QUESTIONNAIRE*
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Agree
I believe human life has inherent value and deserves legal protection. As a father and small-business owner who has helped families for decades, I approach this issue with respect for both the sanctity of life and the difficult realities many face. I will carry these convictions into Congress as the Trojan Horse for Common Sense.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Agree
Human embryos represent the earliest stage of life and should be treated with care and respect. I support ethical approaches to IVF and artificial reproduction that minimize unnecessary destruction of embryos.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
In the first trimester, the decision should be left to the woman and her doctor, respecting personal privacy and freedom. After the first trimester, elective abortions should be limited except in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life or physical health is at serious risk. To prevent abortions, I strongly support free family planning, sex education for younger adults, and free or low-cost birth control. Reducing unintended pregnancies respects both liberty and the value of life.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Disagree
I oppose using taxpayer dollars to directly fund abortion procedures. Public funds should support women’s preventive health services, cancer screenings, family planning, and birth control programs that help prevent unintended pregnancies. Working families in the 51st District should not be forced to subsidize elective abortions. We can protect women’s health and reduce abortion rates without crossing that line.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Disagree
I do not support full enforcement of the Comstock Act. While I favor strict limits on late-term abortions and oppose taxpayer funding for abortions, using a law to broadly ban interstate shipment of abortion pills raises concerns about government overreach. Instead, I support practical solutions: robust free family planning, sex education, and free birth control to reduce unintended pregnancies. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will push policies that respect privacy and life.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are the foundation of opportunity and prosperity. As a small-business owner who has run Caplan Financial for nearly 40 years, I have seen firsthand how government over-regulation and excessive taxation stifle hard-working families and entrepreneurs. I will fight in Congress to protect economic freedom while ensuring fair rules that allow working people in the 51st District to get ahead.
People who can afford to pay more taxes should do so in order to provide relief for working families.
Disagree
I disagree. Raising taxes on higher earners is not the best way to help working families. True relief comes from cutting wasteful spending, reducing regulations that drive up costs (like utility rate hikes and mileage taxes), and growing the economy so everyone benefits. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will prioritize lowering the cost of living for teachers, nurses, and small-business owners rather than simply shifting the tax burden.
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Strongly Agree
The national debt is unsustainable and threatens future generations. I strongly support cutting wasteful government spending to bring down the debt. As a fiscal conservative running as a Democrat, I will work from inside the party to demand accountability, eliminate duplicative programs, and focus taxpayer dollars on what actually matters — affordable living costs, public safety, and strong families in the 51st District.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
Audit and sunset ineffective social programs that waste billions with overlapping missions and poor results for working families. Streamline federal bureaucracy and cut redundant regulations that drive up costs and burden small businesses. End corporate welfare, subsidies, and earmarks that benefit special interests instead of serving the public. Modernize and means-test entitlement programs to ensure long-term solvency without burdening younger working families with higher taxes or debt.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Individuals and business owners have the fundamental right to operate according to their deeply held moral and religious beliefs. Government should not force people to violate their conscience. As a small-business owner and father, I believe true tolerance means respecting religious liberty and personal convictions, not compelling participation in actions that conflict with them. This is part of protecting families and freedom in the 51st District.
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
To me, this means the government should not establish an official religion or interfere with the free exercise of faith. It protects religious liberty while preventing government from silencing people of faith or erasing faith from the public square. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will defend the First Amendment by keeping government neutral — never favoring one religion, but also never hostile to religious belief or traditional values held by working families in the 51st District.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
I support option B. We should keep a mix of private insurance and targeted public programs like Medicaid and Medicare for those who need them. I oppose “Medicare for All” or any government takeover that eliminates private options and raises taxes dramatically. As a small-business owner, I believe the focus should be on lowering healthcare costs through competition and efficiency rather than expanding government control.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
The government should not maintain a centralized database tracking citizens’ private medical conditions. This raises serious privacy concerns and risks government overreach into personal health decisions. Medical information should remain between patients and their doctors. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will protect individual privacy and oppose policies that treat Americans like data points for bureaucratic cost analysis rather than people deserving dignity and freedom.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
I choose option C. America must prioritize our own sovereignty, border security, and economic strength before engaging in endless foreign interventions. We should only commit resources when there is a clear and imminent threat to the United States or our vital interests. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will fight to end nation-building adventures and refocus our foreign policy on protecting American families and workers in the 51st District.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
The Chinese Communist Party represents one of the greatest long-term threats to America’s security and prosperity. We must take decisive action to decouple from strategic dependence on China, protect our intellectual property, strengthen our military and cyber defenses, and bring critical supply chains back home. America must compete aggressively while putting our own workers and national security first.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes, the United States’ relationship with Israel is very important. Israel is our strongest democratic ally in the Middle East, sharing intelligence, technology, and values that advance regional stability and counter terrorism. Supporting Israel strengthens American security interests and counters threats from Iran and radical Islamist groups. A strong U.S.-Israel partnership benefits both nations and promotes peace through strength.
Islamic terrorism is a threat to the United States' national security.
Strongly Agree
Islamic terrorism remains a serious threat to our national security. We must maintain strong counter-terrorism policies, secure our borders, and avoid the failed “woke” approaches that downplay the ideology behind these attacks. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will support robust intelligence, law enforcement, and military capabilities to keep Americans safe from radical Islamist extremism.
IMMIGRATION
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Legal immigration should be encouraged, but it must be controlled and based on the rule of law. Priority should go to skilled workers who pass rigorous background checks, are willing to assimilate, and enter legally through ports of entry. We must dramatically reduce illegal immigration and chain migration while protecting wages and resources for American citizens and legal residents. A secure border is pro-legal immigrant and pro-citizen. I will put American workers first.
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
Sanctuary cities undermine the rule of law and endanger public safety by shielding people who are here illegally from federal enforcement. Local governments should not nullify federal law. Resources in our hospitals, schools, and services should prioritize American citizens and legal residents. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will oppose sanctuary policies and fight for secure borders that protect our communities.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Agree
The federal Department of Education has become overly bureaucratic and has pushed too much ideology into our schools while student performance has stagnated. I support returning control of education to states and local communities, where parents and teachers have the most direct influence. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will fight for parental transparency and accountability, so that decisions about our children’s education are made closer to home — not by Washington bureaucrats.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Strongly Agree
Foreign governments, especially adversarial nations like China, should be strictly prohibited from funding or influencing American schools and universities. This includes Confucius Institutes and other programs that undermine U.S. sovereignty and push foreign propaganda. American education must serve American students and values, not foreign interests. Protecting our classrooms from outside interference is essential for national security and preserving American culture.
VALUES
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Agree
Children are not capable of making irreversible decisions about their bodies or identity. Attempts to physically or socially transition minors — including puberty blockers, hormones, or surgeries — can cause lifelong harm. Parents and medical professionals have a duty to protect children, not rush them into experimental treatments. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will defend parental rights and protect minors from irreversible decisions they cannot fully understand.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Agree
I believe marriage is fundamentally the union of one man and one woman. While government can recognize civil unions or domestic partnerships for legal purposes, it does not have the authority to redefine the traditional meaning of marriage that has existed for centuries. I respect religious liberty and the right of churches and individuals to hold their own beliefs about marriage without government coercion.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My spiritual beliefs are rooted in the Judeo-Christian values upon which this nation was founded — faith, family, personal responsibility, and the inherent dignity of every human life. I believe in treating others with compassion and respect, while standing firm on moral principles that protect children, strengthen families, and promote the common good. As a father and small-business owner, these values guide me to put working families first and to fight for common sense in Washington as the Trojan Horse for Common Sense.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Secure elections require basic safeguards like photo identification. Requiring voters to show ID is a reasonable, common-sense measure used in most democracies around the world to prevent fraud and build public confidence in our elections. It does not suppress votes — it protects them. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will support election integrity laws that ensure only eligible American citizens can vote, while making it easy and accessible for every legal voter to participate.
EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
Biological males should not compete in women’s sports or occupy women’s private spaces such as bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, shelters, or prisons. This is about basic fairness, safety, and protecting the hard-won opportunities for girls and women. Biology is not bigotry. As a father and your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will fight to preserve women’s sports and protected spaces for biological females.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear energy is the most reliable source for growing electricity demand. It delivers constant, high-capacity baseload power with over 90% reliability and runs 24/7. Nuclear provides affordable, clean electricity with minimal subsidies.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
NO
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
NO
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
Between Moderate and Lean Conservative. I am fiscally responsible, strongly support public safety, parental rights, fair women’s sports, secure borders, and reliable affordable energy. While I am running as a Democrat, I reject the far-left progressive agenda on spending, crime, gender ideology in schools, and open borders. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will bring practical, working-class values back into the Democratic Party and fight for the 80% issues that actually matter.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
Government has a clear responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation online. We must do more to hold big tech companies accountable, restrict access to harmful content, and stop predators from targeting minors on social media. Parents deserve tools and transparency to safeguard their kids. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense and a father, I will fight for strong protections that put child safety first without unnecessary government overreach into private family decisions.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I support the Second Amendment and the right of law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms for self-defense, hunting, and sport. Background checks on initial purchases are reasonable, but further restrictions such as assault weapon bans, magazine limits, or red-flag laws often infringe on the rights of responsible gun owners while doing little to stop criminals. As your Trojan Horse for Common Sense, I will defend the right to bear arms while focusing on solutions that actually reduce crime.
