QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Never. There is never a situation in the law or in the ethical practice of medicine where a preborn child’s life need be intentionally destroyed by intentional abortion, including for the purpose of saving the life of the mother. A physician must do everything possible to save the lives of both of his patients, both the mother and the child. I believe that it is important to distinguish between direct, intentional abortion and a legitimate treatment for a medical condition that a pregnant mother may choose to save her life.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

If Roe v. Wade is overturned by the US Supreme Court, how far are you willing to go to roll back North Carolina's statutory abortion law that allows abortion up to 20 weeks?

I would support legislation that prohibits intentional procured abortion in all cases.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

Would you support a limitation on chemical abortion that protects women from taking abortion pills without the care and supervision of a qualified physician?

Yes

ECONOMY

The government should do more to close the gap between the working class and the wealthy.

Strongly Disagree

While we have an obligation to provide a necessary safety net for our most vulnerable citizens, it is not the government's proper role to attempt to engineer individual economic outcomes. Experience shows us that government intervention on this level actually causes more harm than good and has been responible for producing generations of dependency. Government should get out of the way and encourage opportunity and upward mobility by reforming the tax code and reducing regulations on business.

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

I would like to see the elimination of the income tax in North Carolina and a transition here to a consumption tax. On the federal level, I would support a Flat Tax with a doubling of the current standard deduction.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

I do not support the idea of guaranteed "free college" or the cancellation of student loans. I do, however, support North Carolina's taxpayer-funded K-12 public schools, North Carolina's taxpayer-funded Community College system, and continuation of taxpayer funding for the University North Carolina system.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

I cannot imagine such a circumstance exists.

What should be the relationship between the church and the state?

Freedom from religious persecution and intolerance was a fundamental reason our nation was settled and a keystone of our system of limited government. Government has no business in the affairs of Faith and the separation of church and state is essential to protecting our religious freedom.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

While I am a small-goverment, constitutional conservative who prefers free-market solutions (including in healthcare) I believe that it is unrealistic to think that Medicare and Medicaid would be defunded, so I would choose option C. I do believe that Medicaid and Medicare can be reformed to lower cost and increase outcomes. I do not support Medicaid expansion in North Carolina to cover childless, able-bodied adults.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

The federal government should never be allowed to require vaccinations of private citizens (non-government employees), as it lacks the constitutional authority to do so. A state's public schools should respect parental rights by allowing opt-outs and exemptions. As a free-market capitalist, I believe that a private business can implement whatever policies they want within the confines of the law, however, and that includes requiring vaccinations. One is always free to seek employment elsewhere.

EDUCATION

States should allow parents to use the Opportunity Scholarship Program to fund private school for their children.

Strongly Agree

In what situations does a parent not have the right to know what their child is being taught in public school?

In no case

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Never

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

John Adams said that “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

I will fight the radical left’s assault on education by demanding curriculum transparency and the end of CRT indoctrination in our public schools

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Christian. See John 3:16 and Luke 10:27

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Require Voter ID

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Racism is a threat to domestic security insofar as the media foments racial animosity — we have seen this all too frequently over the last few years with riots and violence. Racism is antithetical to my Christian beliefs and values, and it of course remains a problem. But I do not believe that our nation is "systemically racist." It is fallacious and intellectually lazy to blame everything on racism.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

A

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To guarantee the individual rights of its citizens and to provide for our common defense.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Did not answer

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

It would be an honor to serve Henderson County in the state legislature. If I am elected, I will bring our small-town conservative values and my decades of practical business experience to Raleigh.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

There should be no restriction on gun ownership if a person is of legal age and has no prohibitive criminal or mental health record. A person's 2nd Amendment rights should never be denied without very stringent due process.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Would you support legislation that prohibits biological boys from competing on girls sports teams?

Yes
