RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers should NEVER receive taxpayer funds from any type of governmental body or entity.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
I am Pro-Life. In the very small minority of cases (approximately 2%) of total abortions which are performed due to rape or incest, then yes, any drug that works to end life should absolutely meet essential and rigorous safety standards.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
No circumstance other than in the very small minority of cases of rape and incest, which are about 2% of total abortions being performed in the USA today.
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
I am Pro-Life. In June of 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling on Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which took away the constitutional right to abortion. This essentially gave state legislatures the ability to decide laws in regard to abortion and bans on abortions. I support this decision by the U.S. Supreme Court which limits the power of the federal government in this regard. I do not support any federal monies being disbursed for abortions.
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
Bring higher paying jobs to the district; re-vitalize jobs in manufacturing; help people train for jobs of the future (high-tech, renewable energy systems through agriculture); encourage students to enter fields where the jobs are.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Strongly Agree
Student loan forgiveness generally cultivates a culture of entitlement. There are ways to plan for college expenses, and each family and student should be aware of costs and have a solid financial plan before the student enrolls in college. Not every career requires a college degree; encourage high school students, if they are so inclined, to enter into high-paying professions that do not require college degrees.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
I believe public monies should be invested based on the merit and needs of a project as it relates to the needs of the community. Preference of vendors to complete projects in the community should not be based on their ESG rating, but rather on their track record in the areas of quality and excellence of work performed.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Decisions made by the courts, contracts handed out by the government, legislation made by Congress, should not be influenced by any individual's religion (Christian, Muslim, Hindu, etc.) or secular cult-like ideology like climate change or DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion.)
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
No private business should be forced into providing a service that is against their religion or moral beliefs. A business that serves bar-b-que should not be compelled by law to stop serving this item on their menu simply because a certain segment of customers (based on their religious or moral beliefs) demand that the business do so.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
What I disagree with is mandating people to take a vaccine that has not been through rigorous testing (whereby side effects are known) such as the COVID vaccine. Organizations can create policies that allow for exceptions.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B - Yes, both government healthcare and private healthcare options should be available to all citizens. I believe in adequate funding for mental health including suicide prevention and drug abuse programs. We have a huge drug problem in District 14 and across our nation and if we choose C, whereby we de-fund taxpayer-funded programs from healthcare, then we lose a lot of young lives.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
C - The USA has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on huge domestic issues such as our own border crisis. If there is imminent danger that is posed by another country, (ex: North Korea) then we absolutely need to pay attention to these threats and successfully mitigate these threats (as we should have done when the Russia/Ukraine problem erupted two years ago) in order to maintain our position on the global stage.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
China may have built up a large arsenal of military equipment, but the Chinese military is largely untested and unproven as far as war strategy and fighting capability goes. They have yet to advance across the LOC in India approx. 60 years after the first Indo-China war. USA - work closely with partners in the quad: India, Japan, Australia - to contain the South China sea, Malacca Straits-Straits of Hormuz. We must OWN the shipping lanes. -Continue our hypervigilance - media and marketplace.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
YES. Foster a relationship with a country that has a strong military in the region; America has deep Judeo-Christian roots. Israel is our strongest ally in a very chaotic middle east. Israel, Saudi and the UAE now comprise the Abraham accord countries. We need them just as much as they need us. We keep Israel strong; Israel in turn "protects" Saudi and UAE against the mad ayatollahs of Iran. This prevents disruption of our import of oil supplies from Saudi and the UAE.
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
-Veterans Affairs centers are not resourced adequately by our government -Young people are being advised by their military parents and/or families to have careers outside of the military -The physical and mental fitness of our young who want to enter into the military is often not up to standard, pushing them onto different career paths -Military personnel need better pay for the jobs that we are asking them to do -Patriotism in not inculcated in our children as it was a few decades ago.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
YES the U.S. should do much more to physically secure the Southern border. This crisis is affecting our citizens in a huge way. All the programs that are federal and state tax funded such as healthcare, schools and housing are being impacted by the crisis. We must secure our border; we are a sovereign nation only if we have a secure border.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
On 9/11 and on the day of the Boston marathon bombing, we Americans understood how important it is to screen people who are streaming into our country from foreign nations. We need to bring in talent and resources - those who can contribute to our economy and to our culture in a positive way. We also should have strict quotas for asylum seekers. Our country needs to add to its talent pool; sometimes this talent is homegrown and sometimes we need to allow people from foreign nations in.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
Each family should have the option to choose what kind of education benefits their child and family. The government should allow and support families that choose to educate their children through non-public school means.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Eliminate the U.S. Department of Education. Save the taxpayers some money. NC has a Department of Education headquartered in Raleigh; this agency serves as a go-to for our NC public and charter school system.
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
I am a conservative Christian and believe that marriage is God-ordained, between a man and a woman.
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
We don't allow our children to drink alcohol or smoke marijuana until they're 21... Every child has the right to live a life free from abuse and neglect, including life altering gender change surgeries.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Never.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian and aspire to live a life as written in the Bible. I am familiar with other religions and spiritual lifestyles such as Buddhism, as my parents were career Christian missionaries in India. This means that I was taught acceptance and love for all people, regardless of religion. I have a son who is being raised in the church, and I am also a regular church-goer. I believe that the church and temple is a way for people to come together in unity and love to provide charity and love to the outside world. Christian values go beyond the four walls of a human institution; I will always keep my faith at the forefront of my decision-making capabilities.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Photo Identification is ESSENTIAL for fair elections. I am a big believer in election integrity.
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Disagree
The electoral college is necessary for fair representation of states with smaller populations.
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
I Strongly Disagree with CRT and its derivatives like DEI and ESG. CRT is itself a fundamentally racist, extremely dangerous, and ultimately divisive ideology. I strongly believe its final goal is to divide America and bring about our nation's downfall. It is the age old system of "divide and conquer" with a modern social twist. CRT has deep roots in communism and I take it as a serious threat to the fabric of our nation.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
Biological males have NO place in women's sports or bathrooms. To force women to compete against biological men is misogyny. The same people who complain about misogyny are the same people who promote this garbage that it's ok for biological males after hormone treatment to compete against women. The proof that this is garbage is in the results - women just can't compete and win against these "modified" males.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Disagree
While I do agree that there is man-mad climate change, I STRONGLY DISAGREE that it is the cause of a global threat or that it requires urgent political action. Source: papers by Dr. Richard Lindzen (Prof. Emeritus MIT), Dr. William Happer (Princeton U.) and Bjorn Lomborg. The alarmism is mainly the result of the silencing of sound scientific minds and their research. There are trillions of energy-related dollars that are involved as we transition to "GREEN" sources of energy from fossil fuels.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear energy is the most reliable source of energy - however, most of our nuclear power plants in the U.S. (including NC) are second generation plants. We need new 4th generation plants which are safer and reduce nuclear waste to a bare minimum.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government is OF the people, BY the people, and FOR the people. It keeps our citizens safe from internal and external threats, it helps us to function efficiently and effectively in our everyday life and activities. Government organizes our lives and without a well-oiled machine, there is chaos. However, I am not in favor of big government. A non-interfering government that allows for capitalism without needless bureaucracy and the freedom to choose how we live our lives is necessary.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.
Disagree
No - the Supreme Court should NOT be reformed to include more seats.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
On the contrary - I believe police departments need MORE government funding. Community organizations do not replace police departments. We need to resource and outfit our police departments heavily in every corner of our nation. Community programs can work well in tandem with police departments and can help keep the community safe - HOWEVER, community programs do not have the trained personnel or infrastructure that is provided to our citizens by our police departments.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe strongly in protecting our rights to own guns for our personal and family's safety in the face of crime. That being said, I do not support sales of military grade weaponry to individuals - we don't need street gangs possessing RPG launchers that they can blast our homes with. Restrictions such as screenings and checks are important so that those who are not eligible to purchase/own a gun are not able to do so - e.g., criminals and mentally unstable persons.
