RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Precious human life should not be snuffed out and it should be so noted in our laws. Regardless of the 1973 overreach by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade which upended Indiana's protection of life by statute, we should be working to restore the protection of the unborn as the estimated casualties climb beyond 60 million nationwide. As Dr. Ron Paul, who delivered thousands of babies during his 40 year medical career has noted, with our technology available today the life of the pregnant mother is rarely in jeopardy.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
In Indiana, we should start by immediately repealing the largest tax increase in 2017- the gas tax. Some are satisfied only with a state-mandated $125 tax refund (and keeping the rate the same), but I believe we should work to roll back the rate so the rebate is not necessary. Plus, with taxpayer funds that far exceed expenses located in Indianapolis, the incentive to grow government is too great plus taxpayers deserve to keep their hard-earned money. Furthermore, we should be working to reduce property taxes and income taxes even further as the state sits now with at least $5 billion in its coffers. As someone who is often incensed by the sheer number of taxes we have to be responsible for especially when considering federal and local jurisdictions, I will work to reduce the excessive ways they are collected on all of our activity as taxpayers as well.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Even though we have more of a taxation problem since our revenues far exceed expenses, one of the best ways we can curtail spending in Indiana at the same time is to force government to slowly make itself more efficient with plans like the Congressman Mack Penny Plan. That plan being introduced in the state would cut 1% instead of continually growing government like the HB1001 bill did last year with the largest spending increase in Indiana history. Someone offering these amendments to the budget would be far better than the status quo where it is not just stagnation but inflating that routinely occurs at the state level leading us down the same road as the out of control federal government that sits now above $30 Trillion in debt and rising rapidly. Seeing that the state does not have a printing press at its disposal, these trends would not be sustainable.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
As a publicly-educated Hoosier myself who helped put himself through college, I do not believe this should be guaranteed by taxpayers. Having some skin in the game helps ensure motivations for furthering ones education are effective and efficient at the same time.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The right of people to have a conscience in how they perform their God-given talents and how they labor should be theirs to dispense as they see fit. When people are forced to violate those time-honored traditions for the sake of modern sensibilities imposed by a few, we lose our free and independent nature as Americans.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
There should be no circumstance under which churches are closed, especially not for months on end like was done during Covid-19 response. The unprecedented response in Indiana was an imposition we now know was fruitless, let alone it was without constitutional or legal merit. I was opposed to it from the very beginning in March 2020 and even lost friends for being willing to speak out against this behavior which seemed right by many at the time and it forms an additional block in the foundation of my interest in running for state representative this May.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
With the constant jockeying between hospitals, insurance companies, and government agencies constantly in the mix of healthcare, there is little cost savings that occurs in healthcare as it does in other industries such as the one I'm familiar with like technology. We need to roll back these efforts that drive up costs and reduce government when possible as rising costs on numerous fronts are significantly impacting Hoosier wallets even more. Private healthcare options and healthcare sharing ministries are better able, for example, than someone who is not connected to individuals making decisions as another cog in the wheel of bureaucracy. A more individualized, privatized system as opposed to our current one would be better able to focus on the individual patient and lessen the chance of these government programs going broke within the next decade as they are projected to at the federal level.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Mandating what people inject into their bodies should not be legal if for no other reason than because we know not fully how it will affect everyone, let alone for the incursion into someone's private medical health decision. These are decisions best left between someone and their physician, not a distant bureaucrat in Indianapolis or Washington, D.C.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
We know with the issues surrounding Afghanistan that weakness in foreign policy only begets more violence from bad actors who utilize religious zealotry to cause destruction and take innocent lives. Although I am running for a state office, these are important issues when it comes to immigration and naturalization issues and for whether there are incompatibilities to our system with the mass importation of refugees.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
I supported President Trump moving the capitol to Jerusalem for the same reason I believe they have sovereignty over the lands as prescribed in 1948 under their charter and should be able to make administrative decisions for the welfare of their citizens.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Those who are willing to be assimilated and understand our institutions and heritage and have a harmonious presence with our present population, as well as those who provide skilled labor should be eligible for immigration as current law provides. Although these are federal issues and immigration into the state is not in play here, these are important considerations in light of potential abuse thru chain migration, birthright citizenship, and related concerns.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Agree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe in the saving grace of Jesus Christ as a Christian.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
We need to implement a recent proposal presented in the Indiana General Assembly to roll back to paper ballots, not just voting machine with a paper trail. Although some believe this is an acceptable way toward election integrity, this simply allows for another step in which confusion can occur to the voter, whereas paper ballots are much more difficult to be tampered with. As a longtime polling inspector at numerous polling locations with paper ballots in the past, this is a much more secure process for voters and I will be working toward this solution for the best interest of voters to feel confident in the system so we do not run the risk of a repeat of what happened in 2020.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Since we are all part of the human race, racism is a form of self-hate that should certainly not be encouraged nor should it be a common refrain when issues revolve around disagreements that come from our differences. Highlighting these differences only serve to stir the division instead of allowing cooler heads to prevail to tackle important issues that can be resolved with implementing the equality of opportunity and not equality of condition, as Booker T. Washington and other American leaders talked about.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
Stricter environmental laws and regulations will only hurt our ability to compete with the massive economies on the other side of the globe who currently give little concern to these considerations. Good stewardship of the planet needs to be separated from environmental extremism and platitudes that often only serves self-interest, not the good of our shared environment. So much that is beneficial for the environment already comes out of private efforts such as the tools being developed to cleanup waste in the oceans. Interestingly, most of this refuse does not come from the United States so publicly-funded efforts will not cover these issues anyway.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Agree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To provide a means to protect the rights of the citizenry and a mechanism to administer justice for violations of those rights. Madison stated that "if men were angels, no government would be necessary" and as such there must be efforts to respond to those who violate the lives, liberties, and properties of others.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Numerous reports from 2016 provide evidence of my positions including this article citing support from constitutionally-minded Sheriff Brad Rogers at the time endorsing my run for commissioner seen here: https://www.courierpress.com/story/news/2016/10/23/webb-far-flung-endorsement-commissioners-race/92533300/
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I am the homegrown Hoosier candidate running for District 78 and I would appreciate voters' support in the primary on May 3.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Neutral
Unfortunately due to the way this question is worded more needs to be assessed regarding personal vs. professional immunity considering the traditional way some officers are bonded and insured and whether departmental policy is flawed needs to be taken into consideration, so it requires a case-by-case analysis without better information. Of course, there should be a higher standard expectation applied to officers of the law that have the license to legally use force.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Public safety is actually enhanced by the proliferation and not the eradication of weapons, as Dr. John Lott points out in his studies and books. This is especially the case in the hands of a predominantly hard-working, taxpaying citizenry who want to uphold the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of themselves and the state, as prescribed by the Indiana Constitution's Article 1 Section 32.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
If we recognized that guns are tools and serve multiple purposes, then should manufacturers of chairs be sued if someone misuses those tools as well? This unfortunately would lead to a runaway slippery slope to make manufacturers responsible for the actions of people who misuse products in a very problematic way.
