OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Intentional abortions should not be allowed. Unintentional abortions might happen very infrequently to save the life of a mother - that is unavoidable.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Funds collected by the government for education should follow the child through high school. The Unicameral determines the laws for Nebraska but I would support laws that provide funding or tax credits for students attending charter, private, or home schools in addition to the public school system. Conditions for receiving those funds should include freedom to teach what the parents see as appropriate for their children. Current law in Nebraska includes a formula for school districts to receive funds from the state. That formula is not working. School districts in Board District 7, which I would represent, receive a very small percentage of the state funds while a few districts in more populous areas receive a very high percentage of those funds in Nebraska. The formula needs changed! I am cautious of government funded Pre-K programs. What are the conditions tied to receiving those funds? It is not up to the government to pay for everyone to attend college.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

The Ten Commandments should not be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.

Strongly Disagree

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

Teachers and other employees should be free to share their faith with students and others as well when appropriate.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Agree

The best way to maintain true peace would be for everyone to know the peace that passes understanding that only comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

EDUCATION

Every state should mandate K-12 standardized tests and the use of teaching software which aligns with Common Core standards.

Strongly Disagree

Common Core teaches some things well but misses the mark on others. Mandating standardized tests based on Common Core standards for homeschoolers and charter or private schools teaching from a Christian perspective would result in a bias against those students. Ungodly philosophies such as Critical Race Theory and evolution are interjected into many Common Core subjects through current software materials.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

That statement pretty much says it all. To go along with that statement, parents need to actively participate locally for the concept of local control in education to work!

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

Parents need to know that they have a choice.

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

Slavery and racism are not the foundation of American history. The only time to teach students about these concepts is to show how they do not by any means present the full picture of how our country became a great nation. Mankind has had to deal with people mistreating others from all the way back to Genesis 3. Slavery is wrong and needs to be taught as wrong. But having read 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' recently, we can learn a better way from such books. (Don't vilify me until you actually read it.)

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

The founding fathers stated that very clearly.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Jesus Christ is the only Son of God who came to sacrifice Himself on the cross for my sin and the sins of all. God sent His Word (Jesus) to show us what He is like. He sent His written word (the Bible) so we would know how to live. He sent His Holy Spirit to live in us; to help us live with His power in us to change us. Only the Holy Spirit can change hearts, including mine. My general philosophy - I am described in the Bible as being a slave to sin; as being held captive by the lies of the evil one. Since I have found a relationship with Christ I have been freed from the sins in my life that the Holy Spirit has shown me. Thankfully He has not shown them to me all at once but slowly and continually, so there are still parts of me being held captive by lies today. So if I look at others who may or may not know Jesus as their Savior; who are being held captive by numerous lies, I can relate with a fellow captive. I think of us being in the same prisoner of war camp, held captive by the lies of the evil one. So why would I think it a good thing to chastise, berate, or belittle a fellow captive? That makes no sense. I want to treat everyone with respect and grace. But to truly love someone means that I try to help them see not only grace but the truth as well. People who love me let me know when there is spinach in my front teeth. They provide me with the truth even when it might be inconvenient or embarrassing. But they do it lovingly and appropriately. I seek to treat those who disagree with me with that same kind of love; the perfect mix of truth and grace that we can only know when the Holy Spirit is working through us. My calling to Intentional Interim ministry was to come alongside churches that were struggling, help them see where they are and some of the reasons they got there, and then lead them to a vision from Christ that they could follow into future ministry in the local community/area. I "ran into burning buildings" with the peace of Christ to work through things. In Nebraska, the current State Board and Department of Education could be described as a "burning building". There is a need for change. I value working with people and hope to bring a level head and sound truth to the situation.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

I am an economic conservative. I am a listening conservative, but my foundations will stay firmly grounded in God's word.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

The existence of Faith Christian School in Kearney. Kearney Hub web article on Faith Christian School, Saturday, February 26, 2022. Former sermons on Westmark Evangelical Free Church Facebook page (2019-2020).

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?

First, the Bible, In His Steps by Charles Shelden, Victory Over the Darkness by Neil Anderson, This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti, Making Peace by Jim Van Yperen, and Who Stole My Church? by Gordon MacDonald.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

One of my top Strength finders gifts is "self assurance" which will help me to calmly stand firm through difficult times and differing opinions. My "learner" strength will help me hear and process what is going on. My "belief" strength will hold me to my Biblical foundation. My "relator" strength will help me in the relationship portion of the task. And my "achiever" strength will help me as a self-starter to get things done. I would like to personally get to know many in the Department of Education and since the Nebraska Constitution indicates that the State Board of Education "shall appoint all employees of the State Department of Education on the recommendation of the Commissioner of Education", I think it is about time that the Board did just that; appointed all the employees. I plan to be a part of that process should I be elected to the Board. (Article VII-4) In the end, I will work for common sense education for the children of Nebraska to help them come through their education prepared to be better citizens.

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Agree

I know there are typically conceal carry guns at my church that I have never seen while attending. I have not seen any issues as there have been children around at nearly every function of the church. Trained individuals with guns may have a place in schools. When I attended my first three years of high school at Thornton Township HS, Harvey, IL, there were 6 police on duty in the school every day. I went to one after being mugged in the locker room one day in 1970.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Do you support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school?

Health matters should be determined by the parents. So, no mandates.

I support mask mandates.
