ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
It depends on whether we can ever agree to a comprehensive fiscal policy which balances the budget, places a solid spending cap in the constitution and then - along with prudent spending reductions - taxes can be included in the discussion.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
It worked in the military - apply a percentage reduction per agency and let them (they should be our experts) figure out how to best reduce costs and which programs are absolutely essential. Politicians making cuts is - well - political. Reductions should be made by those on the front lines.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
After the covid debacle I'm leaning towards none. Polio for example made sense. Covid doesn't. Why must we be painted into a corner on a yes or no - shouldn't we apply critical thinking skills to each situation?

NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Fight where and when we need to - but military force is a last resort not a first option. We have many other alphabet soup agencies much better suited to finding and eliminating threats especially if non-state actors.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I introduced SB39 (Election Integrity) in the Alaska senate - I am the only republican who introduced and was able to move significant legislation although it was stopped at the end of the session by moderate republicans. I've been working on election reform for 4 years in Alaska. There is much work to do there and it will remain a focus of mine until I'm successful or no longer serve in the legislature.

ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Provide protection for the nation and people (invasion, crime). Provide for collective issues difficult for individuals - building highways, airports, etc. IF needed. By and large I think government should be as small and unobtrusive as possible so people can be free to follow their own path.

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
None. It's not about the guns - it's about the cultural change we're seeing. I grew up when guys would have rifles and shotguns in the back window of their pickup trucks at schools - we NEVER had shootings. I'm not going to limit a citizens right to bear arms to protect themselves and that which they hold dear because of criminal misuse of firearms.
