QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
Abortion is a basic part of health care, and organizations like Planned Parenthood offer many other vital health services in addition to abortion access; reproductive care, contraception, and basic hygiene are critical to the health of woman all over the country, and we should be increasing their funding!
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
There are some cases where assisted suicide is the most humane option, and with proper counseling and care, we should allow people the freedom to choose when their suffering has reached a point where euthanasia is preferable.
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Any.
ECONOMY
Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.
Strongly Agree
We need a Wealth Tax to fix our broken economy that rewards billionaires with lower tax rates than their secretaries, and curb the outsized influence of unfathomable wealth on our politics, our culture, and our economy. Income taxes hit the 10% hard, but the top 1/10th of 1% are hardly taxed at all, because they don't earn income; they hoard wealth for generations.
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Strongly Disagree
Donald Trump spent more than any president in history, and at this point I see any concern over the national debt and fiscal responsibility as an excuse to cut programs you don't like. We should be spending more on regular people, and less on war machines.
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
We need to get rid of deductions and carried interest exemptions that allow billionaires to avoid tax. We need to add a Wealth Tax, and lessen the income tax burden on regular people like you and me.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Disagree
Religion is important to a lot of people and practicing religion should never be infringed upon. But using it as a shield to avoid taxes, laws, or health programs, or to impose it on other people working for you is completely unacceptable. When conservatives talk about "religious liberty", that's often what they're really talking about.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
Yes, discrimination on any grounds is bad. If you're open to the public, be open to the public and treat everyone equally. If you can't do that, you have no business being in business.
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
None. This country was founded on a separation of church and state and is in no way established to favor any one religion over another.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
All circumstances. Vaccines save lives, and it is incumbent upon the citizens of a healthy and modern state to be vaccinated in order to protect those who for reasons of age or immune complications are more vulnerable than themselves.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
(A). Medicare for ALL. The only way to fix healthcare is to get private insurance completely out of the equation. This would eliminate 50% of the overhead, and bring us up to the standards of every other developed nation. It is literally the least we can do for our people.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
(C) There are cases where war is the final option, as I would say was the case in World War II. But we have to stop expanding our military spending, and overextending our reach to countries that never asked for and do not want our help. The last few decades of military adventurism have made a lot of defense contractors and US politicians very wealthy, at the expense of ordinary citizens, both here and certainly abroad.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Agree
Yes, it is time to end the apartheid state model, recognize the state of Palestine with full rights of return for Palestinians across the globe, and full citizenship and protections for every citizen of Israel regardless of their background. This is the best thing we can do for Palestine AND for Israel.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
There are valid and pressing concerns about military, cyber security, and intellectual property in relation to the People's Republic of China. I do not see them as our enemies, and I regard the people of that nation as our friends, but we cannot turn a blind eye to the actions of their leaders and their government. I believe in diplomacy and de-escalation whenever possible, and we should proceed with tact and lead by example, for the benefit of both our nations.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
We can best stem the threat of terrorism in any nation by providing direct aid, which takes away the animosity and desperation which wars and "police actions" have build up over generations of violence and deprivation. No person is born a terrorist; they are forged in blood and suffering. Until we break that cycle, we are only growing the forces of the next generation. We can do a lot more with food and teachers and engineers than bombs and soldiers and spies.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Disagree
The best way to stop illegal immigration is to simply make it legal. Document those who wish to come here, and let them come. And moreover, we need to provide a swift path to citizenship for those who have already come here. People are the lifeblood of a nation, and more people means more jobs, more new businesses, more workers and more wealth for everyone.
State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Disagree
The cities have a point. Time to fix the federal laws. That's why I'm running for Congress.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Anyone, upon completion of an application and a suitable background check. The problem with "undocumented" immigrants is the documents, not the people.
VALUES
Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Agree
It's no one's business whom someone else is attracted to, or how they want to live their lives. We are a nation proud of our freedoms. Let's act like it.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
If you believe that, you probably don't understand what Critical Race Theory is.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Under Article VI of the US Constitution "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States". I believe in the Constitution of the United States of America.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
Identification seems reasonable, and the important thing is to ensure that all citizens eligible to vote have access to identification. But in-person voting is quickly becoming a thing of the past, so spot-checks are moot in many jurisdictions. It's important to note that Mail In ballots are now standard in my home state of California, as in many states. A signature verification seems to be enough there.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Mail in ballots should be standard, to allow all citizens to vote at their leisure, without concern over taking time off to vote on any particular day, at any particular location.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Agree
Yes, reparations are in order for both descendants of former slaves, and for displaced indigenous peoples. I believe they should be on the order of the value of a small plot of farmland, and remitted through annual payments spread out over a number of years, for a total cost of about $1 Trillion dollars if we move on this issue today. This is a mere 20% of what we already spent on one year of pandemic aide to big businesses.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes, prejudice and bigotry of any kind threatens to tear us apart, when we should be one nation, working together for the benefit and the actualization of all people.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Disagree
Fracking has disastrous environmental consequences, from contaminating ground water to even triggering earthquakes as the ground shifts with fossil fuel extraction. It's time to move to a 100% wind and solar energy economy, assisted by battery storage and a robust electrical transmission grid. A Green New Deal is a key point of my policy platform to see this accomplished.
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
(B) Environmental laws create jobs in new green energy businesses, while preserving and restoring our natural environment for future generations to enjoy.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Liberal
I would describe myself as a democratic socialist.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Look me up on https://twitter.com/11thJeff
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I am fighting for Medicare for All, affordable public housing, higher wages for all Americans, investment in clean infrastructure through a Green New Deal, Wealth Taxes, and childcare and paid family leave for all Americans. It's time for a New Deal that centers regular people and working families instead of millionaires and billionaires. I don't take any big money contributions or PAC money, and I'm running a grassroots campaign that depends on organic word-of-mouth. I'm listening to everybody, and I don't owe favors to any one interest group. I am here to represent you.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Disagree
Police officers are regular people, and should be subject to all the same laws as any other citizen.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Agree
It's not fair to anyone to ask police to respond to mental health and social issues with the same tools and force that they bring to violent crimes. We need new programs and new departments to deal compassionately with these issues without involving police, so that our officers of the law can focus on apprehending criminals and gathering evidence to bring them to justice.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Guns should be registered and I would like to see a program of insurance. If you hit someone with a car, you are criminally liable, and your insurance is financially liable. Why should owning another potentially dangerous device be any different?
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Neutral
People who use guns are still ultimately at fault when they are misused. So unless manufacturers are committing malfeasance by targeting irresponsible people, falsely advertising, or producing a defective product, it's hard to make the case that they should be liable for the way a person uses that product. This is why personal firearm liability insurance is a good policy to explore.
