Hanover County or Pat Bradford and Wrightsville BeachMagazine and most any topic you will come up with a large number of articles and opinions I authored in editorial and in journalistic stories. There is a wealth of material out there.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am a (ticked off) mom, grandmother, aunt and great aunt. My grandson and great nephews are high school students. I was sworn in as a Guardian ad Litem, a child advocate in 2006 by the North Carolina 5th District Court. I have been a guardian, mentor and friend to children not biologically my own. I have been a small business owner in New Hanover County for more than three decades, the last 22 years as owner and publisher of the Wrightsville Beach Magazine, former owner and publisher of the weekly Lumina News, in that role I held elected officials accountable. I bring to this school board common sense, and trial by fire successes and failures in hiring/firing, budgets, payroll, insurance, accounts payable & receivable, contract negotiation, request for proposals, strategic planning, and working as a productive team, even when we disagree. In the course of my work, I have attended and reported on literally thousands of government meetings from large to small, including lobbying trips to Raleigh and Washington, DC on behalf of the community. Even though my work kept me a political outsider, I understand how government works and have a cordial relationship with many of our local elected officials and paid staff, as well as state and federal representatives, past and present. I am a leader and a warrior with real world experience ready to rebuild the school district's trust and to put children and parents first, not political agendas.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?
Under no circumstances should schools be allowed to require experimental mRNA vaccinations. This is different from immunizations currently required by NC law for K-12 school requirements: polio, measles, mumps, rubella, influenza type B, hepatitis type B, diphtheria, tetanus and so on.
I support mask mandates.
Strongly Disagree
i support parent's choice.
