QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Neutral
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
First Trimester Only, and no public money(local, state, federal) of any kind should ever be used to support an abortion.
ECONOMY
Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.
Strongly Disagree
'Redistribution of income' is another term for "socialism," which seeks to provide equal "outcomes" among people. But we are not a nation of "equity", we are a nation of "equality of opportunity." Efforts should be applied 'at the beginning' of one's life if you want to improve outcomes. School choice, advocating for Fiscal Literacy (my proposal for all public schools), are just a couple of examples to improve better outcomes. Family & Education play critical roles in one's success.
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Strongly Agree
I am at heart a Fiscal, Constitutional Conservative. The level of frivolous spending by today's Congress is unacceptable. We need a government that is responsible to how "the people's money" is being spent. Additionally, the crazy spending and money printing by the FED is largely to blame for the 40-year inflation we are all experiencing today.
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Make the 2017 Tax Cuts for Individuals & Businesses permanent. These Cuts were enormously helpful to everyday hardworking Americans, with middle-income & lower-income folks seeing the largest wage gains. Unemployment levels fell to 50-year lows (with low inflation), and poverty levels were at multi-decade lows, as well. The Economy of this country was doing incredibly well, only to be derailed by the Pandemic. In closing , I will say that less attention in general should be made about the tax code.. MORE attention needs to be applied to our Federal Spending. That is the reason why we are more than $30 Trillion in debt.. It's Not because we don't tax people enough.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
Whether Religious Liberty is at risk or not is immaterial. The Founders of this Great Country made clear their belief in Freedom of Religion, and it should be protected as such.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
Nowhere in the Constitution does it say there should be a separation of Church and State. The Founding Fathers of this Country made it clear that our rights are derived from God, not by any Government. Why shouldn't our schools teach the critical role that God played in the development of our society, and Democracy. Let's teach our kids about History, not about Critical Race Theory and other "pet projects" from the Progressive Left. Teach Facts, not ideology.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Under NO Circumstance should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
My views most closely align with B) The U.S. should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. There are several key factors involved in the decision-making. Does the invading nation to some other foreign country pose a National Security threat to the U.S., or to our Economy ? (Like Gulf War I, Kuwait-Iraq). Does the invading nation pose a threat to the Global Economy ? As an example, while the war in Ukraine doesn't pose an immediate security threat, it does hold the potential to completely destabilize Europe and lead to a global conflict , with Putin in power of Russia. We should NOT be sending troops, but we should be doing more to support Ukraine w/ military hardware, and cut off Russia's oil supplies NOW (not June 24th as currently agreed to by the U.S). We should be doing more to help Ukraine win the War. The danger Taiwan is presented with from China is an even greater threat to the Global Economy. More than 50% of the world's advanced semiconductor chips come from Taiwan. They are a key hub of Economic Activity in the Global Economy. If Taiwan is invaded, it will wreak havoc on the Global Economy immediately. There should be no hesitation on the part of the U.S. to immediately come to the defense of Taiwan, if they come under attack.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Unquestionably, China poses serious threats on all fronts mentioned above. Economically, China never should have been admitted into the World Trade Organization (WTO), as they do not follow a rules-based order like other member countries. They only make decisions that are "convenient for them," not for free trade. (the whole premise of the WTO). Theft of Intellectual Property, Forced Technology Transfers, and cyber hacking are all methods they use to cheat and try and gain an upper-hand..
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
The U.S. "Should Have" kept a small, contingent, force of 1,500 troops in Afghanistan. We have significantly higher numbers of troops in S. Korea, Japan, and Germany, to this day, after those respective wars to help keep the peace. So, why wasn't a small number of troops kept in Afghanistan ? Job number 1 of the U.S. government is to protect the people. It's hard to argue that we are safer today with No troop presence in Afghanistan. Troop presence would have been the best tool to help keep the peace for the U.S.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
The U.S. still has a "legal immigration system." We are the most welcoming country on earth. At a minimum, Individuals should pass background checks, and possess job skills that will help our Economy. WE should be able to choose who comes to our country, on our terms.
VALUES
Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Our rights are derived from God, not through any Government. The more power we give government, the less power we as individual possess. (And Vice-versa). Faith, Family, and Education play critical roles in who become as individuals...
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
We as a nation must uphold voter integrity, and as such, the concerns of the prior election must be addressed. There are two items we know to be true. This nation never had such an overwhelming majority of its votes cast by mail as in 2020, and vote by mail is more susceptible to fraudulent behavior. The solution to the problem is to make sure the people can trust the election process. We meet that goal by: (1) Ending the mass mail-in voting process that took place in the prior election (due in no small part to the pandemic and social distancing requirements). Mass Mail-in voting invites problems for a variety of reasons, including; (a) nothing is observable except the counting of votes, (b) you don’t know who’s voting, and (c) you can’t see how the ballots are collected, transported, and stored. This invites potential fraud on too many levels. 2. Encourage/mandate all "able-bodied" voters to go to the ballot booth, like it used to be . Making it "easier" to vote unfortunately comes with side effects that affect election integrity (see above again). 3. Have a "National Holiday" on election day, so people can go to the voting booth at their leisure.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I do not feel racism is a threat to domestic security. While we all can acknowledge that there will always be racist people, I do not believe we as a whole, collective group are a racist society. Therefore, it is not a domestic security threat. Rather, we as a people are not a collection of “groupings of races & ethnicities.” We as a people are each “individuals,” each with unique aspirations that together form a community. Each and every day we see fine examples of individuals of different races getting along with each other.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
We should be encouraging a "Security First" Energy Policy, not a "Climate First" Energy Policy. What is taking place with Putin's War in Europe should drive this point home clearly.
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A) Stricter environmental laws and regulation cost too many jobs and hurt the economy.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
My website is available for all to read ; spinneyforcongress.com
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
1. I would help put a freeze on frivolous spending as a member of Congress. 2. I would support legislation that extends the 2017 Tax Cuts for Individuals and Businesses. These Cuts were enormously helpful to everyday hardworking Americans, with middle-income & lower-income folks seeing the largest wage gains. 3. Include a “Personal Finance” course in the High School Curriculum, for ALL Seniors in the Public School System in the U.S. Most of us have never received any formal education in financial literacy. Basic concepts such as “Saving & Investing”, retirement planning are never formally taught, and needed. Let’s help our young adults when they have time on their side.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Background Checks.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
